Bodytype - Map - Playstyle

(Rubbaduren) #1

I have a subject I would like there being some discussion on. How do you play with the different bodytypes? How do you play the different maps?

I see a bunch of “heavy are useless”-threads, but I do not fully agree. In my oppinion, it seems that different maps “favours” different bodytypes, and the heavy has maps where they do good.

If any of you have any tactics that is working, and you would like to share, that would be appreciated. Here is my point of view:

Im currently at lvl 16, playing mainly as engineer/operative. Sometimes wish I had a soldier to play with, aswell as a medic (some medics seem to be very “lone wolf”-ers).

Heavy

The heavy does very well when there are few paths, and not very many long lines of sights. This makes the LMGs and the minigun shine, in my oppinion. I think its the aquarium, where security has to hack the “mainframe” (?). Been tearing it up with a heavy on this map. The way I try to play this map, is coming through the vent system or the hallway next to the commandpost, with my gatlung spun up. I also try to get the route where they are not expecting me, but I guess that goes for all bodytypes,

However, if there is alot of open space, the heavy stays out of cover for to long. This, plus the fact that they are the ones that is easiest to spot, usually makes the heavy (atleast in my experience), a dead man walking.

Light

The light has its maps to. The one I had the most success inn, is the final resistance map (where thay take of, cant remember its name) This is because there is alot of cover, and also easy to get behind the enemies (During the first objective, where resistance is supposed to destroy the door to get to the “hydro fluid”). The way I like to play the light, is to harrass the opposing team, perhaps getting one kill, but mainly getting attention to a spot where im no longer at. This is done most effective, if you first go with yout team, finding where the chokepoint is going to be, and where the enemy has their focus.

The light is good to “ninja” the objectives. Obviously, this is also what the operative is for, but sometimes the light can get past enemy lines without anyone noticing.

But as the heavy, if its alot of long lines of sight, it is easy to get killed. In narrow hallways, the light gets raped as well, if getting caught offguard.

Medium

Now, the light and the heavy has its strengths, but in my oppinion, if you have the wrong bodytype on the wrong map, it is hard to get a good game. The medium is the bodytype I always fall back on. It can be played almost the same way as the light (not getting to those “lights only places” ofc), and somewhat the same as the heavy.

Medium also has its own playstyle. When I play a medium, I find it good to slowly push towards an objective. I think this mainly is because its when you are at the medium - long range, that the ARs shine. And almost every map has areas that has to be held down, or atleast having a look at.

Summary

The medium is the bodytype that I do best with. There are maps where I would like to play as a heavy, and maps where I would prefer to be a light, but all maps can be played as a medium.

The fact that you have to leave a game to customize, can get very annoying. Im not sure if I would like the option to change bodytype in between matches though. It is a way for people to learn more about the diversity of each bodytype. Personally, I always end up playing the medium when im tired of feeling that I could have contributed more.

+1
it would be nice if we could change our body type during the game and it wouldn t change much the gameplay

I am not in favor of being able to change body type or being able to customize during the match. There’d be too much AFK if that were the case. There already is some AFK. On some maps like CC, an AFK will cause you to get trapped.

Right now I have 5 characters. All are light except one is a Heavy Soldier. I am also planning on creating a Heavy Medic. Heavy Medics are very helpful to a team. And I have fun with a Heavy Soldier with a Guntlung Machine Gun.

The rest are Light Body. Light allows you to move anywhere on a map which I really like. And attack quickly like a ninja. I like finding ways to Parkour up to enemies or around them. You can flank very fast with a Light.

I don t think that it would take too much time to change the body type if it s just that and if it can help overcoming the obstacles it would be fun to have that klind of choice however I too am against customizing the characters during the match

For fun i’ve been rolling a heavy engineer with the Gotlung and Drognav. Seems to cover all grounds =)

(Rubbaduren) #6

Beeing able to change bodytype mid-game wouldn’t be a good feature. What I was trying to ask in my post, was how you play with the different bodytypes.

(Corupt) #7

I prefer to use the medium type : can carry more “heavy” guns and have more health than the light one and it s easier to flank the foes , I tried the heavy medic you mentioned earlier for an hour or so and had a lot of fun even if it was kind of frustrating at first (used the heavy shotgun/carb-9 silencer and drum mag , chinzor/galactic drum mag and 2 assaut riffles carb 9 and another one) because I was constantly shot in priority but when flanking the opponment to rejoin the allies it was hella fun !!

You should at least be able to switch body types or buy abilities BETWEEN MAPS without being forced to leave the server

(Glyph) #9

^^^This.

You should be able to select your character at the start of every match. I would even be fine if the game did not allow you to edit your character or weapons but you should be able to change characters prior to leaving you spawn for the first time.

If there was a pregame lobby you could even do it there but that is another problem for another thread.

I agree with this. Not changing the bodytype on current character, but changing character would, in my oppinion, make each character more personal. If it was implemented that you cannot change bodytype at all (like the tattoos, face etc), but that might be a bad idea. Can see this idea getting flamed a bit :stuck_out_tongue:

QFT x 9000+

It’s ridiculous that you have to leave your game to do these things.

Now for the question.

I have found no use for the heavy. Although while I think his weapons can be fun, they’re just not practical against the other body types (I’m talking about light here)

I used the medium for the majority of my playtime. I fell in love with everything about the assault rifles. While not as quite as versatile as the light body type, they can use both assault
rifles and SMGs!

I now use the light. I adore their speed. Nothing like sprinting and strafing towards your target as he sprays his gun at you and you dodge his bullets in a crazed ridiculous fashion. I also really enjoy using the pistols now.

The Light out-performs the others IMO, being fast and therefore being hit less often makes up for the slight reduction in damage it can take. The only reason for not using Light is if you want to try the weapons the Light can’t carry.

I’m especially finding Medic’ing as Light is way easier than Medium, being able to rush in and revive / buff is a definate benefit, and it helps in firefights cos you’re harder to hit.

Working on a medium build soldier at present, want to max it out like my engineer. Don’t like the heavy, to slow and I die to quick as the light build. Although I might try again with my Soldier.

Liking the Carb 9 with drum magazine, front grip and iron sights. Teamed up with the Doom smg and taped mags for thoughs caught with your pants down moments.

Next build will be a jack of all trades I think as I spend a lot of time swapping when others refuse to change.

My first plan was always a Light Operative/Medic, and I’ve done that, and it’s AWESOME. I’m at level 17 (a tiny step short of 18), because I’ve had to respec a lot when I’ve been playing while sleep deprived, and picked up the wrong abilities and stuff. I’ve actually taken a handful of Soldier abilities as well as the Op/Med stuff, so I’ve got a good amount of flexibility as a 3-class character, and just pick which I’m more in the mood for, or which the team needs most.

(Rubbaduren) #15

What do you guys think ofnot beeing able to change bodytype when you have created a character? Or maybe locking the bodytype at lvl 15 or something? Now, everybody talks about “my light medic, heavy soldier osv”, but you can change that whenever you want.

Im playing a medium engineer/operative. Changing the bodytype around a bit, but like the medium the most. I have 1 point in soldier, and thats the extra mag buff. Im using an AR, and they run out of ammo so quick. Mostly playing competetive gamemode, theres usually no more than 1 soldier. Going out of ammo often.

No. Just no. Heavy medics are bad, trust me, i tried. iF you wanan loen wolf and buff yousefl heavy medic fine, but if you want to be a team player, “that guy bust a lung” type of medic that actually helps then light is the only valid option(maybe medium)

Hi -

Great topic! The correct answer in all cases is:

  • Light body type
  • CARB-9
  • Medic or Engineer

(Ziggus) #19

I’ve been playing around with a build

Heavy

Engineer

Chinzor (You can use the gothling too)

Lobster gl.

I basically try to knock them down with the lobster. Then, switch to the chinzor before they can get up. Sometimes, you’ll be able to knock a whole group down and maybe even kill one of them before running for cover. Knocking people down in front of your turret is also fun

Here’s another variation

Medium

Soldier

Lobster GL

Your favorite SMG with a speed sling

Same tactics as before but soldiers have Molotovs and flash bangs giving the even more “crowd control” If you choose, you can play him as more of a support character by focusing more on knock people down and blinding them for your team mates to finish

Both of these builds work best on maps with lots of tight spaces like Reactor. Both also seem to get a high number of kills. Probably because the splash damage finishes off wounded enemies.

@ Ziggus:
I haven’t played much as soldier yet, but tried out a tip I got of this forum:

The underslung granadelauncher. The grenade you shoot, is the frag grenade, meening you have many buffs for this as a soldier. Combined with the molotov, thats great crowdcontrol. You might have tried this, but it seemed as something that would suit your playstyle
