I think Tribes Ascend will be very good… .as long as you aren’t a hardcore Tribes veteran, in which case it will be too slow, and the skiing won’t take enough skill. But I don’t remember how to ski anymore, so I’m glad I’ll be able to jump in.

Actually, my view is a little different from that characterization. I think that every 5 years or so, you need a new competitive IP where everyone starts on a fresh slate. That new IP should have its own advanced techniques.
Tribes is not a new IP, and if I was a Tribes veteran I’d be angry…but I’m not really a Tribes veteran as I can hardly remember it, so I’m excited for it. Hopefully it will have its own advanced techniques.

When Twars was released for ET:QW it was really quite hard as a new player, veterans dominated, it wasn’t great fun, something to help new people would have been welcome, some sort of movement assist perhaps that was more forgiving that could be toggled, you’d still be not as effective as the veterans but least you’d not be as frustrated dying all time because of controls. Something like what SMART should have been, semi automated but with a real manual alternative for those who know how to move.
