A new story entry has been added:

[drupal=871]Brink Nabs Golden Joystick Nomination[/drupal]

This year’s Golden Joystick awards are on the home stretch and we’re thrilled to see that Brink is among the finalists in the Best Shooter category. We’d like to extend a huge Thank You to everyone who took the time to vote for Brink - without you, this would not have been possible.
On a related note, now’s your very last chance to cast your vote in this year’s Golden Joysticks if you haven’t done so already. Voting is set to close late tomorrow, and there’s some great hardware and games up for grabs, so you might even walk away with some cool swag. The winners will be announced in a champagne-laden ceremony on 21 October.

voted for starcraft II

For Best Shooter?

(Humate) #4

Ultimate Game of the Year

None of the shooters warranted a vote.

Best Shooter?

How can a game, in which your aim has no influence on the bullets, be a best shooter?

Congrats on the nomination tho, but wth

Yeah all the shooters listed were pretty luke warm. Pretty weak year for shooters as far as these options.

Edited: to be nicer lol

Brink. Best shooter of 2011.

This year might be good with f2p games like Firefall and Tribes:Ascend. Another one is Super Monday Night Combact…but dont have high hopes for it. The first one sucked on the PC.

Voted for Brink (of course), GL guys!

I can’t wait for all those titles myself. Hi-Rez is a pretty decent indie studio and I think they’ll put out a quality version of tribes. Firefall I’ve been watching for quite sometime as well.

As someone who played MNC on 360 I have high hopes for SMNC. I know the PC version never truly caught on and was marred by a variety of things, but the 360 version was great fun with a decent metagame. Everyone will probably have a good shot getting in the SMNC beta if it’s anything like the original.

lol its ok I read the other edits, and they were fine.

Wow that’s actually really shocking.
But considering the options for this year, I get it. Admittedly, Vanquish was loads of fun.

(gooey79) #13

Vanquish was lots of fun, I still plan to Platinum it. In the end, I went with Dead Space 2. Great game, although I don’t care for the multiplayer.

Nice to see Brink at least make the list but regretfully, it’s just not as good as many of it’s competition.

(L00fah) #14

The gameplay is too glitchy to really justify being on the list… It’s really strange to see it up there considering the terrible reviews.

But I looked at some of the other categories and there are some games that are equally “WTF?”. Are the Golden Joystick awards losing credibility??

(tangoliber) #15

I would say that Brink and Nuclear Dawn are the best team-based shooters of the year by far.

Resistance 3 is the best deathmatch shooter of the year.

Bodycount, Crysis 2, and Resistance 3 have the best single player campaigns.

(L00fah) #16

Bodycount is terrible… SOOOOO BAD.

(tangoliber) #17

Its glitchy and low budget, but good. Pure gunplay without story or setpieces or gimmicks to distract from it. Semi-open environments which automatically make it better than most corridor shooters.

(L00fah) #18

Yeah and a terrible control scheme that’s almost ANTI-intuitive. I hated every minute of the lackluster demo I played.

I think Hi-Rez is more interested in making money off a free to play game then living up to “Tribes”. They are limiting loadouts to 2 weapons (not the usual 3 for light, more for the heavier armors), It seems like you either have to earn loadouts or buy them, and from what I saw you can’t pick and choose which weapons specifically (almost like preset classes you have to earn/buy). I was excited initially when I saw that a new tribes game was being made but after spending a small amount of time on their forums I am full of doubts and concerns (still one to be watched though).

Firefall I only heard of the other day but could be good as well.

With Black Ops,Halo Reach and Starcraft II up for votes, you probably won’t get first, but the shooter game votes have been quite low this year
