Good question. I know a Linux server would be preferable for us.
Any more info badman?

Can we get a list on how to turn off ora…I mean can we get a list on the possible server settings? Any eh, dialogue and general expressions of wishes would be useful to potential hosts.
[…] there are a variety of server-side commands available that allow you to further customize your server, including team sizes, time limits and overtime, warm-up rules, friendly fire, voice chat, availability of Command Post buffs, rank restrictions, number of bots, and password.
Hm, being able to adjust time limits and availability of Command Post buffs sounds good already. I wonder how much we can change right from the start. Restricting or removing certain abilities/weapons/weapon attachments might be needed for 5v5 format and could be there from the start which I would appreciate very much
i have to admit, this IS good news! tho i was expecting a bit more information: commands, options, needed specs, bandwidth etc.
well it’ll come eventually.
Fantastic news! Well done SD you really have done a good thing for PC gamers!
Thank you SD, not sure how much effort was required on your part to pull this off but I’ll imagine it was a bloody brawl from which you were triumphant.
Thanks for the information. Perhaps you have some more information?
Linuxserver => YES or No?
Serverperformance requiment for a 16 slot server @ full play?
Servertools and league tools are ready or only rcon?
This is great news and it got me thinking. However, like my name suggests, I’m clueless so bear with me
I thinking of running a LAN at my local church in their hall. LAN parties are hard to come by in London strangely and think if I can manage it then why not
I know some bits and pieces but can’t find much out when it comes to finding out about building a gaming server.
Assuming I could get 15+ people together would I need to buy/build a gaming server and how much would it cost?
It would need to run some Source based games, TF2, L4D as well as Trackmania and of course most importantly, Brink!
Any ideas guys?
thanks in advance for any help
@king_clueless
Nothing has been mentioned about Brink server requirements yet
But I seriously don’t think you need to go out of your way to get something stupidly overspeced
Most people that are running their current rig as an i5 or i7 still have an old Core2Duo/Quad/AMD equivalent hanging about
They might even be using it as their file server, linux box or media centre already
So I would say just throw together something from what you have available
It’s not going to be chucking out any beasty graphics so for a a one or two game server you shouldn’t run into much trouble
If you want to spend a bit of cash I’d say aim it in the direction of the RAM

You would think that would be a frequently asked question.

Let’s just frequently ask it, it will magically appear then (:
So what are the server settings exactly?
I would like to know if it can be run on Linux as well. Though… more out of curiosity than anything.
From experience A Core 2 Duo with 4gb is more than sufficient for running a dedicated game server.
The internet speed is where you will run into problems, so make sure you have decent upload speed, and make sure the internet connection isn’t being used for other things (torrents, youtube etc) when people are connected.
A list of the server variables and what they do would be great SD, and also how many kb does Brink use for up/down per player connected?
