Bodytype - Map - Playstyle
@ Ziggus:
I haven’t played much as soldier yet, but tried out a tip I got of this forum:

The underslung granadelauncher. The grenade you shoot, is the frag grenade, meening you have many buffs for this as a soldier. Combined with the molotov, thats great crowdcontrol. You might have tried this, but it seemed as something that would suit your playstyle :)
I have tried and I’m thinking I’ll probably work it into a build at some point.

No, no and no. Sometimes a player wants to try something new or see how a body type plays. Forcing this choice would be absolutely horrible, especially if you had to delevel to 15 in order to change.

(Rubbaduren) #23

Did not meen that you couldn’t change [B]until[B] lvl 15, but that you could change bodytype when you’re in lvl 1-15, and at lvl 15 you made the choice. I dont mind it beeing as it is now, but I think it would give each character more “personality”. I know this idea would get alot of hate if it were implemented, so I don’t think it would be smart to add it.

Edit: Misread your post. That would be horrible. Lets get back on topic: Playstyle with the different bodytypes on the different maps!

Just switched over to a light Soldier class, almost rank 4. A absolute blast and the speed is a Defo bonus, at least on Container City.

How do yoy play that character? Using the molotov to knock many enemies down, mopping up kills, or trying to draw attention to yourself, giving time for your team to complete objectives? Iæve been trying the light as a behind enemy lines assassin, but never had to much success. Playing a light, my best games come when I for the most part stck with my team, and get flank around when we come to a chokepoint (mostly on the excort missions)

Engineer is much better for behind enemy lines work. He’s sure to have weapon buff, and his mines and turret can either be left at objectives first, or you can create traps at CPs or between the front lines and enemy spawn.

I think soldiers work best for choke point battles, where your team needs ammo and the flashbangs, molotovs and grenade can catch multiple enemies and deny them cover. I play light almost exclusively, and use carb for cqb maps and bulpdaun for maps loght sec tower where you often have to take long range shots. I like the sea eagle for backup and when I have the carb as primary it also works for range work.

Basically the same as you, I always play to buff so keeping everyone stocked up with ammo takes a good chuck of your game. The speed Defo helps with flanking maneuvers and I’m not one to keep banging my against the same brick wall, lol. It’s great to almost take out the entire team because they are looking the wrong way.

I found it pretty good on the offensive to though, grenade, petrol or flash in first then storming at them, Carb 9 at full chat. As soon as they return fire drop into a slide, the speed of everything generally means I win more than I lose. On Container City, the other team were to slow so they pretty much got raped, so I was show boating come the end of the round.

I play engineer most of the time. The most important ability I have to say is the mine. Especially when you can deploy 2 at the same time. Most players dont die of 1 mine (maybe a light?) but two finishes everyone off. Yu can also hold down 2 entrances/routes. When the mine goes off, you know where the enemy is, and rush over and finish him off. Same thing is good for offence. The turrett can, if placed correct, do heavy damage. I cant seem to find the best spots for it though.

Edit: Haven’t played soldier much yet, but hear good things about the flash

Engineers are best played at the front lines. Handout kevlar to who needs it, buff guns, set up turrets as backup fire, and between spawn waves push forward and set up mines in key areas to thin out attackers. To go beijdenemy lines is selfish and “lone wolfing” it, you hand out the two best buffs in the game…stay with your squad.

Heavy medic is best medic. Insane amount of supplies, and careful use of the auto run when you buff someone negates your movement penalty as you bounce between teammates. Your higher health makes you a sturdier target that helps your team stay alive longer. Just rememer to duck and heal yourself when needed bcause they WILL be trying to kill you!

Soldier, chokepoint buster. Works well with all types but I prefer medium for the extra supplies over a light because im always tossing munitions. I can see the light advantage for a flank+ molotov.

Operative is the only “behind enemy lines” guy. Always be a light unless you have a master plan, cause you need to bust out when things go bad. Honestly, disguising, waiting foe the enemy to all push up, then hacking ALL their turrets at their backs can raise some serious hell. Your goal is harassment, confusion, and recon. Also, caltrops are THE best defensive tool. I shouldn’t have to explain why.

Best use of turrets imo isto place them in hiding so they can just see an objective - hopefully the enemy won’t see it when going for the objective and get gunned diwn when it reacts. Fir example in aquarium at the door objective, you can place it between the cylinders, or on shipyard’s hack objective inside the doors facing the controls…

Plopping them down at a choke also works, it’ll either fire at enemies or draw fire from them. If they can also ambush enemies, all the better. Say on shipyard’s crane objective place one at the back of the courtyard so enemies coming in from the underground stairs take it in the back when they assault the crane. You can also place it looking at somewhere you don’t want enemies o seek cover. Try not to place it where your own guys stand, stray nades will disable it, and place it so enemies can’t shoot it before they’re already fighting.

Bottom line, turrts are only good against distracted enemies.

The final use is simply as an alarm that will also delay the enemy a bit… See it fire or take damage, you know someone is coming.

I have to say building new characters is a big and fun part of the game, the different play styles keeping it fresh. After my Engineer and Soldier im going to mix it up a bit next time. I always seem to find myself in the, if you want a job done properly, do it yourself mode. So I need a build to suit everything.

@pete: I agree that you should stay with your squad. But there are lot of scenarios where running solo around should help the team aswell. This doesn’t mean you should run to enemy spawn, simply fighting the enemies from another angle, making their fokus change. I think it is aquarium, where the escort goes through a room where an health command post is. As an engineer, going around and laying mines in the enemies easiest route to that room, then attacking the “campers” in the back, can create a momentum from the attacking team. This doesn’t mean that you’re seperated for your team for a very long time.
