im fine with it, even when i really really wanna play brink i understand their reasons.
A demo would be nice though, is what got me into playing UT3 for 3+ years

Of course not. It doesn’t matter that the demo led you to play the game. The game itself is what kept you hooked for 3+ years.

Fair enough. I don’t think anyone can disagree with the fact that “beta” is an overused term and people just don’t get it’s not the final game, nor is it a stage to add features X, Y, Z.

yeah, but im not sure i would’ve even bought the game if i wouldnt have enjoyed the demo so much.
I have a lot of games i’ve bought only after playing the demo, i know brink will not be this case since i’ve been following it for a while now and im going to get it no matter what.
But for a lot of ppl who is not as exited about the game as we are and is unsure about getting it a demo is what could make the difference

I actually hope they don’t release a beta, but a demo would be great. In the very least, to test for
Reasons for no (labeled) “open beta” is because I want SD to make the game THEY want to make … and not have thousands of COD-only FPS’s flock into the forums and start demanding certain things.
They’ve gone this far to make sure everything is perfect before release and I have no doubt they’re doing a great job.

Nice Article find 3Suns. It is true most people take the public beta as a demo. Hell I’ve done it a few times, but thats usually due to the lack of bug reporting support on public forums. 95% of people who participate in pub betas have no clue how to report bugs and most the time there isnt a bug log for these pubs either. The pub Beta is mostly for the 5% of System configurations that cant be tested in house, and for Network load tweaks. I do like the engine test app that frictional Released for Amnesia to test system configs.
Im sure ,like most people here, that we have preordered Brink for some time and really wish it to come out. With the delays for “polish” theres a good chance that the Core game has been rendered almost bug free for beta standards or else they wouldnt have set a Release date. And there is no reason why a small group of in house testers cant balance the game through play testing. I have the up most confidence in the teams hired under Zenimax for their quality. I just cant wait 3 more months for this game.

Bethesda isn’t exactly the patron of bug free quality software. Fortunately Splash Damage don’t make games just to get a paycheck so I’m sure they’ll keep crushing bugs until release day and beyond.

Thanks to 3Suns post it appears that the canvassing for a public Beta is futile. Thanks for the link.
It’s obvious through all the posts that the majority of fans wouldn’t spit in the face of a public Beta, but with 3 months to release and the risk that some may take a Beta as a gospel demo, it would be a pointless, if counter-productive exercise.
I have confidence SD know what they’re doing. I just hope they are providing for a HUGE audience 'cos i know I’m spreading the word with all my FPS mates!
