I think the reason games on console don’t always have co-op splitscreen is a framerate issue; basically displaying the game 2x with the same machine. I know for sure this is why some games don’t have co-op splitscreen on 360 and I’ve definitely experienced more lag especially framerate lag when playing co-op online/offline. Also I’ve read keeping the players together if they lose their connection or host drops is difficult.
Brink needs Splitscreen
I think LAN play is a much more realistic way to go, I don’t think it would be any real challenge to get this going. split screen would be cool but on the consoles the blur is already annoying can you imagine what playing two little screens with the graphics burdened would be like?
I doubt I would get any use out of a non-internet based split-screen feature in the game, but if they copy the aspect of black ops/halo/gears I most enjoyed, which is the ability to play online matches with a friend in split-screen, that would be fun. Nothing like combining the most popular and fun mode (online play) with being able to play the game with a real friend as well.
Not saying I expect them to make this at any point, as it would be costly and there’s a good list of things that need patches or changes in the game already that should come first. The fact that Black Ops and other games with similar features like Halo allow you to play online with another real player joining in is the reason that when my friends come over and want to game, they choose Black Ops like 70-80% of the time.
Exactly. Implementing splitscreen is a lot more involved than just flipping a switch.
(now the real slick sh!t is the two-players-full-screen-on-one-display-no-split that Sony is putting together with their new 3dTV bundle)
