Beta 2: Crisper & Smoother

Gotta say big well done to SD - the diference between the betas is huge.

I found Sewer to slow down fairly often, plus aiming was difficult having to shoot in front of your target not to mention the cluttered HUD.

However, now the gameplay is almost perfect. Aiming is effortless (i enjoyed a lovely camping getting 1-shot kills wth the railgun on the high mountain above the Strogg base). It’s great being able to hide certain parts of the HUD, those objective arrows that swung around the edges of your screen really put me off, and im kinda thinking about hiding the fireteam window.

The only issue I could find is the GDF sniper rifle, since the railgun didn’t have bullet-drop it took me a while to get any hits with the sniper file, plus the scope bob seems more eratic than the railgun’s

But I must say again - big congrats to the whole team.

ah - well there you go.

from what I can work out - shooting from GDF base to the peak of tunnel hill, the drop is about 1 player’s height. I was aiming for the head, but hitting the ground.

It doesn’t drop but it does aim low :wink:

To be fair, the only time I got any kills was if I put the top of the bottom vertical line on someone’s head. (With GDF’s 50 cal.) (Which made the dot about a quarter of an inch above their head.)

Everyone pretty much assumes that there’s bullet drop. At least on the server I played on tonight.
Kind of a cool feature we all thought…

speaking of snipers, they should have a bit more range, i was sniping another sniper on the tunnel arch and i was on the hill near the strogg base near the shield gen. i shot him 10 times, he shot me 6 times, my hp was like 70, he said his was 60… emm, not very good range.

Yeah I downloaded the second beta last night and I was definitely impressed. I was a GDF “Engineer” and was rollin through the Strogg base and 2 Strogg came out of a doorway and I thought, “Ugh, I’m dead might as well put up a fight though I guess” and I half heartedly started to shoot these two which I dropped in less than half a clip. I can actually hit things I shoot at now! The game is gettin tons better, grats.

Wow, so this is a major improvement over Beta 1?

Ugh, I can’t imagine how bad Beta 1 must have been then.

I love seeing people hop on the Strogg Jetpack thing and zooming around, avoiding fire because they appear to teleport around. I love close combat fights that appear to be a slideshow on the network side.

I suggest you fire whomever you have doing your netcode code, because that’s what’s going to turn away gamers in droves. It’s awful.

I haven’t seen a major multiplayer PC game with netcode this bad out of the box in a long time. Doom 3 / Quake 4 sucked online, but this here takes the cake.

buy PC or net, i have no trouble(except some lag sometimes), the game is very smooth.
rec some demo where you see some “slideshow” warping, then i might beleave you.

It seems that I am one of the “fortunate” ones that didn’t got any major fps problems: both beta1 & beta2 with patches run smooth on my machine. Only thing I suffer from is the occasion lag, but that didn’t stop me from bringing down murka flying his tormentor a few times :smiley:

Yepp I think its the servers that lag a lot. The other option is that, well face it guys, your computer is just not up to the task of running QW fast and smooth. After all it is still a Beta, not a final version.

No problems with fighting or killing here though. Even as a sniper I totallly own (which is not good because the snipers are too powerful imo… most kills are one-shot-kills). I can even pick players that are over at the shield area as a GDF sniper from the tunnel-rock. Just have to snipe carefully.

I sometimes have the feeling that the railgun isnt as accurate as it should be though. The GDF sniperrifle shot too deep in Beta1, it was a bug, but its fixed now I think.

the occasional lag eats up my decoys often :frowning:
other than that, and the game is perfect, just a new gfx card and ill enjoy the game even more.
