Would it be possible to convert the beach map from RTCW to ET?

it is legal if u change the textures… because the mp_beach.map was free!

I’m afraid that it is NOT legal!
From the Rtcw license agreement:

Permitted New Creations. Subject to the terms and provisions of this Agreement and so long as you fully comply at all times with this Agreement, Id Software grants to you the non-exclusive and limited right to create for the Software (except any Software code) your own modifications (the “New Creations”) which shall operate only with the Software (but not any demo, test or other version of the Software).

The same reason why you can’t use any textures or models from Rtcw…
I don’t like it either but I’m afraid that’s just the way it is :disgust:

Yeah I’m so f*cking bored of that map it’s just silly, and it goes for the rest of the rtcw maps too. I’ve played them all to death and I don’t want to see them in ET.

    any of the following acts:
    …
    g. disassemble, reverse engineer, decompile, modify (except as permitted by section 2.
    hereinabove) or alter the Software;
    …
    k. prepare or develop derivative works based upon the Software;

So, if you reverse engineered the beach map and developed a derivative work based upon it, you could be sued.

why are people yelling NO BEACH IN ET if im not mistaken battery is a beach map.

And that is about the only similarity between the two maps.

No beach as in we dont wanna see mp_beach from rtcw in ET. Two reasons 1) it’s been played to death since the test version of rtcw, 2) It’s not legal to convert it.

Number 3) would be; instead of ripping “old junk”, be creative and make something yourself, make something similar but not a copy at least. It’s far more interesting for you and everyone else to play a fresh map instead of adding a map which is not made for ET in mind nor legal to convert.

sorry to disapoint all the NO BEACHERS, but i just finshed mp_beach all i need now is make the bunker door axis/allied co-op, and get me tank to move up beach to blow the wall.
Regardless of any answers here, it will be out soon.
My main question is : Is it a good idea for ID/Activision to sue me over mp_Beach, when all i i’m doing is giving the community i nice level, i mean why didnt you(SD rocks) make ET backwards compatable in the first place.
Anyway sock or any of you SD guy’s, do you think Id would want the bad publicty from sueing an unemployed teenager from manchester all over a couple of brushs i copyed, if so then they can try i aint got shit anyways and they shouldnt have put mp_beach with radient :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t see why people are against the map.

They are so many servers out there they won’t have a hard time avoiding it. Simply don’t join it.

They did that to help us mappers, just like they put the goldrush.map with the latest radiant.

If you never played RTCW then surely you won’t have agreed to the EULA and therefore you can copy the beach map legally (don’t trust me on this people ;))

However if you have played RTCW then you are screwed

if your making a map from rtcw then you must need to know what its like meaning you have played it. unless you decide to build a beach map and by coninsidence its very simialr…

The following is my personal opinion only: I really don’t think any legal action would be taken against an individual for doing what you claim to have done. I would assume that any servers with this map in regular rotation would simply be asked to remove it, at the most. At the very least, I’m sure the majority of the (server) community would just not host it if it was something that causes a big thorn in the side of the companies and development teams. We, the gamers and custom mappers, take a lot of what we get for granted. We get a lot of support from these teams that produce the games we love so much. If we do things without regard to their rights and wishes, they may not be inclined to be so involved in our community in the future.

K well i toook all your points in mind, about the eula if you have mp_beach then that would say to me you would have had rtcw installed to obtain the beach.map
In respect to sombee, i see what your saying about :

But like a said in my previous post any contribution to the rtcw/E.T community should and most probably will be welcomed by most.
Anyway i’ve decided to scrap the tank and removed various mg i put in, just for the fact that A. If it aint broke why fix it :stuck_out_tongue:
B.I’m too Noob and suck at scripting.
If the outcome of this thread is overly negative then i will keep mp_beach among my close friends , who have been play testing it the past few days.
