beta: pk3check2

(SpaceMarine) #1

hey there…

i just wanted to pimp my program pk3check2 in a public forum, so i will start here

what is pk3check2, you ask? visit this page and it’ll show you all about it.

note: I know it’s buggy, but that’s why it’s a beta (meaning not final or bug-free).

pk3check supports Quake III Arena, Quake 2 and Enemy Territory right now (the only games i could remember the path organizations for at the time). support for other games will come as an xml file update.

hope you’ll like it

After i read your page, i don’t know yet…“What is the function of this tool?”
Sorry i’m not so good in english, can you explain in simple words.

PS: Or specially for me in german…because i think you come also from german!?

(NdK)

actually, i don’t know a lot of german, but i’ll try to explain it in english:

pk3check2 is a tool that checks a server-generated list of pak (map media) files (.pk3, .pak, .pk2, .wad, etc) and compares them to the paks you already have on your machine. Then, once you have that list, you can attempt to download the maps you don’t have.

hope that helped

Sorry, but i’m really stupid! :disgust:
Which “sever-generated list” and which “media-files” ???

Is this the same like the Autodownload-Function in RtCW/ET?

@ sniser:
Thx for translation

(NdK)

this is somewhat like the auto-download function but differs in a few ways:

A) you don’t have to be in-game
B) saves on game-server traffic
C) allows file hosters to distribute maps more efficiently.

btw, media packs are simply .pk3 files (i like calling them media, becuase you don’t necessarily need to put a map in a pk3)

Aaaaaah…now i understand!

You can say, it’s a “Non In-Game Media-File Download-Tool”
