I agree with that 100%. I just assumed that people liked it because they thought the disguise was cool rather than to whore XP. In other games, I’ve noticed the same attraction to ‘cloaker’ classes, even though they are usually not strong fighters or great benefit to their team. Maybe it is the idea of taking off mens pants that they like (not that there is anything wrong with that :D)
So, yeah, I wouldn’t mind at all if they got less/no XP for taking clothes.
My main objection to your other post was the idea that covops being easy to TK was a problem. IMO, that should be one of the risks of the job. If your teammates have half a clue, it won’t happen too often. If they don’t, you are screwed anyway.
I assume that many newbies play CovertOps to get a sniper rifle. They’ve played Quake3 or UT2003 where the Railgun and LightingGun are the best weapons, and they want something similar.
I play a covert ops all the time. Ive never played Quake or UT, I was a Tribes 1 player. Now, a good covert op is seential to your team winning. What is this about a covert op not being useful? Lets list some of the things I do as a covert op.
I blow thier command post
I kill the field ops at the front lines after they give me ammo
I kill the Mg42 gunners at the front or rear with satchel
I get in spawn and toss smoke then block door for a few seconds to keep them from moving to front lines
I REKILL the command post and then the engineer or BOTH at the same time.
I spot mines for our team so that they can get to objectives
Now, all this time, you dont think Im helping or, that a covert ops is essential?
Dont diss players just because YOU think they are non-essential.
I for one love a good covops, or even a mediocre one who trys to complete the objective. It is the ones who don’t do the stuff you mention who bother me.
I’ve been on teams with 4 or more covops, where the engineers and medics were dying on mines over and over, and the command post wasn’t getting blown up. There sure were a lot of axis missing their pants though
That’s a weird trick, I’ve never tried something like that. (Throwing a satchel to kill them all seems much more straightforward) I assume you get killed pretty fast afterwards. Another method to block a doorway might be to get a disguise and lay down across it. Even though your name doesn’t pop up, the first enemy might not look down for a while, or may try to jump and hiit his head on the doorframe.
If you’re going to block them in spawn, then why don’t you plant a satchel there first? After you’ve blocked long enough for the invulernability to wear off, you can explode the group… maybe even before the guy in front decides to kill you.
Of course, many players hate that level of spawncamping… there are a few mean tricks you can make with a satchel near the spawn, and they’ll often get a kickvote started on you.
Dont diss players just because YOU think they are non-essential.
You’re a little confused. I’m not disrespecting an entire class, because I know it can do good things. I am “dissing” some players because I spectate them wasting the CovertOp powers running around thinking they’re Solid Snake, instead of helping the team. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve been on a team with 4 coverts and had to switch myself over from medic or engineer just to get a few mines spotted. (On fueldump, where we KNOW there will be mines, and any covert could grab 9 XP in a few seconds looking at main gate)
No doubt about the shitty covert ops players that do no justice to the class. You mentioned dropping a satchel at spawn, well, I thought that was understood I drop smoke, then a satchel, then block door and then run out and press boom.
