Brink Clothing As DLC

(Mr.Splash) #1

Brink has major potential at making a small amount of money with DLC’s. This would be clothing. Would you be willing to pay your own money for clothing packs, or separate peaces of clothing in a DLC? A new type of armour example name Wraith for resistance has been launched. The cost for it varies 2.50 to 5.00 dollars or 150-240 Microsoft points.

Doing this clothing would be more of an effort to make, since they would be making small money. The main question is, would you support something like this? Or should clothing remain crammed into a Map Pack.

Gonna be brutally honest here. I would never under any circumstances whatsoever spend one red cent on clothing in a video game. I’m definitely not going clothes shopping for a character I can’t even see for 99% of my time in game. So for me the only way I will ever get new clothing or even care is if it’s included with other DLC.

By the same token I wouldn’t feel left out or put off if it was put up for sale and everyone else bought it because it’s not important to me.

IMO MMOs and titles with third person views are a better venue to sell these vanity items because you can actually see your character for most of the time you are playing. Therefore, you have a greater investment in the character and its appearance.

This. In for maps , gameplay tweaks/updates but not fancy stuff like hats or clothes.

TF2 seems to indicate that a fair number of people are willing to buy a hat in an FPS.
I think Brink should offer maps for free and customization in DLC / microtransaction. That way the community will never split and SD still gets money.

I don’t buy pay-to-win/pay-to-play weapon/map DLCs on principle, but have bought cosmetic items in TF2.

Moar haaats!

(zenstar) #7

You can never have too many hats!!!

Gunz also had a clothes buying option. Never bought any myself but my friend loves the top hat he paid $3 for. But that game switches to 3rd person perspective a lot so you get to see the clothes you bought almost as often as other players do.

All they need to do is add some sort of “awsome kill shots montage” at the end of each mission and everyone will want to play dressup

Ye i have never payed for cosmetic changes, did buy alot of DLC mappacks and stuff, but the suggestion of the most #WINNING kills might persuade me…

(zenstar) #11

You have to look good while sliding under someone while simultaneously putting their medic down!

I believe they had a feature like this in mind but it got cut due to time constraints. It would be a beautiful feature though. Or even just if the demo functionality got fixed and reintroduced.

(MrFoxer) #12

I don’t know about you guys but I don’t want brink to turn into another tf2. If you know what I mean that is.

(nephandys) #13

lol there’s a reason for those jokes about TF2 being the greatest hat collection simulator of all time.

(zenstar) #14

War-themed hat simulator! Please!

I am fine with it. People who want it, can buy it. Sandbox elements added to the game would be cool. Like Clan Colors/Outfits. I like some of the Pre-order stuff, although I feel that should remain unavailable, I think new outfits would be fine. I have no problem with it. The idea is to look unique in Brink, so that would do it.

(Spendlove) #16

Killing Floor does perfectly well and makes much green from releasing 4 character “outifts” if you like every so often. Usual price is £1.99 or £1 in the sales or on release. Seems a fair price to me for one full head to toe Security and Resistance outift and all the various permutations for £1.99. Cheap as chips and I am guessing a doddle to build, reskin and release to a hungry crowd.

My main reason for supporting something like this would be to have additional maps remain free so that players don´t get kicked when the wrong map rotates on to the server. It sucks when you are having great games on a server and then everyone else dissappears because they didn´t feel like spending cash on the DLC.

Plus this helps advertise your DLC in games since they people that don´t have it will see the people that have it using it.

Since the hardcore will be the ones mostly with the DLC maps, you should still be able to play on, especially since the first round is free. Later on, say late Fall, xmas time, maybe we see a 4 Mappack. Which by then with all the issues sorted out, they will be worth paying for.

I´m ok with payng for items like outfits and stuff, just against payng for maps/abilitys and stuff because that will divide the community.

I couldn’t care less about clothing in a game where I hardly ever see my own character…I’d die before I paid for it, as I can’t think of a better example of wasting money.

Added content like maps and modes - that I’d fork out for…:stroggtapir:
