In the first part of an interview about narrative and visuals, Ed Stern - lead writer on BRINK, tells Time how an awesome world is build.
I think it has some new screenshots too.

“but then an Operative on our team threw an EMP grenade which slowed the charge’s countdown”
Oh I like.
ps3m interview with richard ham in german:
there’s some fricking news: (at least it is for me)
ham describes how he hacked a turret and remote-controlled as an operative from a hiding space. i did not know, that you could fire with crosshairs from the turrets POV.

Thanks for the heads-up. And yes, those screenshots are new and pretty. This game is breathtakingly beautiful!
:stroggtapir:
Oh man, you remember that time I was trying to disarm that HE Charge, but then an Operative on our team threw an EMP grenade which slowed the charge’s countdown
I dont mean to be disrespectful to Ed Stern, but that was the most interesting part of that whole interview.
Need this in higher resolution now!
Agreed. That’s the single most awesome Brink image released. I looked at the wallpapers, thought “meh,” but that one makes me want to convert it into wallpaper and put it all over my house!
Wow… Don’t get me wrong, I think the picture is mad, but that’d be one gaudy-ass house lol
A new story entry has been added:
[drupal=749]Brink Coverage: Techland Interviews and German Previews[/drupal]
Following his previous Brink coverage, Evan over at Techland recently sat down with members of the Brink team to have a look under the hood of the game’s narrative and art style. In the first part of the series, Brink’s Lead Writer Ed “BongoBoy” Stern sheds light on all things narrative, including creating a modular story, dealing with ludonarrative dissonance (I had to look that one up), and why the apocalypse is such an ever-present genre. In part two, Art Director Olivier Leonardi chats about why Hyperrealism is a perfect fit for Brink, why none of the characters are beautiful in the traditional sense, and communicating the game’s meta-story through the environment. They’re both fascinating reads and come complete with new screenshots and concept art.
In other news, Brink has also been busy over in the paper-based parts of Germany, resulting in sprawling previews in the print editions of PS3M and GameStar, complete with new screenshots and in the case of PS3M, a Brink poster. PS3M has also published a new interview with Brink’s Creative Director Richard ‘Rahdo’ Ham on its website, though it’s in the magazine’s native German tongue.
If you’ve spotted any other recent Brink coverage, please let us know in the comments.
can’t be (please, SD prove me wrong, i’d be fricking flabbergasted) but the focus is clearly on the guy in the mask. front end (barrel) and background (white crates) are out of focussed. if thats the work the (strongly altered) idtech4 engine i will pre-order a second copy thru steam.
Is that an actual in-game, unaltered screenshot?
Looks like one of the screenshots from ETQW. That means anti-aliasing, a very high resolution that was down-scaled and some depth effect. I seriously doubt it’ll look like that while playing. And most definitely not on consoles with their lack of AA.
Nevertheless, awesome picture!
It’s possible in id tech 4 to do a sort of hackery DOF, r_jitter in ETQW. They might have improved it tho.
Actually, it is an in game screen shot. Apparently SD IS THE ONLY DEVELOPER EVER WHO KNOWS HOW TO TAKE A PROPER SCREENSHOT WITH MAXIMUM GRAPHIC SETTINGS INCLUDING AA AND AF. I write that in all caps because this is a huge pet peeve of mine with EVERY GAME EVER MADE. Holy ****
If you don’t believe me, look at the fingers out of focus in the foreground on the shotgun. See how they’re unusually polygonal? If it were pre-rendered they’d be smoother.
