Bring On The Beta...

(Zekariah) #1

I’m aware the subject of Demo/Beta for Brink has been touched on, but my suggestion is that a Beta is a more sound idea that works for both the gaming community and the creators.

We have seen in the past the blunders of some of the biggest names in shooters when it comes to their online multiplayer. (heck…Black Ops couldn’t even get system link right!) And when there is a poor performance online, the game suffers overall.

Gears Of War 3 has already lost part of its fanbase due to what I would say maybe the worst multiplayer experience ever in Gears 2! This is unfortunate as it sounds as though they are fixing it for the third installment.

Kick Brink off with an exciting beta opportunity, and then the data goes straight back to the creators so they can tweak and adjust any issues that arise, instead of releasing update after update to try to mop up the mess. (Yes offence, Black Ops).

Halo: Reach got it right…and everyone had a heap of fun.

Splash damage…you can surely top that!

Bungie used the Halo Reach Beta to bribe people still playing Halo 2 to stop playing Halo 2 as well. Not the only reason they had it, but still. :stuck_out_tongue:
:stroggbanana:

Also isn’t it only sequels that get open beta usually?

Please please please. There has been so many Beta threads. Shut this one down before it gets out of hand again.

(DarkangelUK) #4

I honestly couldn’t think of a tame enough “It’s been touched more times than a…” joke that wouldn’t get me banned, so i’ll politely say that the discussion has been covered in quite a bit of depth, and there’s even a thread actively talking about beta/demo/freeplay weekend just now.

(Zekariah) #5

Apologies for the what seems to be cliched thread. Should have viewed the other threads on this subject first.

Still…Bring On A Beta…

(gunzo) #6

Welcome to the forums. Dont mind the troll, they don’t even know how to spell awsome.

None of them actually read your post, they just default to whiny mode.
If they had, they’d see that you make some very good points that are very different from the very good points in the 47 other beta threads.

(tokamak) #7

I don’t want a beta and neither do I want a demo. They’ve chosen to delay the game with 2/3’s of a year to balance it internally so let’s see how that turns out.

Besides, I’ve already stopped considering everyone’s opinion on things equally valid.

(Hansi) #8

A public beta is a bad idea. The public Beta for ETQW has made a lot of bad publicity. Too many trolls were playing an uncomplete game, without understanding what “beta” means, and then they were spamming the forums all around the world, the game would be ****.

(tokamak) #9

All the while I would’ve sold my two front teeth for that beta (though a gamespy subscription was a bit too expensive for it :D)

(Crytiqal) #10

You have two golden front teeth?

(.Chris.) #11

It was free though?

(tokamak) #12

No it was not. It was limited to gamespy members.

(.Chris.) #13

Are you sure that wasn’t just for the first batch of beta keys? I got into both betas without any subscriptions.

Didn’t miss much anyway.

(Humate) #14

It was actually free. The subscribers had a separate set of keys put aside for them.

(SockDog) #15

You had to register but not subscribe to get a key. Although yes IIRC the subscribers did get some extra keys.

Steam Beta!!! My participation is a click away!

(MrX) #16

I would prefer a private beta and nothing else. Reason too many ppl play the beta and dont really know the purpose of it .See crysis 2 demo on xbox360 ,all of them are saying its a beta they dont know the difference at all .Leave the develompent and balance to a few that they know how the game must be played . Releasing an open beta to the public and all you see is whine about weapons ,classes ,nerf this that .

(SockDog) #17

To be honest people are going to bitch anyway. The issue with Betas is people’s expectation of what can and can’t be changed. Any Beta should ram this information down the participants throats or give them a very channeled method of delivering the information.

Saying a Beta is purely for Critical Bugs, Hardware Compatibility and Server load testing may prevent a lot of the wild expectations people have.

(DarkangelUK) #18

Tbh, I think half the time the masses cry out for a beta is just so they can get early access to the game cos they cba waiting till the release date.

(Nail) #19

Ya think ?

how many threads have we had where poster wants beta because he is so great at finding bugs when they can hardly compose a rational thought or spell better than a 4 year old.

(DarkangelUK) #20

Yes, obvious statement was obvious
