I’ll be honest and say that would be partially my motivation too. Although I’m happy to payback with bug reports and other feedback as required. Perhaps putting a feedback form on the end of each map would weed out the pure gamers from those willing to contribute.
Bring On The Beta...
Honestly i’d be interested to go through the list of remaining etqw bugs only to stop myself from abusing them later because they’ve been left unfixed for 2yrs(icarus bug, vehicle exit bug, etc.).
I’m hoping SD and Bethesda are going to support Brink for some time and not do an Activision and assume all bugs will be fixed in a certain number of patches. I said before but it seems to make sense to do incremental patches and updates on the PC via Steam then roll into patches on the consoles once tested. Even an opt in for beta patches could be done.
It definitely depends on who is developing the game. I have faith that a private/internal beta would be sufficient for SD to get the feedback they need. For other developers who have issues balancing weapons, etc. It might be necessary to have a public beta.
I agree for weapons and such it’s largely a moot point. The stuff that needs changing can and will be done post release, SD aren’t going to let the game out with glaringly insane balance issues.
Things like bugs and hardware compatibility do favour fresh eyes and wide configurations.
SP is not stupid, so they want people to just understand the magic of whart is BRINK, and not find massive flaws with it in a beta, which just turns most people away completely… other than the Halo Reach beta, that was executed perfectly! but that was a one in a million chance, nothing but luck.
yeah, I mentioned it earlier, if you’re on the SD forums don’t call them SP. I keep reading Single Player and it confuses my old brain
Something that could help them out (and who knows they’re a bunch of big boys they may have already tried some things) is to have some bethesda employees in D.C. and some SD guys boot up the game and see how it works over the net. I know it is a relatively small test compared to seeing how the game can handle multiple match loads of people, but it is still a test.
I don’t know how extensive Rockstar tested their multiplayer but on day one Red Dead had things disappearing like crazy. To fix it they made a patch that took out most atmospheric effects along with wild life and NPCs, it took them six months before they put a patch that both fixed the game and restored all the things that were in there on day one.
Edit: And I’m not ragging on Rockstar, I actually have respect for how they handled their game.
Agreed, we get a beta if SD want us to have one, otherwise just be patient people
oopsie:D sorry, im new to this stuff… im kinda a newbie, it wasn’t too long ago that i was still a CoD whore untill i realized how stupid it was!
I would love a beta or a demo…I want to give this game a try…im so sick of waiting
Probably too late to have even an closed beta. Release is only a few months away. I’d imagine core features has been tested to the extreme, signed off and locked down. Only thing to feedback on would be minor issues, like map issues.
Also, SD have been pretty mean (yes MEAN) by not allowing any gameplay footage out. You start doing a beta, and people will post videos to YouTube, yes even under NDA. And then that kills the interest a little bit.
On the other hand, I would totally dig a demo. Playing the ET:QW demo is what got me hooked in the first place. If I hadn’t have played the demo, I wouldn’t have bought the game, thus not been apart of this community.
I plan on buying it either way, I just want to try out the mechanics of the game. They are so different I want to know how they feel.
I always get weary of new games like this that don’t have some form of a larger beta.
However, seeing as how Brink has been delayed twice makes me feel better – compared to a game like Killzone 3 which needs to be delayed a whole other year.
