Bows are tricky. If they can’t 1 shot they don’t seem very good compared to sniper rifles. If they can 1 shot they seem really obnoxious.
Maybe a crossbow that shoots explosive rounds.

Thing is, what will it do? Personally I wouldn’t mind what amounts to a hipfiring Sniper Rifle, as long as you can’t dry fire it to get super easy headshots like in TF2 or Overwatch.
But it would need a lot more to offer than just being a bow.

That is what I’m worried about, making it like Hanzo just because it isn’t as effective as a bullet…completely missing people but the game registers it as a headshot
Well, I am of the opinion bows should be more like tactical gear, firing arrows that do different things, rather than be a straight up gun but…whatev
Love getting 1 hit killed in OW by a scatter arrow that’s aimed at my feet or in my general direction, plz add Bow SD.
The bow could have some interesting abilities other than just simply 1 hit killing people.
It could shoot an arrow that disrupts/warps audio in an area or something causing confusion and missed, or misdirected audio queues.
It could be pinned into a wall and used as a stepping platform. This may break some current map designs, and would need some alternations to be made… (mostly bug proofing and removing some invisible walls) but would also open up for a lot of interesting parkour opportunities. Could potentially be limited to the person who fired the arrow due to whatever tech they are using, giving only that merc the ability to step on the arrows.
It could be able to target an enemy and fire a seeking arrow that does some poison damage (or damage over time) to an enemy. Poison could be countered by getting healed or you could out right avoid the arrow by taking cover before it hits you due to its travel time.
Maybe if the person dies while still under the effect of poison they also can’t be revived either.
It could shoot an arrow that can inflict a type of disabling debuff that prevents hit targets to use their abilities for a while.
I could shoot a plasma arrow that that while has a short life cycle and AoE range, has the ability to spread to other enemies and continue/reset the life cycle with each jump.
It could shoot a very fast arrow that does not have an arch, and can be bounced off of walls indefinitely for about 3 seconds. Could be used to hit people around corners. Damage could scale if you get hit multiple times by the same arrow.
Clearly the bow wouldn’t have all of these mentioned abilities (probably even none of these).
Number of charges (arrows) and cool down time would vary depending on the ability. Maybe you only get 1 arrow so you have to think about what its going to be on the spot and make it count. It should be tactical, not cheap.
There is still a lot that could be done when it comes to making futuristic type weapons/abilities. They don’t even need to make sense, so long as you can explain it away with non-existent technical advances.
If the mechanic is fun, useful and doesn’t break the game, then you could make a new merc and base them around it.
Also, in my mind now I for some reason picture a futuristic bow that digitizes out of nothing (through whatever future tech) you fire a specially coded digital arrow with it, then the bow just fizzles back out of existence.
I Don’t understand why people keep on saying it would be like Overwatch, i was thinking the bow would be used with different arrows and not just 1 hit kill people. Many other games have bows in them like Crysis and Bf4. not just Overwatch

Also make sure you don’t add a merc with a grenade launcher or detonated explosives so you don’t copy junkrat, and you can’t add someone who places barriers or you could copy Orisa. With the amount if class-based shooters, you can’t really make someone new without them being similar to someone else. Instead of thinking about other games, you should just make someone you feel your game needs.
Just remember that Nader was out earlier than Junkrat and Turtle was delayed before Orisa or Mei came out.
No need to be similar… distinguished is better
I think Fistful Of Frags did the bow physics best.
All other video game bows act like crossbows, honestly. While in FoF it’s like throwing Javelin

Because the current crop of 12 year olds only know Overwatch and haven’t been around when those other games you mentioned were en vogue.
I think were getting something close to a bow with this new hunter person

There’s a discussion for Hunter already, no need for two threads about it http://forums.dirtybomb.com/discussion/38534/the-bow-crossbow-has-been-memed-into-db#latest
There’s been lots of “I told you so” threads revived. Keep on rubbing them in their faces!

I’m not sure what you mean. but there adding a bow in dirty bomb and i’m happy about it altho it looks like a crossbow there is something that i will like to use. i feel like later on in the game there going to add somone who uses a bow like a compound one.
You get one single clap for coincidentally guessing hunter
clap
no more, no less
