Brink 2 is likely
If they drop Brink 1 without even fighting for it I won’t even think about getting a Brink 2.

Unless Brink 2 would be pc exclusively and promised with sdk/maptools and stock maps will be bigger than a few hallways.
PC gamers in their greedy yet natural habitat.

Judging by Brink, I’d say Bethesda should develop the entire game inhouse and leave Splash Damage to make a game that lives up to their track record.

Restrictions, ranks, and unlockables only go against adding depth. Why do you think games like COD and TF2 are mindless spamfests? Because of their depth?

Was only a matter of time before the PC vs console crap appeared…

Wasn’t so long ago that PC games with SDK/map tools were a given and expected of most fps game releases, especially games built on idtech software. Are you saying we’re suddenly greedy for expecting what we used to get as standard?

Is Brink the 1st idtech game to be released without mod/mapping tools?

2nd, but that one was most likely due to Activision throwing a tantrum over id and zenimax.

I see it as greed and to know that not every game can achieve everything from Splash Damage. Please the rest of my other suggestion on the top on page 1.

Can you clarify why it’s greedy? Console players shout for more maps and add ons all the time, all of which take longer to produce than releasing an SDK. Hell even some said they’d pay a small fee for a SDK so they can produce more maps and mods for the community and help the game itself gather more players and longevity, so why is this greedy?

I’ll answer the rest later, moff home.

I don’t see this happening without changing the art style. Despite what SD said about maintaining a high level of customization, Brink’s customization options, while nice, are not all that in depth. I think the real reason there are no female characters in Brink is that they would look hideous with Brink’s current art style.

(tokamak) #33

You can’t blame the customers for a failed product. I’m not apologising for having standards.

(BioSnark) #34

can you spell out how that supports your assertion?

(Crytiqal) #35

Releasing an SDK isn’t really exessive greedy then imo, since there is no personal gain in that for the receiver, only to enjoy himself with creating content FOR the community.

It’s like saying you are greedy if you LIKE to work for greenpeace or something and want to go on their next tour to help out

However, all these people on the forum talking about BRINK 2 (about a dozen threads already?) and new DLC and more maps…
Guess what platform they are from

Us console gamer may want more than you do but this is just ridiculous for both of us to an extent. Patience is what’s need for success. The main thing that causes this disagreement is the fact that console gamers and PC gamers come from different backgrounds and perspectives.

Oh now I get it, a Troglodite clinging to Austrian school. They’ll always find a way to shoehorn in their convictions regardless of the subject.

(zenstar) #39

The whole console vs pc thing is getting stupid.
PC gamers want a title tailored to PC. Brink is not. By their own admissions (it’s in one of the threads somewhere, I’m not hunting for it) they stated that they were trying to keep the codebases as close as possible and this has (basically) resulted in the “console feel” on the PC (the dreaded “press F for everything” curse that irks a lot of pc players for example).
While I can understand the need to keep codebases similar for easier bugfixing etc it also means that the PC generally gets gimped.
When someone says they want a PC exclusive what they really mean is they want a game that is tailored for PC play and not forced to work on PC from a console design.
Deus Ex:HR had a seperate company come in and do the PC interface to make sure that PC players didn’t consider it a “console port”.
A friend of mine got Dead Island on PC and said “It suffers from consolitis but it’s great once you install the community mods”. The fact that a community sprang up in days and modded the game to make it more of a PC game shows that A: a community allowed to tinker can do wonders and B: PC gamers have different expectations when it comes to interface and design because they aren’t restricted by a controller.
Does this make PC better? For some games it does. For some games a console is better.
Overall it makes them different!
And that’s what PC gamers want when they say a PC exclusive. They want that difference because that’s why they play it on PC. I play FPS on PC because the mouse + keyboard is a superior interface for it and I don’t like playing an FPS with a controller. 3rd person action? Controller wins. FPS? mouse + keyboard please.
Quit whining about greedy PC and complaining Consolers.
Brink would probably have a few more PC people playing if it played like a PC game on the PC. That’s basically it.

Okay? I was wondering how it supported your singling out one market as you did, earlier. I guess you’ve retracted that, but thanks.

@deadisland: Pretty amazing watching that grow almost on launch, far before valve clarified their VAC policy
