Bit of a silly one........

My downstairs PC has a SB 128 pci in it, now in radar whenever I go and stand beside (say in spectator mode) the whatever it is covered in the tarpaulin outside the axis second spawn point, I only get the “rain drops falling on tarpaulin” sound through one speaker so whenever I turn my body/head I get no sound effect. I hope everyone understands what I’m trying to say.

Now, Ok the sound is coming through my telly as is the picture but the speakers are set to stereo and whenever I don’t get the sound effect in question I do get other background noise.

My sound quality doesn’t come into the equation either as all settings are the same.

The same thing happens when looking at the blown up and on fire tank on the other side of the fence in front of the two guns in oasis.

The win XP driver for this card is dated 2002 and I can’t find an update for love nor money. Any ideas people ? Thanks.

I’d recommend putting your money towards a new sound card. You could put your love to a new sound card, but that’s probably not healthy and could give you a nasty rash.

The only time I’ve seen this is when I’m running the game with hardware acceleration disabled in WinXP. That’s on a SB Live card. You could try playing with those settings and see what turns up.

When you get time matey, could you check out what I have come across above, it’s one of those things that you’d never notice unless you looked for it.

With regard gettin’ a new sound card, I shouldn’t really have to as the good old (origonal and best) soundblaster awe 32 was able to do 3D sound so this bigger brother IMO should do it as well. With the AWE 32 you had to set the 3D up in device manager but there is no such facility with the 128.

There is an onboard AC97 but I’d sooner toss off an alsation than use one of those tinny even on £100 speakers "sound"chips.

edit - thats unfair they are free.

I don’t have a SB 128 and have no problems.

One thing to double check, make sure that you don’t have your sound setup to work through 4 speakers. My girlfriend had a similar card and somehow managed to get set for 4 speakers and it reeked havoc with her sound in several games. The again, that was in Win98, not sure if it carries over to XP, but thought I would mention it.

ummm… Please explain why you are playing ET on your Telleh

As I have recently acquired twin baby girls who are about to take over my computer room at night (at least) so I put an AMD 1800+, 512MB ram, 60 GB HDD, SB 128, 48x24x48 DVD CR-RW, leadtek fx5200 128MB tv out together from bits I had lying about and some new bits I ordered. Upstairs and downstairs are now networked with upstairs being the internet host.

I thought it would be a good idea to hook it up to the 32" television and play ET on the BIG screen, whilst also saving a lot of space. It works very well but will never have the same resolution as a good monitor and it took some fine tweaking to enable text to be seen clearly (I’m on it now).

So the tv out card is using the s video lead which is plugged into a SCART adaptor which also has two connectors (left and right) which my SB 128 is plugged into, hence sound and vision on the telly  .

The sound isn’t set up for 4 speakers either as the windows driver does not cater for the different speaker setups that the creative drivers do.

Also whenever I install the creative drivers from the CD no errors come up but sound ceases to function, so I tried to update these creative drivers but the update says that I have no SB installed at all. The same things happen with the microsoft drivers (which I can accept, but can’t except when the creative ones are installed).

It’ not that big a deal and to be honest I’m gonna forget about it as as I’ve said you really don’t notice it unless you look for it. Ah well, thanks for the input lads, it was very much appreciated.

I tried playing ET on my downstairs PC with TV-out also but there was a certain problem which was seeing Allied Grenades that were on the floor (I couldn’t)

Laugh? I almost died (well I did actually, lots of times) so I had to change my name to avoid embarrassment

It is tricky man but if your telly has several pre-sets for the screen like, soft, natural and rich then you can usually set up and store the one called “user” to highest contrast settings and whatever else it takes to get a good pic.

For some reason or other (it just happened one day) the alias that I chose to play “I’m gonna get me arse handed to me on a plate 'cos I’m playing ET on the telly” refuses to load up any more, so I have to play under the real me. So if at any time you’re playing and you find that you’re totally ripping the piss out of me and I have zero chance against ya, it’s because I’m playing on the telly and whenever I get back to my big machine upstairs I’m going to rip off yer fucking arms  .

My TV is a cheapo widescreen so that’s probably the problem together with it being composite video.

I usually just put (On TV Downstairs) at the end of my normal name to let everyone know I’m an easy target, lol
