Brink 'A Choir of Guns' Trailer

(Dynamite Gnome) #201

The video is sick and really cool but check out brinkthegame.com and look at the characters under character customization those are really sick.:stroggbanana:
Brilliant, thanks Cankor

Yes its the whole one plant per objective that got me thinking about the two engies with their repair tools out. I was under the impression that unlike etqw, only one person can carry the objective out unless they are killed during the process. You know, first come first served unless you die.
I was guessing on the multiple repair thing but now that I think of it I did read somewhere that if engineers work on an objective together it can be done faster, seems like it was something to do with command posts (upgrading them I think?). So was just assuming it works like that for repair. Not sure on disarm since it seems like only one person can arm is disarm under the same constraint?

I think they said multiple hackers get the hack done faster too?

I finally really got a chance to listen to this video. Well done SD. I looks like you have really put in some hard work. It sounds like Chris has done some excellent work.

Basically correct on all points, including that only one Engineer can disarm at a time, as it really doesn’t take long.

For all objectives where multiple players can progress it, each additional player is half effective, so you don’t really get any advantage if you have more than 4 of the class. It’s of course so some semblance of class variety is maintained,

I love it when you guys talk tech! (and as always, great decisions all!)

(H0RSE) #206

But what about hand grenades? Surely, I would expect a player to die from being hit with a nade (even being close to one) and there nothing “noob” about throwing a well placed/timed nade. Are hand grenades OHK? Also, what about shotguns at close range?

(tokamak) #207

Music to my ears.

(Cankor) #208
Direct hits with the Grenade Launcher are knock down collisions to help avoid OHKs. The collision itself starts a short fuse, so a good way to use the GL is to bounce shot - that way you can’t accuse people of noob tubing.

The knock down property on the GL collision has some useful side benefits - you put the target into a potential instant death situation - you, or a team mate could go into a finishing move on the knocked down opponent, or switch and shoot while they have a moment of immobility. They can get up and away if you’re slow to make use of the knock down, or shoot from the ground if they see you closing for the kill. It’s a bit of a guessing game, slightly to the advantage of the guy who scored the knock down.
That explains then the knockdowns in the video. Maybe shotguns were knockdown plus damage then and not necessarily OHK’s? Even if they don’t do a whole lot of damage that would make a shotgun a lot more lethal, especially if you have team mates around to melee the guys you knock down  Assuming then with Friendly Fire on if you shoot your own guy with a GL it will knock him down too? I love there are so many new ideas in this game as there will be lots of new tactics to discover.

Seems like we are getting more feedback lately on questions in the forums, thanks Bezzy and Exedor!!

in ET: the grenade bounces off your enemy
in CoD: OHK
in Brink: it knocks your enemy down

That still doesn’t answer my question about hand grenades and shotguns…

(Bezzy) #211

Sure, standing on the epicenter of a grenade going off is still probably a bad idea.

And I’d say that whether or not grenades are noobish is entirely down to how they’re balanced. Throwing speculative OHK, large kill radius grenades half way across the map with no real counter tactic is probably quite annoying for people on the receiving end. It’s practically an act of God.

This is Brink. We make you earn your kills.
