Bots - yea I know its been "sorta" answered, but p

This is a bit more of a technical followup to the previous thread.

I was wondering…

I heard that Ryan Feltrin is/was doing the work on the MP bots, and that they were playing basic RTCW quite well - nearly a year ago now.

And by the reply given to the previous post about bots in ET - they’re future in ET is SOMEWHAT uncertain.

I’m not trying to whip a dead horse here, but I would like to know: if they don’t make it in ET, can the working bots for RTCW be released??

Even if just the source code for them is released (and hopefully any tools/scripting that may have been created) - let the community take over and finish the work (and I know what I’m talking about here, I’ve been working on improving the Q3 bots for some time now - I for one would love to see bots in regular RTCW if nothing else!).

Its a lot easier to improve a bot that was properly integrated into the engine (by Feltrin), then to write one NEARLY from scratch (you could use the leftover Q3 bot source, and the RTCW SP cast AI as a start I suppose, but it would be a lot of mess and reinventing of the wheel to deal with, if good bots were already available).

I ask both as a 56k user, who can never seem to find a server that I can ping good to, and as an interested bot/AI programmer.

Don’t let them die!

Thanks.

This is just a shot in the dark, but SD is developing assets that are probably property of Activision or Id, so if BOTs do not make it into ET, Activision would most likely have the right to decide whether or not to release the code. After the game comes out, if there are no BOTs, you could ask Activision to release the code so the community can finish the BOTs. I’m hopeful BOTs will make it in
