I wasn’t a smurf…wasn’t playing against smurfs…but I had a game where me and a friend were unranked and we got placed against 4 golds and a high silver.

That’s game mechanics not smurfs…learn the difference.

I don’t see the difference at all at hiding identities in matches from hiding your true skill via another account aka, smurf. I’m not blaming players who make smurf accounts because the system just doesn’t work well enough to properly match make. They probably just don’t want to wait excessively long for a potentially 20 minute game and get penalised for not being able to put all the attention in waiting if they miss the opportunity to accept a match within 35 seconds.

I still cannot see from your argument why smurfing is a problem, whereas the game mechanic provides similar events. Their end result is just too uncanny to differentiate.

Let’s remove all Ranks since smurfs arent a Problem. People smurf but play the same shit again and again to reach high Cobalt or Elite in few days and then complaining about the Q Times. If you have 5 Smurf accounts maybe for once don’t abuse Redeye with Grandeur, Burst Rifle and play as a 4 man Stack.

And to People who are okay with smurfing… I quit 3 Games because of more Smurfs than actually new Players in a Game and one of the Game were League.

Ever searched on Youtube how to escape the “elo hell” and see people playing on a smurf, guess what they do it with buddys and are happy to win easily and complain about newbs to the game, thats the same shit on DB where Players smurf use a Team because alone they can’t do shit (obviously) and feel good when they can go 40/1 as Redeye…

Just because you dont grasp a concept does not mean it’s not real. Smurfs have been banned in other games, because it’s a real issue for game devs in term of player retention. The question is not weither or not they can link Eizzo to Ozzie and ban one of his account, be it permanently or temporarily, or even demote it to lead. They can. The question is, what is your real rank, what is your spot on the ladder. If your main is cobalt and your smurf is high silver, are you just a gold?

LOL. Twenty years ago in LAN parties people where matched against people by people. It was not purely random neither, there was ranking. You are now playing an online game. They are trying to mainstream competitive with ranked, they invest development time in the mode, and it’s not quite sold as a beta matchmaker exercise…

Off topic, I think casual matchmaking is a very bad idea right now. You’ll get the exact same problem you have with ranked. No server browser, queue time, smurfes. It takes me almost fifteen minutes during prime time to find a pub match in my region who is not completely stacked, cycling scrambled teams or almost finished if I’m not put in a dying lobby. One basic functionnal quickjoin matchmaker (not the yellow improbabilty event generator we have now) should be enough.

I feel the need to point out a few things

Someone is going to jump off a building whatever happens, but it doesn’t make it okay to push them off by yourself even though the result would be the same.

As a kid you can learn to fight if you pick a fight with other kids stronger than you but you won’t learn a thing if the person you start a fight with is John Wick disguised as a kid.

If you’re going to ban someone you better do it for the right reasons, it’s the same exact thing with aimbots or wall hacks, you have to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.

None of the stuff you described is used by SD, it’s all Valve, that’s why SD has it’s own anti cheat as well and not VAC.
