Bows?

Okay hear me out on this one…But what if…We add a merc that uses a bow?

I know what your thinking “Thats a dumb idea, you hanzo main!” But I think it would be a great idea for a merc. I think they can base the bow for the primary weapon and then have switchable arrows with different effects, i.e Explosive,gas,and sonar. It would also be cool to be able to pick the arrows back up, because ammo is scarce these days. I honestly think there needs to be more mercs that require more effort to play. Compared to guns you just have to have your tracking on point to be good with them. If a bow was added to dirty bomb you have to consider its velocity and its drop off.

How dirty bomb should make the bow:

  • Would have 2-3 switchable ammo types
  • Would have the same hitbox as a bullet
  • Would have travel time
  • Arrows would drop off at a certain distance
  • Low ammo count (12 arrows on spawn)
  • Ammo can be recovered from bodies and walls/ground
  • can pin enemy’s to the wall :smiley:

Why i want this so Badly:
Most of the time when i play video games i like to use weapons/items that put me at a disadvantage to what everone else is using. so often times i find myself using guns that have gimmicks to them or just run around with a knife in games. Because Even tho it may cause you to die a lot nothing beats the feeling of gettin kills with weapons that take time to use. Plus i just like bows

I do like the idea of having different arrow tips with unique abilities if bows are ever implemented in the game.

Would be cool if done right. Crossbows especially bring back some very fond memories of Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and 2. As much as I hate to say it, my most fun moments in video games have been with those games (with friends of course). It was always hilarious sticking someone with an explosive bolt and then watching them run into teammates and be blown to smithereens.

I’d rather not have more high per-shot weapons, especially something that could potentially one-shot a merc.
There’s luck involved with everything. If you get a lucky headshot with a low damage weapon, then it doesn’t really matter. But if you get a lucky headshot with a high damage weapon, then there’s a major problem. No matter how much skill it takes, luck will always be a factor, which is why I’m almost always against high damage weapons.
It’s like the revivr, and how much time SD spent trying to rework it so that would no longer happen, but it still does.

Maybe if it was an autocross type thing, but not a standard high damage bow, even if it did have different ammo selections.

@STARRYSOCK What about a strictly ability based bow that deals no or minimal damage? Shock? Freezing? EMP tip? Spotting? Affecting the enemy ability cooldowns? Idk. I’d rather them not be similar to snipers. It’s a neat idea but admittedly it’s hard to see how they could fit into the pace of DB.

Spark’s REVIVR already functions similarly to a bow. (you click to charge, then let go to fire) You’d mostly just need to change the model and have it fire a projectile rather than using hitscan.

I’d imagine it wouldn’t take that much work to get in game, and given how each new merc from now on will have new guns and melee weapons, I don’t see a bow being too far fetched.

Meh, there are a lot of games that have bows, not just OW. But I mean, if something works well, why not use it too lol.

I meant that while SD has accelerated development in bringing new mercs and weapons for players to appreciate, let’s not make bring a Hanzo type of merc. Also, while we appreciate Javelin’s mini axe, I’d like to caution SD not to add a war/sledge hammer type of melee weapon so as not to make another Reinhardt.

It’s a possibility, SD went crazy with adding Tomahawk, and now adding batongs.
Perhaps it should have an arc, where the further the arrow must go, the higher you must aim?

HF- Vibroweapon has been around in the galaxy many centuries in the old republic

the blade cant be cut by lightsaber and its closer to reality than having lightsaber

If knives look so unattractive for Phantom, but gameplay wise they have their reason.
Then make them look pretty!

Also make sure you don’t add a merc with a grenade launcher or detonated explosives so you don’t copy junkrat, and you can’t add someone who places barriers or you could copy Orisa.

With the amount if class-based shooters, you can’t really make someone new without them being similar to someone else. Instead of thinking about other games, you should just make someone you feel your game needs.
