Benchmarking: ATI

(murka) #1

The goal of this test is to obtain the highest possible fps with no regard to visual detail.
All test were done on the same pc with the same config at a resolution of 1280x1024. Benchmarking was done on the Tower Defense challenge using Fraps with an average run time of 7min. Due to the rate of randomness of every game and the lack of demo recording I’d rate the results to vary ±4fps(tested with 3 consecutive runs of same drivers).

HUGE NOTE: I’m aware that the challenge won’t give a lot of info how the drivers work outdoors, but a benchmark of an online run is too random to even compare. These results do reflect to about 60-90 fps on normal online gameplay.

Sectow low fps spot:

Driver Fps
10.8 45
10.12 44
11.5b 42

I’ll also do a random order re-testing and post more results to each driver.

Do suggest any other drivers and cvars and i’ll be happy to try them out.

(SeptemberBorn) #2

Yeah, try version 10.12. That’s the version I’m running right now. I can’t even get 11.5 to work on my rig.

I7-720QM
ATi mobility 5730 1gig
4 Gigs of Ram

When I first starting playing this game I got about 9FPS. After spending ALL last weekend tweaking my game it runs anywhere between 20-70 on low.

(totallyREEM) #3

Weird the hotfix specifically for Brink produced lower fps!

:stroggbanana:

(Sheza) #4

All challenges are done offline aka they are capped to 30fps - the readings from your tests are not accurate.

(murka) #5

No, offline play isn’t capped to 30fps, i get the same as online.

(kilL_888) #6

offline is capped at 30fps. it displays more, but its internally locked at 30fps. id tech4 listen server and stuff.

(v0lky) #7

Wait, did I just read that you’re getting average of 100 FPS with that rig?

I’m having a PC like this:
AMD Athlon II X3 425 Processor, ~2,7Ghz (triple core).
6Gb DDR2 RAM, haven’t really looked into what kind of RAM it is but it’s decent I guess.
Some Asus M4A77 Motherboard.
ATI(AMD) Radeon 5770 HD 1Gb DDR5, don’t really know what kind of other **** it’s got but yeah.

And I’m getting 20-40 FPS with everything low, resolution @ 1280x720 with a config that I did in Brink Config Maker 1.4, I set EVERYTHING as low as I could in it.

I think I’ve got the Catalyst 10.2 drivers if I’m right but yeah… I have no idea why the game is optimized so bad :frowning:

[/QUOTE]

Yeah, maybe ATI is just messing with us :o

(abjectblitz) #9

I’ve got a Q9650 at 4.2 Ghz
And a ATI 5970

And guess what I get with AO disabled and Shadows disabled? 40 fps avg. Talk about a slap in the face.

Stick my ancient 8800U that is in the corner somewhere with old core 2 cpu and I bet I would get more fps.

(eMwegA) #10

these threads are useless. to me its proven that the low fps are brinks fault. i stick with cat 11.2 wich gives the best results to me and wait for the game to get patched (or the cat drivers) have a HD 5870 and an E8400 and i wish my fps would ever go beyond 30 fps…

(Skunkee) #11

I use 11.4

(Suxxess) #12

The question is, how many fps get someone with a nvidia grafic card?
Perhaps the whole game isn’t well optimized?

But perhaps SD could send someone to AMD to optimize theire drivers for brink?

(Sheza) #13

To be honest, Brink uses Open GL. Not many games do.

(eMwegA) #14

Judging the offered performance i understand why noone uses open gl :stuck_out_tongue: No i have no idea what im talking about. just kidding
Just fix it

(GR0MIT) #15

I got a gtx 260 anda phenom II 965 i strugle to hit 50 fps.

Wierd thing is i maxed the game out minus ambient occlusion and then used a cfg that pretty much labotomises the game and makes it really nasty looking. got almost identical FPS, cant give you an exact figure, probably best i do several bench marks in closed areas, and large open areas. try and give you guys some idea of what can be achieved, or not as the case maybe. rewally hope SD fix this coz i from experience the ID tech engine can do alot better than this, all my favorite games use that engine.

(murka) #16

Updated 1st post with 10.12 and 11.5a rc3. Surprising results
Also my challenge runs seem to be nearly the same thus giving more accurate results.

(Dianetics) #17

You should be doing these tests in either Container City or Security tower because both of those areas are the most punishing areas. Also I’m interested in the CPU’s of people who are having trouble with framerate as opposed to those that aren’t having trouble.

(murka) #18

I do hope they provide recordNetDemo and timeNetDemo soon.

(JPµR¼) #19

and to add to that, OpenGL is…By name OPEN. Dev’s can develop libraries not yet included/supported by the drivers that Nvidia/AMD provides.

(eMwegA) #20

yep. thats no excuse to me. if you cant ensure that the game runs on ati and nvidia cards maybe open gl was a wrong choice?!
