Bots are making this impossible to play.

good thread i am yet to buy this game but i will if the AI are good

(Hubschrauber) #22

Not to play salesman / anti-salesman, but if I had a do-over, I’d wait and buy it after I was assured the AI bots would do their job, and the enemy bots would be equal to your team bots.

It just gets too frustrating. You know, like, spit on the floor of your own house kind of frustrating. Not that I’ve done that while playing Brink…but back in my Ninja Gaiden II days, I won’t lie, it happened a few times. Yes, I am ashamed. and no, I normally don’t behave in such a way.

thank you, thats what i will be doing, it looks like it could be an extremely fun game and lol a game has never made me done that yet but i have broken a few controllers before :stuck_out_tongue:

If I remember correctly, Wedgewood said something along the lines of letting the player be the “hero” of the game (more like one man army), and not letting the bots take your glory. I really would like to meet the people who complained about bots taking their glory.

Sadly this doesn’t really make you better cause you don’t learn teamplay, you just learn how to rambo and oftentimes act on the stupidity of your bot enemies (hey Mr Bot I’m hacking like 1 feet away from you and you look the other way for 10 seconds).

I was going to write about this later together with other stuff, but I might as well tell SD now:

Bot teammates are ****ing terrible.
I realized why they suck so much when playing Terminal as Security: They focus on secondary objectives way way too much!
Start a game on Terminal as Security now (on hard), do the first two objectives and then try the last. It’s so ****ing hard because while there are always 4+ enemies standing at the Data Key your team is off to do useless stuff. What you literally hear 90% of the time is “I’m going to capture the X command post”, “Enemy is taking/took our command post”, etc.
They fight for the goddamn command posts all the time while I have to rambo to the objective!

Same for Container City last objective as Security. There were 4 bots gathering at the Market Barricade when it was about to blow up. Then when it blew up they didn’t push through but instead went back. Probably to do some other useless secondary objective while I have to to the main objective on my own.

Also since I look at the bots are doing I have observed on several occasions how they’re just running to no-man’s land and going back to the spawn to change class! Wtf bots, you never fight with me!!

Some objectives are only possible cause the enemy bots sometimes are extremely stupid and don’t focus on the main objective as well or don’t see you when you are 1 feet away hacking or something. But mostly they outnumber you and you don’t stand a chance.

So SD please check the priority on some of the objectives the bots choose, cause clearly changing class or fighting over command posts isn’t all that helpful when you have to deliver something.

Also hack objectives are mostly horrible as well, but that’s also because they just take too ****ing long and I will question that later.

man that pisses me off when they only go for the secondary objective and you’re literally getting mauled down and just when you think they’ve done their little obsessive secondary objective you hear “THE ENEMY IS TAKING OVER OUR COMMAND POST” and in your head you’re like FRIG this CRAP! It’s just mind boggling stupid and it makes me wonder sometimes if they play tested this because how can that get past anyone trying to do single player.

Where in the dictionary of gaming dictionary does it state that bad teammates makes you frustrated? :stuck_out_tongue: (That’s a joke… in fact, where’s the gaming dictionary? :?)

Taking a game developing course, I learned: When developing a games difficulty, you want it to be passable, but the perfect game, would be a game that has that sense of frustration, so the gamer is challenged, but not to the point to where they just want to quit and go on Metacritic and give the game a 1 and say it’s broken. So it should be Splash Damages goal to make a game that’s fun, however, when on hard, the game is no cake walk and it pushes the player to do well.

Now, if your bots on your team suck, and aren’t doing their objective, why not invite your friends to help you? Don’t have friends/their offline? You can supply yourself with whatever class you need to complete the objective, and if that takes to long, do your objective so the dull bots have an easier time doing theirs. Trust me, despite this sounding stupid, it actually has worked for me, and I have beaten the game on hard, WITH bots, if you play your class well… the bots aren’t that bad.

However, bot medics are retarded… I will concur… but then again so are people I’ve been on teams with.

Not… exactly, it depends on what your teaching yourself. If your a medic, and you healing you bot teammates and they just keeping moan down, your at least reviving them, and buffing them does work. I noticed the bots only suck as much as the other oppositions, however the oppositions actually works together, sometimes your friendly bots go rouge.

You can actually be good at the game, and take on multiple enemies… with buffs and working with teammates, and your friendly bots may not buff, you but this enlightened me (personally) that I need to find a strategy to taking on multiple bots, which was take command posts as a primary (PS I play 24/7 soldier), get my supply meter up, and use Molotovs, and grenades to distort the bots, and it made my job a lot easier, and I also use a light so I can’t take much heat before I go down.

That’s just the problemo for me man. No buddies to play with, because I don’t have xbox live. I’ve been an offline gamer since I can remember since I can’t get cable where I live. I play at my girlfriend’s occasionally but that’s all I get to do.

So, I’m stuck with my awesome bot team until sometime in the distant future. I know there aren’t many gamers out there like me, but I’d really like it if they’d fix the bots just for the sake of fixing them.

(Hubschrauber) #30

hahahah. I like the way you said that.

It’s funny how a game that focuses on team play forces you to go all Die Hard and lone wolf when they specifically say on the back of the booklet that “A team of lone wolves is sure to lose.”

Okay, then why did SD program my team bots to be just that?

(tokamak) #31

That’s weird, nobody made an issue about having to do everything in COD. The alternative is a game that plays itself.

(xGruvdogx) #32

Wanting a little support =/= wanting the bots to do everything for us.

(tokamak) #33

Well they do support you. But I understand that supporting bots can be equally as fun.

(Ragoo) #34

The difficulty of carry objectives or shipyard 1st obj as Security is beyong everything I have ever done in CoD. It’s just you against 4-5 bots with good aiming and then you still have to do the objective which in the case of shipyard takes forever.

(MF Maou) #35

The lag is pretty bad on 360.

(badfish4444) #36

The problem is that the bots are terribly unbalanced. I don’t care if a bot steals glory or not, the object is to take the objectives and progress through the board. If it’s me or a bot I dont care who plants the bomb or what not. I thought this game was not for the lone wolf, but thats the only way you can play single player or without a full team of player. Your team AI is too dumb.

Even on normal it can be tough. I started a lvl 1 resistance and in the middle of a fight watched an enemy AI medic self rez. So I am lvl 1 fighting lvl 20’s?

As an engineer you might as well not deploy turrets, but BB gun stands at least then it would make more sense for them to be so useless. The enemy AI dmg is scaled so beyond yours and your team mates that it is highly frustrating. They blow the turrents up in two bullets.

The biggest issue is that your team mate bots are so stupid. They stand around, charge into enemy fire to rez someone with out even looking up to to shoot the enemy first then rez. They don’t guard objectives which is the biggest IMO. It will be you and maybe 1 other guy against the enemy’s entire damn team.

The enemy AI is deadly accurate and precise. It’s like bin Laden when the navy seals stormed his compound and your not the navy seals. If SD could scale up your team AI or maybe if its possible patch in an AI difficulty option so that people fine with the way it is can leave it and those not can change it.

I understand that if you had a full team of players against these bots it would be much easier, but I don’t have 7 other friends that own brink or play when I can play the game. Me and my bro mostly have been playing it and on some maps it seems mostly like luck that we complete them.

The only sure tactic is to steal the command posts. The enemy AI goes insane when you take them and they send 2-3 guys to retake them and that keeps them from digging in at the objective.

Also, why is it that it seems like the enemy AI doesnt have a timer when they die? Everyone on my team has 20 seconds, but the enemy AI is at the objective in endless waves and capturing command posts and killing all of my team mates.

I love the game, I just feel that the AI needs some tweaking.

(Hubschrauber) #37

Umm…don’t know if serious…

In CoD, it is possible to do everything yourself, especially on Veteran. That’s the difference here.

In Brink, to complete most primary objectives in single player, you must put down your gun and turn your back to the enemy. No shooting back, just completing your objective. During this time period, you’re relying solely on your team AI to make sure you don’t die. and if they’re too busy staring at a pixel in a corner or getting filled full of holes by themself on another part of the map, how can they make sure you don’t die? It’s a toughy, I tell ya.

CoD is a different ballgame. You get to shoot back 95% percent of the time. Not this game my friend.

What does the = / = mean? I’ve never used it, and I haven’t seen that much.

So to me it makes your statement very ambiguous.
