I knew from the marketing lingo that single player was just botmatches but the pr department fooled a lot of people who may not have been familiar with UT and Quake 3’s “single player” mode
It wasn’t a nice thing to do to potential customers

It’s not looking bright right now for them, anyways; most major gaming blogs panned BRINK which tons and tons of people read, and everyone who bought it is pretty much telling everyone how displeased they are. I know anyone who has asked me if BRINK is good gets a “HECK NO!” Player numbers are less than just the Steam version of Plants vs Zombies (and doesn’t even have over 316 players on right now so it isn’t even in the top 100 games even though it’s a Steamworks title) pretty much makes everyone who looks into BRINK realize how sucky it was. It will take an amazing, perfect release for SD to restore their faith in people.
10:35EST should be midway through scrims for teams, yet there’s not a team to be found most likely. You probably would be spammed out of Team Fortress 2’s and Counter-Strike’s PUG and scrim channel right now.
I was a huge SD supporter and this was going to be my only purchase for the whole year, because I just knew SD would pull through. I lost a lot of faith in the company now. They’re all really talented folks by themselves, but to have so much talent they couldn’t beat a game they did years ago with a lot smaller team, nor could they beat out or even improve on ET:QW.
Given how poorly Brink was marketed and launched: hell. No.
They made so many mistakes with this game that I wouldn’t believe a single word they say about a new game being what we all hoped for.
Not everyone liked Crackdown. But they made a second one.
You do realize that Crackdown had 8+ as its scores, right? It was well liked by the press and lots of players. BRINK, on the other hand, has 2’s, 6’s, and 7’s dominating their review scores.
Yea crackdown was well enough received to warrant a round 2
Brink on the other hand probably has seen sales become non existent at this point, as well as having a stigma in thenpress and players ranging from “its garbage” at worst to “wasted potential” at best. The minority that love the game are confined to this board and number in the sub 1000 catagoey, which is not a market to aim for whatsoever. Brink has a a lot of factors that with any other game, any single one wouldn’t rule out a sequel that would improve on the game…but here they all form into a “perfect storm” that kill any hopes of continuing this IP whatsoever. If brink 2 is announced EVER I would be shocked and amazed at the publisher that is willing g to potentially piss away money on a dead franchise that barely lasted a month.
The video game business is cruel. Bad games that get lambasted at the press get sequels because they sell sell. Good games have great press and word of mputh yet die because of poor sales. Brink was skewered by poor sales, poor retention rate, bad word of mouth, and overall terrible reviews that all had a very central theme; false advertising shoddy craftsmanship and identity crisis. First round KO. I wish I didn’t feel this way because I wanted to love the game but I had to face the reality that its not that great and while people do still play it, it was unable to keep my attention for more than a month. I will not buy a sequel, period.
edit: I know I have typos but I post from a phone so its not 100% precise and a pain to correct but you will get the idea
^nah. Once you put a 2 next to the title of a game, people jump on the bandwagon regardless because the positive spin remains, and the old sore spots fade over time. You’ll see. A game like Assassin’s Creed has a good following, but didn’t live up to the trailer, that’s for sure; but look how that franchise has grown. Takes time. But yeah, slap a 2 or a 3 next to a game and it brands it.
You have no idea how this industry works
Also AC1 was a pretty good game by any means, sold fantastic, and had positive reviews across the board, warranting the financial push that made AC2 one of the best games of the last 5 years and turned it into a superstar franchise that literally has yet to disappoint
I have no idea what youre trying to prove by singlijg out that one. Same goes foe the Uncharted series…almost to a T in fact.
Using your logic, we can look at Conduit for the wii. Conduit 2 is a sequel to Conduit 1 and guess what, it still sucks ass and no one wants to buy it just like the first one sucked and no one liked it.
Then again if conduit got a sequel maybe there is hope for brink 2 after all.
currently, no (pc by the way). i took a risk on brink. i don’t buy many games at full price let alone at launch. brink was my risk and i’m a little disappointed. i don’t think brink is a bad game, i’ve had alot fun with it, but it surely is not living up to my expectations. if SD decided to abandon brink in favor of a sequel, i will be very disappointed. there are too many developers that drop support for their game once they feel they’ve made enough money on it. gearbox comes to mind. they make a game with great potential and then leave it with all the bugs in favor of creating dlc or another cash in from another publisher.
brink still has the potential to make it big. it will be a steep climb and require large changes, but SD could do it. they might have to take a humble approach and change things that they thought were key to the game like class balance and character progression…and maybe tighten up the gunplay.
Over half of Brink’s scores were 7 or better. Not bad for a new IP that is not just another FPS CoD clone.

For such a failure of a game, it’s amazing they sold over a million hard copies of the game. That’s not including the copies of the game DLed from Steam or wherever.
So yeah, it didn’t sell 10,000,000 copies ala CoD Madden Halo, but those are established franchises that have been pretty much the same, game after game, year after year.
The masses are asses. They like their cookie cutter life. They don’t wanna try the new mom n pop restaurant down the street, they’d rather just play it safe and go to Chili’s for the 1000th time. They don’t want to see some sci-fi indie flick like “Moon”, they wanna see Michael Bay’s Super Fighting Robot Explosions part 12.
…and they don’t like Brink. Whatever.
BRINK 2 would be best as either a console title or pc title but not both. Helps to know your audience.
no i wouldnt
if it has a demo or good ref (feck off dom) then i might consider.

Moon is a great movie. And is similar to Brink. They are both great. Slap a 2 next to the word BRINK and it becomes SEXY to the masses who are asses.
And Realtime Worlds are now closed down, they didn’t learn from mistakes made in previous games and mirrored them exponentially in APB, and as a result they’re now gone. I also suspect more than a few of Crackdowns sales were from Halo fans wanting early Halo 3 beta access as well.
SD is already heading down that route. Brink was not a success by any means whatsoever. Once the DLC sells 0 copies Bethesda will pull the plug on the entire series and put SD to work om something else.
65 PC players managed to somehow vote at least 2 times.
hey, I can be mean like you too.

Maybe I’m having a slow day, but I seem to be missing the joke/point/assertion here?

Blame the poll maker for making it multiple choice in the 1st place
It’s multiple choice because one can own a PC, PS3, and 360. Sorry that forum goers are not responsible enough human beings to cast a real vote and leave it at that. It’s sad that those voting no to platforms they don’t even have actually think it matters or something. Like SD is gonna see this poll and think “HOLY ***** SCRAP THIS GAME AND ANY PLANS FOR A SEQUEL!” It’s just a poll to answer a question for informative purposes. If people chose to abuse the ability to vote for multiple platforms that many people own, the blame lies with them. Not me as the OP.
Regardless of the multiple voting and as a supporter of Brink, I think the results would be the same. The majority on every platform would have voted no by at least 1 more than those that voted yes regardless of platform.
