Brink 'A Choir of Guns' Trailer

(Dormamu) #141

i’m preatty sure the immersion will be forever gone, the first time i hit the “Wanna go on-line” button, and not from the death animation.
It will go like this:

Me: - Are you ready my brothers? Let’s do this! Let’s rescue/destroy Ark!!!
Teammate1: - LOL WUT!!!
Teammate2: - GTFO Noob!
Teammate3: - ooooo… look Rambo is here… we are saved!!
Spectator: - Kick him… kick…F1
Immersion: - Fk this sh***, i’m out of here!!!

So next time you can use the right phrase? In the other thread you used superior “knowledge” as an exuse to belittle others and be hostile and generally antogonist towards them, all I’m doing is helping you out. You used the wrong phrase, I’m informing you of the correct one so you can use it properly instead of saying silly things.

Yes, I’m sure your reasons for pointing out my error was just to “help me out,”…

Besides, I have been saying that phrase that way since I was little, and I’m not changing it.

(DarkangelUK) #143

Are you even refusing to acknowledge the flaw in it? I respect you and your opinions a great deal, but regardless of the intentions it is educational regardless… even if it was a cheap shot.

(H0RSE) #144

I didn’t learn anything though, because I already knew the proper term.

(Jess Alon) #145

A gift should never come from the back of the hand.

(Cankor) #146

I’m not surprised one bit. This pretty much sums up my perception of your general attitude when arguing your points in a single sentance.

that was me not caring.

Wow. This thread has gone down the toilet. You guys are calling Bulletstorm immature? Christ, that game is aimed at more grown up people than you the way you’re all acting.

[Strike]This seems to happen when people enter threads to comment on the quality of the thread rather than contribute anything towards it… oh wait. [/strike]

Anyway! I hope SD can confirm that the animation is just a placeholder for something else they’ll reveal later. Whether that is ragdoll, animation or a combination of the two. Just don’t let that be the final and only incap animation.

And I still think the explosions and flames need a bit more oomph to them.

mirror’s edge?

(tokamak) #153

The sliding seems to be something the Crysis folks entered in at the last minute as it definitely wasnt around in the earliest trailers.

(.Chris.) #154

Battlefield 2042 anyone?

(tokamak) #155

I repressed that game from my memory.

Then let me bring something constructive. Your so caled
…
Just watched the video again and there is only one animation (unless you’re being picking over the choice of words). To make it worse the animation seems to trigger based on the direction the person is facing with is another WTF moment for the sub-concious (check around the 42 second mark where a grenade is thrown at a tank and a player running away dies and animates back into rather than away from the blast)…
is a flame, and full of c***. Your started your holly “death animation crusade” on a lie.
Ther was no grenade, only a molotov botle, hence no “KABOOM”, no blast, debris or anything else, no need for him to animate a death away from the blast.
the Security Guy was killed by the fellow laying on his back in the lower right side of the screen. With this you will find that his death animation is preatty much good. Play’it frame by frame, you only need to pause the movie in Vlc at you 42 sec. mark and pres “E”.
I do not find the point to bring something constructive to a witchhunt about 17-20 sec. of death animation from a 1:18 movie who is tryng to show the guns you will have in Brink.

(darthmob) #157
You mean, like this?

Compare and contrast those videos. Topic is the same - guns. I have no intention of buying Bulletstorm, and I’m-35-but-I-date-19-year-olds CliffyB’s junior high school humor evidenced in recent previous promotional videos of that game have been a huge turn off, not turn on. BUT dang, if Epic doesn’t seem to have a clear vision for their marketing and the game itself. Bulletstorm is only a month away. I look forward to Bethesda pulling it together one month before release as well.

Anyway, yes, having the same death animation ruins the immersion. I agree.
Not at all like this. Bulletstorm brings killing enemies into the foreground. I fear it’s going to get repetitive quickly and not just because it’s targeted at a younger audience.

Others have said that you do not really realise only seeing a single animation when you play. It may be true some of the time but surely not always. Your actions ingame should have an appropriate effect to maintain immersion. ET had no ragdolls as well but a headshot made the helmet drop and a well timed explosive resulted in bloody gibs. ETQW was very different in that aspect. No matter what you did to your enemies, shooting them with the AR or bringing down a hammer on them, they always fell down the very same way. Kill a group of enemies with a grenade and see them falling to the ground in the exact same animation. It looks stupid and ruins the immersion.

Brink seems to have blood and ragdolls for explosives when they gib the enemy. It’s ok but ragdolls for normal kills would be so much better.

Now I’m not really sure about any of Brink’s features anymore as it seems very little ends up confirmed but in Horse’s compendium v2 there’s a quote from one Richard Ham
“on the topic of molotovs, that poster was done a long time ago for our first cover article. at the time, we were definitely planning on having them in the game, had even done models and whatnot. but we generally prefer to only leave something in the game if we can “do it right”, and doing proper fire spreading is a TON of work that would have negatively impacted a lot of other systems (remember, we’re still a very small team of devs by modern game standards… just 50ish guys working on the game, compared to other teams that are 100+), so molotovs unfortunately got cut awhile ago. :frowning: but that just means that the stuff that remains is even better and more polished!”

On top of that, in the Choir of Guns video the controversial 00:42 does appear to be a grenade and not a molotov, mostly because I’ve never known a molotov to throw out so many sparks. I do think it looks a bit silly though if it is in fact the grenade/molotov that kills the guy but I have a feeling the heavy guy to the right might have been the cause of death. I dunno.

You may be right about the explosion at 42sec, it could and more likely is the result of gun fire not the explosion. My bad. It is however largely irrelevant as I used it only as an extreme example of the single incap animation and direction of fall. The discussion was and is about single animation for incaps over ragdoll (and possible multiple animations).

As for the rest of your rant/troll bait, grow up.

Edit:
By the way. The reply I believe you’re getting all bent out of shape over was to LyndonL, who deleted his post analysing the content of this thread rather than contributing to it and leaving my reply under your post. I will edit my post now as it makes no sense.

(Jess Alon) #160

No sense in getting so heated over the death animations… they look fine.
