I’m one of the 3 who will be playing it on the consoles.
Brink + competitive + YOU!
Surprised to see you say that as I don’t know of any FPS on PC that offers the kind of clan matchmaking that RTS games normally support
That’s exactly why I don’t play competitive in FPS, I’m totally spoiled by the way RTS and RPG’s treat competition.
mainly because the FPS games are server driven rather than peer-to-peer which makes it a touch more complicated.
Have you played an FPS that does offer this? I’d love to know if there is a game out there using this system, the closest I know of is L4D2 but I didn’t think it went as far as Battle.net. I guess MW2 could do it now they use IWNet but I’m not aware of them supporting clan matchmaking.
No I didnt. L4D2 makes an attempt but doesn’t come close. I’m also not advocating p2p systems. RTS can get away with being P2P, but FPS cannot. I understand that dedicated servers make match-making systems more complex if not impossible. But Blizzard did it in WoW. Granted, they’re getting paid per month to run the servers. But in my turn, I would gladly pay a monthly fee, even for older games like ETQW and W:ET if it’s multiplayer organisation was on the same level as battlenet.
I don’t have the time to commit games to a fixed schedule, and I think that’s what puts many gamers off competitive gaming. But the moment the game starts doing it for you I’m sure it’ll spread like a wildfire. Matches are so much more tense if the outcome resonates in the community.
I’m not an expert but it seems to me that Brink, with it’s smaller amount of players per match, will be easier to get a similar system running than ETQW. I’m curious to see how a sponsored server set up would work out.
Its out of topic but you dont have to have an ingame " matchmaking system between clans " why not creat such a system on the Brink HP like they have it in the “ESL” ( Gather system )
So your Clanleader can registrate him and you can easily challenge another Clan or you join a matchmaking system that tries to find another clan in the line who is also searching !
Back to topic :
yesterday i asked around in my circle of friends and there were 2 saying they will definetly check out brink on the competitive way
No worries man, it’s entirely on-topic.
I know it’s very possible, I know there are awesome leagues going on. It’s just that I’m spoilt. I’ve tasted Blizzard’s system and don’t want anything else.
If Brink already has a bit of a social network set up for friends, then is it really a big step to matching up clans? Don’t the dedicated server restrictions already apply to that as well?
It is too early to say, but I prefer competitive playing. I don’t like easy games on pub.
As long as there is some type of pre-match system and spectator mode in the game I believe the competitive community will take care of the rest. This also depends on the game being balanced and bug free. I’ve been playing splashdamage games since Q3F (alpha to beta2) and they have always been supportive of their games communities. So I don’t believe competitive players have anything to worry about…
I hope.
It is too early to say, but I prefer competitive playing. I don’t like easy games on pub.
What about challenging games on pub? Are they acceptable?
The moment you stop losing pub matches is the moment you can say pubs aren’t challenging anymore.
shoulda come roll with the exclamation crew when we/they were pubbin it up.
those where some mighty games.
It’s hit and miss in ETQW these days, still some brilliant matches in pub though.
I’ll be playing it on a console, so playing with a clan is out. I will be taking on the unorganized xbox masses with a few of my friends though.
