‘they’? There’s only one, which was the point no matter how beautiful that single one is.
Brink 'A Choir of Guns' Trailer
Well Splash Damage didn’t market their game as “a breakthrough in death animation technology”. It’s supposed to be about
Balance
Deep Customization
Interesting Game Mechanics
I wouldn’t care if when an explosion happened the guy went stiff like a board and fell over. Hopefully if they don’t vary the animation. It will at least be coded so they always fall in the right direction or there is a momentum effect to blasts. What will be awkward is if they land in places where they can’t be healed or seen or land prone but are laying halfway on thin air which has been a big fail on the part of games like army of two and gears of war.
Begin edit:AND WHILE WE ARE AT IT.
GEARS OF WAR 2. That game was huge. I never heard anyone this one. When you go into your prone pose you just fall to your knees and crawl around. Brink’s is way cooler in that they do fall down. At least it’s not a half hearted OWWWWW! after being mowed down by a mortar and then dropping to your knees and crawling around.
But instead on top of all the deep customization and so on and so on you want what 3 or 5 or 7 presets? or maybe some kind of ragdoll system? How are they going to get into the preset prone position?
I think it’s asking a bit much.:End edit.
I fully agree with that. I may not even care for ragdolls as long as there’s some variation in it.
Sadly, as usual, the heat seems to be more about shutting down the discussion rather than any actual disagreement or argument. It just leaves even the most salient points buried in bitching and whining and the harder you try to make the point the more crackpot-zealot-like you appear.
To be clear, explosions, animations etc are eye candy much like blood or even high res textures. They are not deal breakers for me. However in the context of a thread analysing a gameplay video it’s worth pointing out and maybe discussing things that both look cool and look odd. That’s it really.
Given. Although to be fair the point seems to be that the single animation stands out rather than looks bad or isn’t some technical achievement. A variety of animations would also work and has done so for many many years.

Doesn’t this happen with animations too? I swear ETQW had sliding bodies, people hanging off ledges and levitating. Sure we don’t want to get screwed over a revive or worse be able to teleport through walls when revived (was that a bug in ETQW too?) but I don’t think it’s entirely exclusive to having ragdolls and/or a variety of death animations in the game.

Rahdo already confirmed they were looking at it back in August. Maybe it came off the table as less important than other features (which I totally accept). As I said in an earlier post. Having multiple voices in the game is also a large development burden and one that doesn’t impact the gameplay only the immersion.
“unrealistic death animation” ? it never bothered the million W:ET players, won’t bother me in Brink

I never said I didn’t think it would look cool. It’s just people are acting like this could possibly completely ruin the immersion of the game. Which it won’t.
Edit: Unless they let it.
You may be right about the explosion at 42sec, it could and more likely is the result of gun fire not the explosion. My bad. It is however largely irrelevant as I used it only as an extreme example of the single incap animation and direction of fall. The discussion was and is about single animation for incaps over ragdoll (and possible multiple animations).
As for the rest of your rant/troll bait, grow up.
Edit:
By the way. The reply I believe you’re getting all bent out of shape over was to LyndonL, who deleted his post analysing the content of this thread rather than contributing to it and leaving my reply under your post. I will edit my post now as it makes no sense.
“may be right”… then let’s make it oficial, check the attached images. let’s find that “elusive” grenade.
No man… it was your post, your post was full of gasolin.
… i do not “see” things that do not exists only for posting something constructive.

“Ruin” I think would be taking it to an extreme but you may notice it. I remember in ETQW when large explosions happened and everyone fell in unison, in exactly the same way. It looked a little comical.
I was playing Horde mode with some friends on gears 2 the other day and a boomer dropped three of us at once and that looks comical too. It looked like it was time to say our prayers or something. Big deal. Maybe your entire team should look comical if they all get destroyed at once.
Maybe an intentional animation sure, that could be comical. But if it’s just laziness on the developers’ part, call me picky but I wouldn’t be able to help but be at least a little disapointed every time I see it happen.
Well they do drop in to this particular forum and watch us gripe and complain about EVERYTHING they do so they will probably find some sort of fix. Even maybe just some random landing variations and then turning over might work depending on where they get shot from or if an explosion hits them.
Furthermore wouldn’t it be smarter to split the death animation issue into another thread? Kind of veering OT a bit. People are going to jump in wanting to talk about the video and jump into this.

Edit: Unless they let it.
You’re right. Ruin is a bit too strong. Nevertheless there have been so many efforts on making sure the details are right in Brink that it just seems wrong.
Did you see how they tried to pose everyone in the trailer so the death animation didn’t look bad? They are probably already working that out. I’m not even worried about it.
good trailer
Yes. I was quite impressed, even if I’m not looking forward to Crysis 2 multiplayer.
With regards to limited death animations, no, it doesn’t make or break the game. It would, however, be behind the level of the big modern shooters.
Sockdog is now burning in hell forever because he mistook a molotov for a grenade, amen!
My inability to identify bottles may also explain some lost memories and baaad hangovers.
