brink for free for two weeks when dlc releases?

(kilL_888) #1

just read on pcgamer that brink will actually be free for two weeks when the dlc will be released.

is this some sort of mix up or can we have some official statement about it?

heres the news:
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/01/brink-now-on-steam-in-the-uk/

It’s reappeared just in time, as the new DLC is set to arrive sometime this month. When that hits, the game will go free for two weeks to celebrate. The game’s currently 25% off at £22.49.

Was just about to comment on this. Methinks there’s been some mistake. Probably assumed the DLC was free forever (like most people did) and that the game was going to be free for 2 weeks as well.

If the game would become free for 2 weeks i’d be pissed.
It would mean I waisted 40 euro on buggy content so they could patch everything up and then release it to the rest for free.

I doubt this is the case

wut?

It would be really great actually as more people would actually purchase the game and you can actually play the game as intendend (with people) you wasted 40 euro’s for.

If it went free for 2 weeks I’d guess it’d be like steam’s free weekends where you can play during the free time but have to buy it to keep playing after.

I think this would be an awesome move to get a fresh injection of new players trying out the game now that there have been balance changes and bugfixes. It may boost the declining population.

Of course they could just release a demo. That’s how I ended up buying ET:QW. The demo had me hooked.

EDIT: but yeah… I’d guess this is miscommunication RE: the DLC “free window”.

EDIT EDIT: OMG! Thank you for linking this  Just read the article and discovered that Brink is available on steam in the UK again. Finally! Happy clam!

^ All good ideas and thoughts.

If you get it free within these two weeks, you own it forever and can redownload it for free, etc. Thats been confirmed on diffent forums by diffent officials.

Its NOT a 2week trial but a finders keepers

but now we are talking about the actual game and not the dlc

It’s a mix-up. Unless you hear it via the official sites, keep copious amounts of salt at the ready. ;o

…the internet in general these days seems to have a bevy of misinformation.

Have you guys thought of a “Steam free weekend” like they often do with other games (free to play over the weekend, purchase the game to be able to play afterwards) to coincide with the new DLC? It could help boost player numbers.

Would probably be a good idea. I’m sure there are many players out there that were driven off by the less than favourable reviews but wouldn’t be opposed to trying such an intriguing team-based shooter if given the chance.

Recent reviews I’ve seen (in magazines - June editions) have been decent. 76 - 80%. If I see a game rated 75% or more I think it’s worth checking out.

If they do a free weekend, I hope it’ll be after the game’s been optimized and balanced.

(zenstar) #15

The PC has been balanced with the last big patch (that should be coming to xbox and ps3 at the same time as the dlc i think).
I’m not sure what you mean by optimized though. If you’re talking about the ATI problems: go talk to the people who hacked together their drivers with OpenGL bugs. Many gamers with ATI having issues with OpenGL games and ATI atm. If you mean lag on Xbox - as far as I knew that was doing much better? plus i think the upcoming patch has some network optimizations.

Either way: post DLC would be a good time to do it (along with an advertising campaign “Buy now and you get the 1st DLC free - 2 weeks only”)

We’re considering all manner of things.

does “all” include free2play as well?

quite popular these days. but i think its a bit too early for brink to go f2p.

or… hm. free 2 play for offline mode only? that wouldnt upset me even as a loyal costumer.

(Seiniyta) #18

I had more the idea of free until a certain lvl and you get limited time with the full game to know how you can play if you kept on leveling your character and all kind of cool ablilities you get

God please no F2P, the rants would be endless. Maybe in 5 years.
