A new story entry has been added:
[drupal=792]Brink Dedicated Server FAQ is Here[/drupal]

We’ve had a lot of questions about the dedicated servers for the PC version of Brink lately, so we’ve thrown together answers to the most common questions out there. The big news is that the dedicated server files will be freely available, so anyone will be able to put up servers for Brink.
Before we dive into the rest of the stuff, as noted over on Bethblog, we’re also working to ensure you’ll be able to pre-load Brink on Steam prior to release. We’ll let you know once we have more information in regards to timeframes and such.
And now, on to the questions:

Freely available? Hell yea, man!

The big news is that the dedicated server files will be freely available, so anyone will be able to put up servers for Brink.
This means you can make your own server with more then 8vs8 players?

(Herandar) #4

Unscooped DAUK? Not cool.

(LyndonL) #5

Awesome. It also says they’re striving to allow the game to preload prior to release.

Interestingly it mentions that the dedi servers will be available for CAMPAIGN mode which will make a lot of people happy… (No p2p).
HLDSUpdate is great too

EDIT: VOIP will certainly be ON on my server, and FF on!!

He STOLE my news! HE STOLE IT! I’m telling an admin abo… oh… :frowning:

Still, good news… no idea why it took this long, but still good news

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohooo :d

(Linsolv) #8

Um… wow. This is unexpected. Kinjal was getting to me, starting to make me think maybe things weren’t going to go well. Then you guys come out with this. Aww, come here, you deserve a hug.

(Herandar) #9

As I was replying to DAUK’s now closed reverse-ninja’d post:

Where is the bad news?! There is supposed to be bad news. That’s why they waited this long, remember?? Because they didn’t want to reveal the news that would make all the PC players feel slighted and trivialized?

There was no other reason for the delay, right?

(Linsolv) #10

Herandar, you should just shhh. Because you’re totally right on this one and a spanking is no fun.

No wonder I couldn’t post to your thread. Badman better step it up if we’re scooping his news.

(Herandar) #12

It’s okay, I’m done. I tried not to engage the Dedicated Server crowd too much.

(PsYcHo) #13

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Awesome news!! Very nice

(Mr.Fozzie) #14

another wise move by splash damage.

(Trivve) #15

This is great news! Now shed some light on SDK!

(master[mind]) #16

I’m setting up my server tonight!!! w00t!!!

Question, you mentioned a .bat file, does this mean the server runs on Windows only, or that you only set up pre-made scripts for the Windows binary(I’d prefer to run it in Linux, my distro boots up to only 32MB of mem use)

(Mr.Fozzie) #17

I’d still like to know if there’s any information regarding steam pre-loading on the user side of things.

(JFarrell) #18

Dear God I hope you will allow us to pre-load BRINK on Steam, will you?

(LyndonL) #19

Don’t you guys read. The very first paragraph of that FAQ says that provided it’s available, preload of the game files will be available on Steam.

(DarkangelUK) #20

Says it right here…

One additional note before we get down to business — we’re currently shooting to have Brink available to pre-load on Steam prior to the game’s release. We’ll have more specific info on that in the days to come.
