They would be silly not to do one.
Beta Testers?
Look at planetside 2 ! I participate to the beta and now i’m addicted ! (for how long we dont know) But you have to make something strong to get your community back ! Last chance to go splashdamage ! Let’s see !
+1
I agree. Sometimes the betas and demos are the best way to generate some positive interest in a game before it is released. I remember RTCW’s demo got released and I was hooked. Picked up the game the minute it was on a shelf @ my local KMart. YES. KMART for my fellow NA friends. LOL.
The game is going to be free to play, beta invites will be floating around like nothing eventually.
Beta’s can be great when done like Star Craft 2’s. Feedback on bugs and slight tweaks for balance are good, maybe some new suggestions here and there but sometimes I feel the community can take over and the game changes too much from the developers initial idea.
ET:QW had 2 betas, did it not? I remember at least playing two (FilePlanet?) betas of it. Sewers and Valley.
Great, great fun. Not entirely sure how helpful those were to Splash Damage, though.

Yes right, it had 2 closed betas and even a demo for everyone.
I think betas are always very useful, since the developers got so many feedback. Especially this long beta time really helped to shape ETQW into a great game.
They were actually open betas, just with ‘limited’ keys available, if it were closed they wouldn’t have been cups advertised all over the net for them cause of NDA and that, also think beta 2 or was it the demo which was used at Quakecon?
Also I remember the betas were treated like demos, lots of people didn’t understand the game was still in development and the game got a lot of grief because of that.
Closed beta with limited key is the best way for a beta, just with some players who know why they are here.
Public beta are treated like demos as say chris. and not really the best way imo.
I’d definitely want to join in a beta (Especially since the game is going to be F2P anyway). However, I won’t start yelling: Gibe me Beta nao! When done properly, a Beta can make the difference between mediocre and extraordinary. The only fear I have is when people don’t take the Beta seriously.
Or think it’s a demo rather than a beta and start complaining about bugs instead of reporting them coughETQWcough
They wont have a beta, they like to make **** games like Brink and Quakewars ( glitchy ) as can be… Instead of Beta testing it, then releasing after correctly patching and updating the game before release. ET was decent, but even it was not up to par with RTCW. It was dumb downed for bad gamers. Only Valve makes decent video games anymore with a learning curve.
TF 2 was way better than ET
The game was more faster paced
Took way more teamwork
Maps were way more balanced
Rockets in mid air took way more skill than aiming a gun in burst via hip
There is no revive, only a respawn
I was Cevo-P in TF2 and Cal-invite in ET so yes, I was experienced in both games. However, dropping 40 kills in ET, using panzers ( LOL ) satchels ( LOL ) mines ( LOL ) take less skill than hitting Mid Air rockets, or killing uber heavies controlling flag points, controlling “map items” in ( TF 2 )
Unless you played a game at a high level, than your opinion is irrelevant because you dont even know what to look at in game other than
Install
hold mouse 1
press forward or go prone… just like your typical xbox gamer.
Ahh aimology, brings back memories of those good old rtcw days…

And yet you take time to make your second post on this forum! See, you are on the hook admit it!
Still dunno why people take rtcw as “THE” skill game as quake3 (for exemple) was wayyyy more fast paced and hard to master IMO.

Because IMO rtcw was way more fun because of the classes and objectives. Purely skill based Q3 was harder, but I didn’t have as much fun in Q3 as in rtcw.
