Brink 'A Choir of Guns' Trailer

(LyndonL) #181

Ahem it was deleted by a mod and I wasn’t aware… I stick by what I said - Coming into a thread after leaving it less than half a day ago and seeing 3 pages of people yelling at eachother is boring.

I’m interested to hear from one of the devs. I’m with Nail - the lack of death animations won’t upset me. I’ll just be stoked that I won the duel and see any death anim as victory  But Splash Damage can you please confirm if that video was from a slightly older build, or is there just the single anim?

Wake up, it`s all we get in Brink, that is why they are silent.
May be an engine limitation or whatever, I dun know, never bothered me in ETQW and neither will in Brink.

Dear Nerds,

Could someone tell me what that is?
Its around 0:43, and he throws it underarm.
Also its flight path doesnt seem to curve like the other nades shown, but ofcourse it could very well be the result from throwing it underarm.

Thanks

(BioSnark) #184

That is a grenade with a blue light trail.

(DarkangelUK) #185

(Still can’t really say this with a straight face) I think he was giving someone a buff.

(Humate) #186

Thanks!

I think he was giving someone a buff.

(DarkangelUK) #187

I’m not convinced it’s a grenade, I’m sure they’re overhand regardless. I’m pretty sure it’s a buff.

(Exedore) #188

It’s a revive syringe.

(Humate) #189

Yes, it seems you are correct!

Its a predator’s disc

(darthmob) #191

While we’re at it. What is it at around 0:28 that is shot by the grenade launcher? One might expect it to be a grenade but it jumps weird and doesn’t explode.

(MatthiasK75) #192

its a grenade and it has a timed explosion not on contact i believe

(Mad Hatter) #193

Aye, it directly impacted the guy and bounced off of him, then the scene changed before it went kaboom. First few times I watched it I thought it was one of the light rifles though, lol. It didn’t go “wumf” like the grenade launchers I’m used to hearing.

(Spaiker) #194

It looks like people getting OHK’s :o

(Bagnol) #195

I only saw OHK’s with shotguns and explosives, which I think most people are cool with. Just OHK sniper rifles are seen as a negative factor.

(DarkangelUK) #196

Those will be for showing off purposes for the trailer, not exactly riveting if they stay standing.

Dear Nerds (that includes you Exedore),

I have another pic for you.
There are two engineers with their tools out (no not in that way) trying to repair something. We’ll call it a crane for now. One of the engies seems to be no where near the actual objective, yet has his tool out running towards it.

  1. Are they fighting over the objective or can multiple players repair at the same time? eg etqw
  2. The tool obviously can be brought out ahead of time, based on this pic. Is it as simple as pointing to the objective and pressing the unibutton from a distance?

If you are within a certain distance of an objective you get a context icon, pressing use will pull you to it if you are also pressing SMART. The appropriate tool is equiped automatically when you are with the correct distance so it’s ready to go when you get there.

Guessing that two engies can repair something at the same time (including the bot), just because it makes sense, but it doesn’t look like two soldiers can arm a charge at the same time like you can in ETQW (which also makes sense).

(Humate) #199

Brilliant, thanks Cankor

Yes its the whole one plant per objective that got me thinking about the two engies with their repair tools out. I was under the impression that unlike etqw, only one person can carry the objective out unless they are killed during the process. You know, first come first served unless you die.

Direct hits with the Grenade Launcher are knock down collisions to help avoid OHKs. The collision itself starts a short fuse, so a good way to use the GL is to bounce shot - that way you can’t accuse people of noob tubing.

The knock down property on the GL collision has some useful side benefits - you put the target into a potential instant death situation - you, or a team mate could go into a finishing move on the knocked down opponent, or switch and shoot while they have a moment of immobility. They can get up and away if you’re slow to make use of the knock down, or shoot from the ground if they see you closing for the kill. It’s a bit of a guessing game, slightly to the advantage of the guy who scored the knock down.

In that video, if it ran on, you would have seen the GL grenade drop and explode, but with the knocked down enemy at about 3/4ths of the splash radius. For raw GL damage, time your shots into bottlenecks.

So yeah, the grenade launcher is a highly versatile tool in the right hands, but you do need to know what you’re doing.

No need to use the SMART button for this. Holding Use will just “get you there” and do the tooling, in the same way as the “get in car” button in GTA gets you in a car. The moment you release Use, you’re back to normal. While you’re constructing, you have to hope your team has your back, or be ready to return fire as soon as the enemy approaches.
