BLOCKOUT WEDNESDAYS: Canary Wharf, Battersea and 'Map 6'

(Mustang) #21

On map 6 I like the two secondary objectives, not too close to either team and not completely centralised so the control of these has the posibilty to swing between both teams. I don’t like that the primary objectives are so close together.

Battersea I like how the paths change on the second objective as it completes, I also like some of the nice trickjump opportunities. I don’t like that the ladder climb direction is controlled by W and S rather than mouse look direction, it’s also pretty clunky getting on and off the ladder.

Map 6 is sick with all the roofs you can go on, I love this kind of action where you can “solo-****” 5 or 6 enemies with a bit of luck. Also the areas are more clearly defined and I really love the style. The helicopter zone is sick !

I like Map 6 and Bettersea, Map6 with all roofs and Bettersea for obj

(INF3RN0) #24

The roofs are really great on Map6 definitely. Roof tops, ladders, windows- keep it coming!

(Ashog) #25

More ramps are needed in close quarters (not only the open area slopes like on battersea).

Battersea :Had a chance to spec the map tonight what I can say Very nice map, lots of work in there GJ.should be interesting to see how it will go
Liked the container open near consoles ,should be one of my best DB map.
Again Very nice ,Who’s the author (s) ?

I have a big problem with Battersea and it’s the container piles around the 2nd objective. Right now they look horribly wrong as the arrangement seems physically impossible and makes no sense from a backstory point of view (who would have setup these containers that way and why?). At the moment it looks as if a couple of giants have been playing Jenga with these containers, pulling one out here, pushing one in there…

This is not Brink’s Container City where things were thrown together and held with twine and luck, this appears to be an installation under CDA control (or which was until recently) and so should be somewhat organized.

My first though was to suggest cutouts in the container walls, ripped out doors, etc. to make man-made passages inside those container piles, but that suggests (again from a backstory point of view) that someone went to a lot of efforts to build paths inside these container piles for no obvious reason. So my second though was why not replace some of these containers with flat racks? These are basically wall-less containers used for items that are over-sized or need to be lifted from the top.

By throwing empty flat racks in strategic places and varying their sizes (like standard containers, these come in 20’ and 40’ long versions), it should be possible to recreate paths very similar to those we currently have without pulling pieces out of alignment. Throw in more empty racks and some with pieces of heavy gear lashed on them elsewhere in the piles and it would look a lot more natural.

lol that looks well unsafe.
but its blockout. that means they are testing the flow and spaces and objectives. not how pretty it looks.
whats the point of aligning 100s of brushes perfectly when you might just change it all a week later.

can you imagine spending weeks on detailing. then realise it doesnt actually work in tests and you have to delete it all.

SD are often lacked on the ’ would it Make sense’ in their maps… seem not a priority:(

I agree it’s only a blockout, but I hope they have given some thoughts as to how to realize it eventually. I’ll flip your argument around: can you imagine creating a perfect layout after weeks of testing and fine-tuning the blockout only to realize you can’t model it without it looking completely out of whack? It’s a block out, fine, but why not use the proper blocks (quite literally in this case…) from the start?

These servers are now open for the night!

Hope to see some more feedback from you all

(RasteRayzeR) #32

Meh, gonna miss that, stupid exams to do …

(Kiris) #33

Anyone from NA willing to setup a time to meet on the server? I’m willing to give it a go anytime after 7PM PDT.
Would be nice to get enough people for (at least) a 3v3. Although it seems like there’s very few NA players in the alpha atm. :frowning:

(Jonny_Hex) #34

Fishbus.

Don’t get me started on those containers.

Positive rep for you trying to get something going in NA. Hope players are willing. For all the Euros who agree, give this man a positive rep!
