BRINK DLC to come in July, won't be free?

(Floris) #1

According to this RockPaperShotgun article BRINK’s Agents of Change DLC will be coming in July and will only be free for two weeks. Whether that means you’ll be able to download it for free during those two weeks and play it forever for free or whether it will work for free for just two weeks is a bit unclear to me.

(Galaxy) #2

If that is true it’s very interesting… because it would mean that with enough promotion for the DLC and how its free for only a limited time, people that left the game will probably feel more compelled to check the game within those 2 weeks instead of saying 'ok, the new free DLC was released … I’ll check it out sometime" and then probably forgetting about it. That would cause the biggest and fastest influx of new players possible at this point.

It’s plausible that this news are true since it sounds like the information came somehow from Bethesda… and this move looks very much like a marketing type move, if true it wouldn’t surprise me to see a lot of publicity for the DLC when released.

Edit: It seems that it is officially confirmed now.

Beat badman by two minutes :stuck_out_tongue:

so it’s free for people who already bought it and gives people 2 weeks to buy it if they havnt “cuz theyll have a d.l.c. for free”… nice strategy to cash in a few more sales.

Im pretty sure that the DLC will be out of cost for only those 2 weeks and after that everyone has to pay in order to play with the DLC stuff anymore. So if example you level up your character to lv21 and free DLC time ends and you dont pay, you cant play that character anymore. I guess the price is around 20-30 euros, prepare your wallets.

if DLC will be not free of charge, this is not last nail into brink coffin, but also 2 priests praying near brink coffin full of rotten flesh.

(nephandys) #8

It’s not that hard to understand guys. The DLC is totally free to you to download for 2 weeks. After it’s downloaded it’s free to you forever.

They specifically made the DLC free to make up for the problems suffered by early adopters at launch. Therefore, they are limiting who will have access to the free DLC by only allowing it for two weeks. That way everyone who has already purchased the game and suffered through the problems gets free DLC to make up for it. While anyone who purchases after the two weeks and therefore suffered none of the problems at launch doesn’t get anything for free.

Like I said in the main thread on the DLC it’s like a restaurant: if you have a problem with your meal it gets comped. If you have no problems with your meal you don’t get jack. If you had problems with Brink (or you purchase up to two weeks after the DLC drops) you get free DLC. If you had none of the launch problems with Brink and therefore most likely purchased after the DLC or the two weeks following it’s availability for free, then you don’t deserve jack.

This may be the stupidest thing I have read on these forums.

I doubt that is the case. I think they are just giving out the first DLC for free to the early adapters. Even though that’s still pretty rotten.

I’d like to hear why you think that’s rotten? You and me have had to put up with all the lag and problems at release so we are supposed to get a free DLC. Why should someone who didn’t have to deal with anything you or I did get free DLC? Especially when they specifically stated the DLC will be free in order to compensate for the problems at launch.

Unless you are of the opinion that all DLC should be free, in which case I encourage you to go to work and tell them from here on out you’ll be working for free.

Yikes dude! That’s a pretty selfish attitude you got there.

First, of all I work for food and beer. Second, I just think that announcing that a DLC will be free and then later saying it will only be free for two weeks is a jerky thing to do. Seems like an unsavory business practice that will make me question any announcements SD makes in the future.

It’s not about selfishness to me. It’s that the company is attempting to make up for its mistakes to those that were harmed by them. Future players will not be impacted by any of the flaws early adopters had to deal with. Therefore, IMO they don’t deserve anything for free. Like my earlier restaurant example, if your meal was fine you don’t deserve any compensation.

Personally I have to work for a lot more than food or beer. I have to pay for internet, cable, car, insurance, cell phone, xbox live, MMOs, my wife, gas, rent, vacations, clothing, pc upgrades, student loans, etc. (not necessarily in that order). I need money and so does SD, Bethesda, etc. I can’t go to work and offer free services as I would be homeless and starving in no time.

Do you not have any friends with a 360? Import your gamertag and download it there, once you have it you can download it for free any time after that.

(dabis) #16

This. My friend did that with my XBL connection when his xbox wasn’t working and it worked just fine for him.

I gotta say I’m on the same page as Nephandys here, especially since I am used to having to pay for basically any DLC I want (xbox360 user), so having a 2 week period where it is free is nothing but a gift for the terrible problems the game had at release.

In terms of money spent on the game, it evens out perfectly now, as I paid $60 for the game on release day, and it has since dropped $10-20 in retail price. The DLC will probably be around the $10-20 range, so whether you bought it in the past for near full retail and you get the DLC for free, or if you pick up it while it’s cheaper and have to buy the DLC, the customer is still spending the same amount.

Heck, for those that buy the game now and get the DLC shortly thereafter for free, they will only be spending ~$40-50 total for the game and DLC, so I can’t really see why people are viewing this in a negative light at all.

(btags) #17

you know you can just set your xbox to download the dlc from xbox(dot)com when it comes out if your xbox itself will not connect.

(wolfnemesis75) #18

DLC is free as long as you download it in the two week period.

(DarkangelUK) #19

I get the feeling you missed the part where he said he’ll be offline for a month

(its al bout security) #20

that sucks, its possible he might only miss it by a week :frowning:
