Brink : Its time for new Consoles...

(oO Para oo) #1

Having played Brink this morning on the 360 one thing is clear, we need new consoles now.
The game is of a very low resolution and we have jaggies, pop in, no anti aliasing and generally poor looking visuals.

I am not talking about the actual grx they are superb, I just think we have reached a peak when it comes to performance this game would be absolutely jaw dropping if the 360 had more muscle and I am sure its frustrating for Splash damage not to be able to deliver the creative aspirations they have strived for. Even the character select screen is of low resolution (dont go by the youtube hd videos they are shrunk so look sharper).

Over all I enjoyed the game, defending is certainly easier. The one thing i cant work out is when I draw out my nade how to cancel it and put it away, anybody sussed it yet?

Get the game you WILL enjoy it.

Same way you cancel a armed grenade in real life.

(tokamak) #3

The pop-in is a bug.

Find a prone team-mate and roll it under them, they’ll take care of it for you

EDIT: Also, I know Rage and a few other games look gorgeous, but I’m afraid the 360 is at it’s limit right now. Unless there are some mystical hidden optimisations that nobody’s found, it’s going to cause multi-platform developers some headaches.

Don;t get me wrong I love the game and the Art Style is sooooo cool love it. Just wish the resolution was higher :frowning:

Glad console gamers come to that insight aswell. Always when I bring up the fact that consoles are starting to get outdated and they are holding game development back I get called a PC elitist.

(Otto) #7

Agreed the world needs updated consoles. I will always be a PC gamer, but we all benifit when consoles get upgraded. I hope when some day the next gen arrives they some how break down the walls and allow cross-platform as a standard, like they did with portal 2 pc/ps3.

Idtech4 - old engine.
There is a limit to how much you can improve the graphics
with that old engine.
That’s why it’s weired that the minimum CPU requirements for Brink
are to high for this old engine (my guess console port).
I’m waiting for the usa guys to start playing it on PC tomorrow
and report back about pc performance and options.

Rage is coming out on september and it uses idtech5.
Believe me you’ll see a huge graphic differences even on your old console.

(tokamak) #9

Rage is mostly singleplayer.

(boozee84) #10

if you got the game early you can’t expect the best experience. there will be a day 1 patch that adresses the graphic issues and other stuff.

(cptincognito) #11

Brink’s rendering engine is just as new as RAGE’s. I’m sure people would be surprised how much idTech4 is still in idTech5, and how little idTech4 there is left in Brink.

Allegedly there’s a fix coming for the texture res/pop in issues, you just have to wait until the game’s actually released.

(Tec) #12

Graphic issues not the graphic quality.

(hamstein) #13

I couldn’t care less. My PS2 still keeps me happy so it doesn’t matter to me. I’ve seen console videos and the graphics look fine, but then of course I have incredibly low graphics standards. I’m more about physics and smooth game play.

(boozee84) #14

yeah sure, but are the graphics more important than gameplay?

This will come at the expense of more frequent loading pauses in my opinion, but I stand ready to be corrected  The 360 really is a weak piece of hardware in many respects, especially where memory is concerned - I’m amazed id have made Rage look as good as it seems to look, but then we are talking about the Carmack here

The PS3 will always fare better, because it’s genuinely higher-specced. But, with so many developers aiming for a level playing field across platforms to reduce development cost, that usually means the PS3 version drops to match the level of the 360 - certainly not the best use of the hardware.

(Tec) #16

Ofcourse not.

My only concern for the PC version is performance.
I dont care if it will run on idtech3,4 or 5. I only wish
for smooth gameplay.

I don’t have a 360 but from what i’ve heard, Crysis 2 graphics are very good
on it.

we already know that the pc version isn’t a port it was developed in tandem with console by a separate team.

I’m very surprised to here such a noticeable edge on gfx, when Paul played through container city in 2008 at eurogamer the gfx where beautiful even then. and he was playing on the xbox version (not pc version with xbox pad)

i don’t mean to be rude but could it be your tv/ monitor i had issues with my last tv though it was full hd it was cheap and caused games to look a bit sucky.

yeah, i play alot of c2 on xbox and it looks amazing, but it has alot of flaws. mainly little CoD kids who don’t get into the game’s mechanics and spreading bullcrap all over the forums like: “i shot him 3 billion times and he turned around and OHK with a pistol” learn to aim goddammit!lol
