Brightness control does not function

Anybody know why? I used to be able to change the brightness in ET by moving the slider in options. I’ve upgraded my graphics card (both were ATI) and still have same problem, I’ve been through about 5 updates of Cat drivers (currently using 4.7 beta’s). I don’t have any other monitors or TVs plugged in. Other settings in the Cats are still on default. All settings in ET are still default. The only time I can get the brightness to work is by running in full-screen mode (which I never do because of the MSN messenger bug where any pop-ups make the screen go dark).

Is it possible to adjust the brightness when running in a window? Currently every time I start ET I have to right-click the desktop, choose properties, go to the settings tab, click advanced, wait for the ATI control panel to open, click the color tab, adjust the gamma slider up to 2.00… and then put it back again when I’ve finished playing. It’s a PITA, is there an easier way?

i use this script for it:

// Brightness reset
//
set videoreset "vstr video_mode1"
set video_mode1 "r_gamma 1.5; r_ignorehwgamma 0; set videoreset vstr video_mode2"
set video_mode2 "r_gamma 1.6; r_ignorehwgamma 0; set videoreset vstr video_mode1"
bind F9 "vstr videoreset"
//

maybe it helps for you.

r_ignorehwgamma 1 or 0 - Cant remember. Basically, allows ET to adjust the brightness (r_gamma 0.8 - 2) rather than the set brightness/gamma the card is at. r_intensity 1 - 4 imo is also handy.

<3 mouse. 2fast4me.

I tried your script mouse (placed it in with my binds.cfg and exec’d it) but the F9 key didn’t do anything.

Your code worked great though pgh, thanks! :slight_smile:

Not just a spamming idiot… :wink:

Er OK sorry I spoke too soon:

  • “/r_ignorehwgamma 1” says I need to restart before changes take effect, and when I did it made the title screen brighter, but when I joined a game I still couldn’t see anything. ET says it’s set to 1 if I type it with no value.
  • “/r_gamma 2” or “/r_gamma 2.0” makes no difference whatsoever, nor does it give any message when typed in. ET says it’s set to 2.
  • “/r_intensity 4” says I need to restart too, and it seemed to make a difference to the lighter parts of the map, but still 90% was pitch darkness. ET tells me it’s still set to 1 though.

(BTW I didn’t call you a spamming idiot, it was directed at the guy starting the thread, heh no wonder u had a go at me :))

wtfhax??? it works @ my config, maybe change the gamma settings a bit so the effect is more clear, like gamma 1 and gamma 2. I didnt copypaste this from my config directly but from the site i got it form, but it should make no diffrence. Me no comprende :weird:

Yeh mouse I tried putting more contrasting values, I also tried /r_gamma in the console to see if the value had changed, but it doesn’t. I’m using ETPro 3.0.6 btw.

Check any gfx card settings… maybe somethings set there… dont use any ATI stuff anymore so I couldnt tell you what options what and such.

You know, when it says restart, it means you do a: vid_restart in console which restarts your video settings and not open/close ET… :slight_smile:

Soz for the go then :stuck_out_tongue:

Duh I didn’t know that, will try later, footies on now :slight_smile:

Also, backup the original etconfig.cfg which will be changing. Then, when you start ET, change ALL the values you need to type; writeconfig etconfig and this’ll create a new etconfig.cfg with ALL the current values. Then do the vid_restart. If this fails its simply a case of deleting the etconfig.cfg and replacing the backed up one back in the folder.
