I would love a BR mode, but not with small maps, BR map had some empty areas you could fill with side obj so we don’t need to cut them away
As for the walls, after you construct them, allow the soldier to plant c4 to destroy and create a breach in them. The engie will be able to patch those holes who should be easy after that (after they are repaired) to be destroied (not requiring to use again the C4 but instead weapons, grenade launcher, grenades (half the life of the EV).
The CvOps can enter the enemy base and deploy a beacon who the FdOps can use to cal-in the heavy artillery (like spotter/mortar strike from Tribes or some kind of Binoculars/Mortar strike from W:ET)
The medic should heal :D, and we have a job for every class :D.
The maps should also be tailored to accommodate (to a higher/lower degree) TDM,CFT,LMS,aim, obj, etc. Then the players would vote what type of match they should play on that map.
(off topic - If the players vote the ctf mode, then the game will change to “steal the Golden Goose”. They will need to steel a Golden Goose, bring it back to their base so he can lay down a golden egg, after that you need to steel another goose :D. If you drop it or you get killed, then the goose will start to run back to her den (enemy base). If you find the speed of a running goose to fast, you can slow her down with bullets
)
BR mode : Base Race !
For me baserace is the best “pub” gamemode with everyone involve in “something”
running around to defend the base, try to rush to get some element for you own base to construct, try to intercept some rushers, etc …
one of the best custom mode of Wolf ET and at least there is one in ETQW (chris map ? don’t remember but I think so)
So yes definitely + 10 for this game mode.
That’s why SD should make it official this time imo. There is so much that can be done with such a game mode, and this is kinda new on the market too, so yeah, this could be a selling idea.
Then it uses all the mechanics of DB in a free world (no timer to do objectives in a precise order …etc.). I wish there were 2 or 3 maps for this mode upon release of DB. At least 2 for starters. This is also a nice way to practice your skills, whatever class you may select. And I believe some people have been questioning the 8vs8 policy, there could be more in this mode (maybe 12 vs 12 ?).
This is promising and I already know I would kill to get to test such a mode in DB, because it would be fun, intense, fast paced, with chaotic environments, with the full liberty to use explosive weapons to wreak havoc everywhere and … damn I want it so bad ^^
L4D2 verses scavenge was kind of a stopwatch version of baserace, also very fun.
I’m gonna try to make a quick concept art sketch for a “base race” kind of map. I’m not really good at drawing but this could be fun
Yeah sounds good, if we’re having TDM then base race would be a nice supplement as well. And to be honest I’m aching to see how a professional team would approach such a game.
+1, but before they get the time to even think about it I will propose concept arts and a map I’ll do with the UDK (only geometry and some static meshes too). I wonder what SD think of this though ^^
I’m imaging two makeshift decontamination / disaster control camps opposing each other on Trafalgar square. That place is beautifully one-way symmetrical. Both teams can then fight over resources and construct the two ‘forts’.
This could be set at another time during the war. The objective takes place after the war, lets make it right after the dirty bomb ! LIke two bases that have to go get decontamination devices to equip their base and survive. The team with the safest base survives. This could be fun. I’ll think about all this and propose a complete and precise concept.
Or -right- after the evacuation when all the equipment still needs to be installed.
Yes, I think this suits nicely this mode, so, we have the story now ^^ I’ll make some sketches tonight and tomorrow, hopefully I’ll put them soon in this thread
[QUOTE=BomBaKlaK;442141]and at least there is one in ETQW (chris map ? don’t remember but I think so)

Correct but it was just a test version, would have loved to have made a full version
ok, I’ve been searching for nice places in London that would suit for a base race, which we should rename … maybe “Evacuation Rush” ^^ … anyway I found three locations that are promising :
Roosvelt memorial :
Trafalgar (idea comes from tokamak) :
The british parliament with Churchill’s war rooms and the treasury :
I really love the last one, definetly my favorite with this no-man’s land in the circle shaped court, could be a beautiful post-apocalyptic scenery
Looking at the pics and had a random idea: connect ‘something’ to electricity which is powered by electric stations or houses. Could be fun to have such points to fight over, just as a secondary objective, or even sort of a primary objective, or it could do something else, like boosting a process which has to be completed, or powering masterful static turrets. Just a random idea.
Places look nice for a location
I had some similar ideas, though I didn’t think of the electricity. This could be a fun objective to fight for. I also had in mind to put a radio beacon in the Roosvelt memorial, that once activated gives drops of supplies to the team that captured it. This is convenient since it is located right in the middle of the map. There are so many possibilities for new kinds of objectives, this is sooo cool
and for the locations, I’m not from London, so I had a hard time looking through out the whole city in google maps for symetrical spots ^^
Why restrict yourself to a real life location? You just need the theme of London not an exact match, personally I wouldn’t even bother making it in London.
True … why not … for the moment I’m really brainstorming on the matter, finding objectives, spots, ideas on how to renew this game mode and how to adapt it for DB. All ideas are most welcome !
A certain amount of limitation sparks creativity. A canvas with a couple of rough guidelines often leads to more interesting art than a blank canvas.
Trafalgar square plus two entire buildings is way too large for a map though. Too much open space to process.
I’m thinking more of two camps build within trafalgar square. Right next to each fountain, or perhaps stationed on top of each fountain build on swift scaffolding like all the yellow constructions we constantly see in DB maps.
That is precisely why the parliament is attracting me so much. Closed quarters, many history within these walls, lots of possible routes, satisfaction for all classes with medium range sniping, open spaces for artillery, inside passages for shotguns mines and turrets, and enough space to openly fight, this could be a delight.
I will further think about it for it interests me deeply !
True but having two make-shift bases in the middle of a square means that your bases are truly modular which is all the more interesting in BR.
