I get around 10 fps average with that card
20 - 30 fps in buildings with no one shooting or making explosions
In heavy battle with 'nades all over the place i get around 5 fps

Que? Do you mean with a GF4 Ti4200 128MB? If you really get such poor performance with that card then the rest of your system must be a 286!!!
Either that or you’ve attempted to overclock it and fucked the card in the process (happened to a friend of mine
)
I have 650mhz athlon and gf2pro with 32 mb memory. I just recorded a demo in 16 player oasis map with intense action. My average fps was 42,5… I have all settings at low though.
Agrado could you tell how much more fps gf 4200 gives compared to gf2 once you get that card. To make a timedemo do the following. write /set syncronousclients 1 in console then /record (demoname) and to stop recording write /stoprecord. Write /timedemo 1 in console and play the demo using /demo command. Open the console at the end of the demo and check fps.
Getting this one next week, pretty good for £150

he will get more fps, you won’t
with that cpu you’ll get 2 fps, maybe 3 fps more a second.
Before this I played with a GF2 pro 32 mb too so I know.
P3 600 + GF2 Pro 32 mb --> P3 600 + GF4 Ti4200 128 mb = 5 fps more MAX!

Do you mean you had all settings at max with gf2pro? Maybe even aa and af turned on? I would buy new graphics card for my system that could do 10@7 with 4x antialiasing and 16 tap anisotropic filtering max settings without performance hit with my cpu if I could get one for under 50 euros. But it seems until time for those prices comes I have to buy new cpu, mb and memory for gaming. Unfortunately I have student budjet.
my settings were:
800 x 600, 32 bits color and textures
most of the graphics detail settings to normal (or average)
no AA, no AF
played on a P3 600 mhz
The same settings on a GF2 pro 32 mb or a GF4 Ti4200 128 mb gave me no more than 5 fps extra. Trust me, upgrade your cpu first…
OK… My shiny new Inno3D GeForce4-Ti4200-8x 128MB turned up today. Plugged it in, installed latest drivers from www.inno3d.com, no problemo.
Run ET… and… NO CHANGE WHATSOEVER. It’s basically EXACTLY THE SAME as the damn GeForce2 I had before. I still get 5-10fps on many areas of the map.
I tried changing the “AGP Aperture” in the BIOS settings from 128MB to 256MB. I have no idea what this does, and it made no difference anyway.
I have the latest drivers for the gfx card.
Does anyone have any suggestions of why this card in my computer performs an order of magnitude worse than it does for other people?
The computer is a Dell Dimension 8100 with a 1.4GHz processor and 512MB RAM (I had to upgrade from 256MB already to make ET go from taking 70 seconds to load a map to taking 40 seconds or so).
If you provide more information about your system I might be able to help locate the bottleneck. I need to know makes of the following:
CPU
Motherboard
Memory
I need to know what speed your motherboard’s FSB runs at and what speed your memory is.
What programs do you run in addition to ET? How many icons sit in your system tray? Have you defragged your HD recently? Have you sone a full virus scan recently?
Have you the latest drivers installed for your motherboard?
Goto the device manager (Right click my computer, select hardware->device manager) do any of the items have a yellow exclamation amrk by them?
What other devices are plugged into your system?
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dsleest/specs.htm says:
1.4GHz Intel Pentium 4, 256 kB L2 cache
Intel 850 chipset, 100MHz clock, 400Mhz “data rate”, PCI 33Mhz, AGP 66MHz,
3, 4 now the stupid nvidia thing has stuck itself there. MSN Messenger, Digiguide and Nokia PC connector.
No, although that doesn’t affect the map-loading speed. I don’t see how it could affect the fps?
No (McAfee expired, and there’s no way I’m renewing the damn evil thing), but trust me, there’s no virus on my computer.
Don’t know, I will check the Dell web site.
Yes, “PCI device” and “Unknown device” under “Other devices”.
Nothing much. Network card.
No (McAfee expired, and there’s no way I’m renewing the damn evil thing), but trust me, there’s no virus on my computer.
Go to www.grisoft.com and download AVG Antivirus. It’s free, it works (well it’s caught every virus I’ve ever encountered, and I know quite a few other people that use it and have had no problems)
Wahey! No need to investigate further. Thanks for the advice, I think it was indeed the motherboard drivers. I went to the Dell website and installed the “chipset drivers” and the mysterious “PCI device” has gone away. And now I get railgun at 35fps when at “full” graphics settings!
This kicks so much ass! I don’t have to guess where people are! I can fire at full rate! I can jump! Muhahaha! I am gonna kill every motherfucka in the world!
:drink: :drink: :drink: :moo: :moo: :moo:
I have a gf4 ti4200 with a tiny OC to 250/520, 512mb pc133 ddr sdram and an amd athlon xp 2100+ (1.73ghz), playing with all eyecandy at max and 32bit color, 800x600. Constant 90+ fps indoors, 40-60 outdoors (of course radar and railgun have slightly less due to rain and snow).
both Mr Chris and Agrado can get much better fps with their cards. You both have the same bottleneck - your memory. You both have single data rate RAM.
When you get some spare money, I urge you to get a new mobo and some DDR ram to fill it. You will reap the rewards.
I have a very similar system to Agrado, but with DDR266 ram. In indoor areas my fps goes over 250 (when uncapped) and in outdoor areas with maximum action going on, I get around 35-60.
Side note: Never, EVER assume you don’t have a virus. I consider myself very security savvy and run a firewall 24/7, never open unscanned files and have a constant virus monitor scanning all new/modified files which is updated daily. Last week I figured I should run a full scan because I hadn’t for about 3 months. It found 19 viruses. The little bastards get into your system in the day or two it takes for virus companies to build protection against them. There is no such thing as a virus safe system. Especially with always on internet computers running Windows
I don’t have a virus and never had one. I don’t do stupid things (open vague attachments, receive files from people i don’t know) so I never got one. But I still run an updated virusscan every 3 or 4 days. But what I just said is very important. I’m in college now and I’m in the ICT sector, but I have classmates that want to learn to program that haven’t even heard of windows update and run virusscanners with virus definitions dating back from 2002 !!! :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:
You don’t have to to anything silly to be infected by the evilish blaster worm afaik… just be online and unpatched :).
Woohoo! This rocks! Just played Oasis and got 46% accuracy, 23/25 gun kills were headshot kills. Muhahaha. I was blind but now I can see!
Re: viruses, it is very unlikely you had 19 different viruses on your computer. I expect it’s more likely that your antivirus found javascript in your temporary files folder that it didn’t like - they probably weren’t doing any harm though. If the viruses were actually in memory and the antivirus didn’t tell you until you did a full scan, your antivirus is crap and should be replaced.
