Split screen is a thing of the past imo… but at the same time having friends over and playing xbox is a really good time…

For PC it’s different. On the PC there is a lot more hardcore games that require a lot of attention and reflexes. On consoles it’s less about the hardcore gaming and more about hanging out with friends, achievements/trophies, and fragging random people; all of which are more fun when playing with friends, and if your having more fun while seeing it for the first time at a friends house you’re more likely to buy the game, thereby increasing sales.
As to the game breaker/maker part, The game is obviously meant to be played coop/MP (classes). If you don’t have your console hook up to the internet then there is no point to buying the game because you only get half or less of the game that you would get if the console was hooked up. With coop much more of the game is usable.
You’ll have to forgive me, I just can’t get my head around a complex shooter on a console
What was the last one you played…?
And to be perfectly honest I’m not a fan of FPS on PC’s I’ve got ET:QW on PC and it’s meh. Part of this is that my graphics card can barely support the game and it looks like a “bleh” PS1 game but at the same time I can’t get over using a mouse and key board. Yes the aiming is more precise but when circle strafing the jerk produced while lifting your mouse and reseting it to the default poistion is a pain in the ass. Because of this I even prefer using a shitty ass built in lap top mouse apposed to a M+KB. It’s all about preference. Also like the fellow above stated the social aspect is much more drawn on consoles out making it a more enjoyable experience in my opinion, but at the same time I have a few friends who consider them selves “hardcore”…lol.
PS: I think the idea of a “hard core” gamer is a joke. Obviously you have to sperate markets one being the casual the other being what I refer to as a “true” gamer…but using the term hard core is completley unjustafiable, only thing that’s hard core’s this. This goes double for those MLG guys, gaming’s a pass time not a sport!
Why do I seem to write such long posts on this forum…and they lack a considerable amount of memes. But you lot don’t seem like the type who would enjoy meme’s with that being said. And I seem to come off as British…
So really you could also say the same about a PS3 game if you chose to play it on a PS1? It’s hardly the game’s fault that you won’t spend $100 of a gfx card to run the game adequately.
A mouse with adequate sensitivity doesn’t need to be lifted.
Really if those two things are all that are holding you back from PC gaming I’d suggest a new mouse and gfx card gets put on your christmas list.
Actually it’s the part you emitted in your quote that’s holding me back.

All my friends play on live. And without them it just isn’t half as much fun. I’m sure the PC community is better overall when it comes to playing with strangers (it’s not hard to beat the 12 year olds and G-stars on live) but that’s just not as much fun as playing with my friends. If I were to bring up half the things that are casual conversation for us I would get aptly muted
And in my opinion having a better time > slightly better graphics any day of the week.
Though at times I do wish I had a gaming rig for games such as Dragon Age and TF2…
Oh and did I mention I’m cheap like EXTREMLEY CHEAP.
I’m not a fan of aimbots (aim assist) nor of camp and snipe games, you should try W:ET as an online shooter, it’s free and older and less capable computers can run it easily. Play on servers that don’t have jaymod or no quarter (etpro is the best imo) and get a feel for what us PC gamers consider an excellent shooter. I’m far from a “hardcore” gamer but I am a hardcore computer user.
If you decide to play, please drop by one of my sites servers, tell them you’re new and the lads will be more than happy to answer questions and give you all the help you need
Ok it’s downloading, but am I wrong to assume the game play is nearly identical to that of ET:QW?
Sorry missed that. fair point although I’ll say it’s a little chicken & egg in logic. If your friends played on the PC you’d arguably have an equal or better experience because you have a lot more flexibility. Maybe you’ll make some friends here and give the PC version of Brink a whirl when it comes out.
still I understand, not everyone is going to game on the PC so (not being trollish here) you go to the lowest common denominator and that’s a console. I felt the same way when buying a PS3 over 360 knowing it meant I was ignoring most of my friends who had a 360.
Anyway OT.
Having fun is always the goal and I’m not against anything that lets people do that. Splitscreen and multiscreen is a good idea for local play and given the controller support on the PC it’d be nice that there option is there if they do it for the consoles.
Oh I agree with you on that one. 3rd party mods make me wish I was PC gamer. But at the same time, I’ve got console roots. I played Crash Bandicoot before I’d ever even heard of Mine Sweeper. Maybe if get money in the summer though I’ll build one of those budgit rigs that can apparently run Crysis for under 500. Until then I’ll stick to console and my 15 dollar DLC…
Oh and on a side note how much is a Vent?
gameplay is closer to RTCW than QW and you’ll need vers 2.60b to play on our servers
sort of, a game that makes you pay to host a server on your own comp doesn’t interest me, neither does the aim assist or nerfed mouse control, but I’ve never played it
Although I’m most likely going to purchase this game, I wish it would support split-screen considering none of my friends own the playstation 3 console. If cross-platform and split-screen are implemented I bet you 20 bucks I can convince my friends to buy this game.
Pffft, you should see my IRC logs.
And in my opinion having a better time > slightly better graphics any day of the week.
True, hence why I play on a PC with the graphics settings turned to DooM-quality at 120 fps instead of on a console with so much bloom and particle effects and film grain and whatever else is popular at the time chugging along with 30 fps.
Though at times I do wish I had a gaming rig for games such as Dragon Age and TF2…
TF2 is forgettable, Quake Live and Enemy Territory are where the real fun is found.
Oh and did I mention I’m cheap like EXTREMLEY CHEAP.
Yet you still pay for xbox live? Actually I couldn’t find information on how much it costs during my 30 seconds of looking so for all I know it’s free.
Oh and on a side note how much is a Vent?
The client is free. Cost of renting a server depends on who you rent from and they usually charge by how many people you want to allow on at a time. I just checked what price multiplay offer (they host in London and Amsterdam so not too useful for you in Canada, but I can’t think of any others off the top of my head and prices should be comparable to other providers) and it’s $7.43/month for a 20 slot ventrilo server.
Since you’ll probably want a dedicated server for you and your friends to play on if there are a lot of you you should factor that in too - I checked their price for a 15-slot CoD4 server and it’s $16.71/month.
Anyway this multiplay spambot is off to bed.
Even if there was cross platform support, it wouldn’t be ‘true’ cross platform. It would be riddled with ‘balancing’ issues, like auto aim for consoles, and dumbing down the PC controls.
I would love to see cross platform support, where it is just Pc vs consoles. No balancing issues, no handicapping, just skill vs skill.
