Bots are making this impossible to play.

(Hubschrauber) #1

Well, I guess I’ll start with this. Hey guys, new here, been following Brink from day one. A new vid would come out and I’d watch it every day and yadda yadda. I was super pumped to get my hands on it, so you couldn’t imagine my excitement when I finally did. HOWEVER…some foreward.

I live out in the sticks so I don’t have any access to XBOX live. Single player is pretty much my only way to play unless I happen to go play at my girlfriend’s house (and you can guess how often I actually get to play online, so…bummer).

Anyhow, to be more on topic, the bots are ridiculous. Ally bots are clumsy and can’t take down enemies. Enemy AI is deadly accurate and efficient and will smoke me and any bots who are anywhere near me. I will say that I’m playing on Hard, which wasn’t bad at first, but I’ll address that in just a moment. Some bot issues I’ve noted :

1.) Ally and Enemy bots seem to behave differently. Mine suck, theirs are awesome.

2.) Why is it that I kill enemy after enemy after enemy and they just never stop coming when near an objective? How am I supposed to complete my objective if there are constantly enemies near the objective? If my allies can’t take down even one bot when working together, how is this possible to do? Just how are they getting there so quickly?

3.) Is there level scaling with bots? For example, are the bots easier to kill when I’m level one opposed to when I’m level 20?

4.) The two-star “Be more objective” challenge is impossible because of dodgy team AI. I blow the door, and miraculously manage to repair the generator, but the hacking just can’t be done because my team can’t possibly cover me.

Now before you say “It’s because you’re playing on Hard”, not so fast. I’ve been playing shooters since I was a young lad. Not only that, but I’m used to jacking up the difficulty. Easy is too easy, hard is just too hard.

TL;DR - Enemy bots seem overpowered for various reasons, ally bots seem underpowered, etc.

…but the whole reason for this post is this. Does anyone think there may be a patch released that addresses AI issues? I really, really hope so. I’ll have to return this game if not. While it IS what I thought it would be online, it isn’t what I thought it would be offline. and that’s all I got. Also, I apologize for writing a novel. It’s a bad habit of mine.

Honestly, that’s how it is… and yes it’s frustrating but it makes you better… trust me…

(Gamer2Gamers) #3

I have feeling their going to fix it then the bots on our side will be to elite and kill everything leaving us with nothing to kill - hopefully they balance it perfectly , also the bots are way to over powered and kill us ten times quicker then we can kill them.

The gaming formula for years has been “Make things possible, but make it really difficult within reason when on a higher difficulty.”

Nowadays, when you choose the hardest difficulty, they make it to where you must simply get fortunate to progress.

I must have played on Day 3: Snatch and grab ( I believe it is called ) about 20 times on Hard, just because when it would be time to get the security key and GTFO, the bots would track me down with maximum efficiency and then make sure I never got within ten feet of the key for the remaining 7 minutes of the match, ever again.

I would drop about three or four bots, including the medic, and somehow they’d come right back while I was dealing with the other four by myself. If my bots could just help me clear out the team, I’d have had that key back on the first or second try.

What am I to do? Turning down the difficulty would make sense, but I like knowing I’m fighting the hardest fight. It just has to be possible. Relying on bots to help me get the job done just ain’t gonna happen.

(Hubschrauber) #5

Ya know, g2g, I’d rather it be that way almost. I’d love for us all to be balanced, but that’s too much to ask. They HAVE to release a patch, or I’m gonna…I’m gonna whine. lol.

(Hubschrauber) #6

Also, while I’m at it, they need to just remove any form of level scaling if there is one. That would improve it greatly. Does anyone else agree?

(Grampa Murked U) #7

It doesn’t make you better it makes you frustrated. Games are supposed to be challenging all the while relaxing and fun. The bot stupidity made me turn the game off after 4 hours of frustration. That’s not the goal of the devs I assure you. In fact I’d go so far as to say I’d rather have a singing 10 year old from cod as a teammates. I could mute him and maybe just maybe he could actually cover me while I’m planting a bomb. In between 360 no scope spins that is.

I thought so too, but just switch to LIGHT body type, and when you get to the hack, plant the device and walk around the corner and camp next to the comms station. your progress meter still goes up, and for some reason the enemy doesn’t attempt to remove the hacking device.
Believe me I was screaming at the top of my lungs last night when I couldn’t do it, but I switched to LIGHT and finished in record time…

I agree though, FIX THE TEAM AI!!! it’s RIDICULOUS. half the time I’ll find my teammate at the spawn walking into a wall or standing there staring at his feet.

I understand making the opposing team tougher in order to balance the fact that there’s a Human controlled player (you); but making my teammates complete dumbasses isn’t really fair.

All in all, EVERY issue I have seen so far about this game, or heard people complaining about (Not you OP, i’m just referencing ppl in general) IS EASILY fixable.

I think everyone needs to just calm down, relax, and let the developers do what they do. Let them KNOW the issues you’re having, instead of flaming the community. The community has no way of fixing this problem, but the Dev’s do.

The question is… Will they. I got tired of waiting for HOMEFRONT to be “fixed”

(MF Maou) #10

The enemy AI being difficult isn’t that big of a deal to me. The fact that friendlies just stand around and occasionally provide a buff causes more problems than anything else. This is especially noticeable on escort objectives and delivering intel.

(Grampa Murked U) #11

My biggest problem is having NO bots cover me when I’m hacking.

EDIT : I still have faith in SD. They’ve been in the game for years. They can whip this thing into shape.

I actually thought about switching to a Heavy body type and using a gatling gun to clear out all the enemies myself before hacking, but that’s not even the biggest problem. Even when I do plant the device, the bastard engineer on their team comes over and gives it the blowtorch treatment. I can’t get them to leave it alone, and I can’t get them to stop shooting me.

but yeah, I might give the light body a try. Also, I didn’t mean to sound like I was flaming the community or anything. I remember hearing that they would look at the Splash Damage forums for advice on what to fix in their game, so I posted here in hopes that they would see this post and once and for all see that the bots need some positive adjustment.

I want to be an active part of this community and help others, as well as SD by providing feedback. You guys are pretty cool here, much better than most forums I’ve joined, so thanks for your guys’ feedback. Makes me feel better to know that I’m not the only one getting my ass beat by the enemy AI. It really is unbalanced, and if all of us keep at it, SD may catch on and release a patch that makes this game what we all know it was supposed to be.

(Hubschrauber) #13

This. Exactly this.

(Hubschrauber) #14

Time to play me some Brink and get mah Doom pack entered. Didn’t see it on the reciept. I’ll check on this thread later, but I encourage anyone who has bot issues to keep posting them in here. I’ll think of it like a compilation. Any new developments, BAM, right in this thread. That would be cool.

(SentencedToBurn) #15

Yeah dude, try the LIGHT body type. After countless frustrating failures with Medium and Heavy, I blazed through it in one go with LIGHT. Just make sure to forget the enemies and go STRAIGHT for the objective at the start, then Comms station, then objective, etc etc. Plan out your route. You should do fine. and Try that hack thing, where you plant it and then walk AROUND the corner (to the right) and crouch beside the comms station on the other side.

And no, you didn’t sound like you were flaming, on the contrary, you asked a good question.

Hope you can beat the challenge.

(Xerxes52) #16

The AI does need a lot of work.

In ET:QW the AI intelligence and skill were always equivalent (and friendly AI could actually get stuff done without hand holding), but in Brink the friendly AI is dumbed down and unskilled while the enemy AI is highly competent and possesses aimbot-levels of accuracy (even on easy! wtf?).

(Dr.Ricktofen) #17

Indeed this is mabey the #1 problem in Brink right now.

Ive been playing on easy for the most part because i heard how impossible they are, and the fact im playing on my ps3 slim which i don’t really play on, because my main ps3 is being fixed, so my progress on my slim does not matter much.

(MarkcusD) #18

Just have them cover me when I’m capturing an objective instead of wondering off to do whatever they do.

Tried about 10 more times since I was on here last.

I got to the hacking part each time, and yet again, my bot friends are so incompetent that I’m fighting the whole other team myself. Slide shooting, peeking around corners, cooking and throwing grenades, getting knockdown points, killing their medic(s) and engineer(s).

All this, and no matter what I do, I go around the corner after I start hacking and I see the bar start to be sucked dry around 50 percent. I put away my hack tool, run around the corner, knock him down and by that point I’m dead and gotta respawn because both my medics are having a teaparty somewhere, and the enemy team is using my skull as an ashtray while camping on our objective.

sigh…I love the shooting action, I love the style, I love the feeling of waiting for HE charges to blow up (fire in the hole in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, KABLOW), but if they don’t fix these bots, I’m gonna have to give up the ol’ Brink. :frowning:

I see no sane reason for them to have changed a formula that clearly worked. The way the bots are set up now, it simulates what it’s like to be really good at the game and be stuck with a team of seven year olds, taking on a team of people who are slightly better than you (if not equally talented).

Splash damage has created an excellent weight-loss product. I get so frustrated, I know I have to be burning calories.
