Bad Lead Designer

(The_Enema_Bandit) #61

What do you expect of him? Lead designer is not a big deal.
He’s just the guy that made all those lead cards we’ve been getting. Right?

(derpyMoonMoon) #62

This was one amazing thing that I did not expect. SD has been really secretive lately with all of the new features that they are working on, and it’s very refreshing to hear what they are working on and what they are doing to fix the balance.

I like the idea of rage quit penalties, as well as the removal of drop ins (I think that’s what he meant?), but it seems it will make those who do rage quit hurt their team more. I’m very interested in seeing what will come of this.

Nah it will make them not play. Without the drop in drop out system for casual ill never put a toe in the game again. This is why I like pub i can start a game play and if i get called for something to do just leave. I dont have to plan my playtime, if they really do implement this, that will be the uninstall for me

(Terminal_6) #64

I agree that could make casual matchmaking decidedly less casual, especially for Stopwatch. Sometimes, I just have to go before the end of what could be a 30 minute game. However, I assume that the punishment for leaving will target players who hop between servers until they find their optimal feeding ground, instead of levying long-term penalties on people who have to leave due to IRL circumstance.

Wow, I need some cynicism to balance out all that optimism. They’ll definitely screw it up, rah rah.

(blisteringOwlNest) #65

I think calling for someone’s resignation is a bit much, and if this is the direction splash damage want to take their game, I fully support them. Don’t forget, as lead designer, he’s probably had a hand in most of the defining features of dirty bomb, including the very basics that we all take for granted. Getting a little confused on a stream about what the communities asking for is fine, especially when it’s not his job to pat us all on the back and say “it’s all good, no biggie”

While I do agree there are some obvious problems with drop rates with boosters and such like, the whole fact that we have such an intricate event and the opportunity to hear from a lead designer is undeniably positive for things to come. hopefully the communication can become a bit better, but I have faith that SD can improve the game in the long run. How long of a run? Well that’s a toughie.

(doxjq) #66

it wont be customization, it need to be free, or credits only, because if it would be paid only, too many people would get scared that db is p2w. sights just arent skins[/quote]

Why could they not just make all of the sights free (or cheap with in game credits like bronze loadout cards), but if you want different skins and/or colours for them, they can be available for purchase. EG a gunmetal grey red dot sight. That could be free, but if you want a shiny gold version of the same sight with a blue dot instead of a red dot, you can purchase it.

Honestly there is so many ways around the excuses behind not adding gun sights. It’s no different to the loadout system, if anything you could make it a more stable and viable system.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that the boosters are not working as intended unless that intention was for them either to not work at all, or give a lower chance as compared to not having boosters. Boosters still don’t appear to work correctly according to a lot of people, unless something’s been changed. I’ll just check for myself.

As of now, it appears they’re taking the wrong direction, which is sad considering this game not only has potential, but it is currently the best free to play FPS in the market.

It’s expected though. They all die eventually, and that doesn’t mean in terms of playerbase. I just hope that the things that were said on stream weren’t meant the way they were said.

Rarely have I found games based around a community, and Dirty Bomb was the first one I’ve seen in a while. Now, it seems like they don’t listen to the community, or just don’t check their own forums (other than Raziel).

Some basic things that have been mentioned on major topics for months have either not been implemented, reverted, or changed. One of the more recent ones was the entirely unnecessary jump-nerf to sniper rifles. No one asked for this. I have never even seen anyone complain or discuss this (other than as a tactic), on the forum or in-game. The majority of the community has agreed it was not necessary and needs to be reverted. The only people agreeing with the nerf are those that dislike snipers or just want to keep it now that it’s there. No one ever discussed or thought about this from what I’ve seen. There honestly is no reasoning behind this. Amerika has refuted almost every post perfectly.

I just don’t like the direction it’s headed, but that’s just my take on it. I doubt my $7 opinion matters (about how much I’ve spent on Dirty Bomb. Just nothing to spend it on due to RNG being too costly).

Glad to see that at least someone here is making posts based on facts and statistics instead of wholly made up and wildly speculative opinion.

…oh, wait.

It’s funny, I’ve been playing a bunch of Black Desert but got tired of the grind. So I came to play some of this event. Joke’s on me!

(TheNekoMia) #71

Those who moan at phantom not being redone, They have been working on animee non stop if they had stopped to work on phantom how many of you would be moaning that we have not got a new merc in even more months? They only have so many people and there trying there hardest.

(onLooSe) #72

I haven’t unlocked phantom for instance and I have more than 700 hours in-game time. I can bravely say, that you are completely retarded! What are you thinking?! Some people bought phantom for real money and he is pretty much out of the game if you want to play productively! Let’s just introduce worthless and broken mercs every month than?! Thunder is still pretty bad too… I don’t know if you are for real or what? If Aimee was total disaster (I pretty much think she is, but…) You would have been all over the forums.

(watsyurdeal) #73

Considering it will be a year in about 3 months since Phantom was added, you can understand the frustration.

We’ve been talking THAT long about Phantom being fixed, and all they’ve said is “… I think we’re better off with Thunder than we are with Phantom, Phantom is still, the ideas are still, a bit, there’s a lot of different ones, we have just got to pick the strongest and move forward with that”

Yea, nevermind the countless ideas on Reddit, Nexon Forums, and Splash Damage Forums. Let’s just keep things in the planning stage for now, even though it’s clear that a stealth merc needs to be stealthy and not a tank.

(Szakalot) #74

@Watsyurdeal how is it clear that phantom should be all about stealth? not clear to me at all.

again : IDEAS ARE CHEAP

(inscrutableShow) #75

Well, I disagree with a bunch of stuff he said, mostly because it sounds like he had no idea what shoe was talking about, and was stuttering his way through it. (I don’t think that was actually the case, but that’s what it sounded like)

First, the addition of penalties for leaving pubs early. Please, no. My first thought when I read that in Fara’s round-up was “Oh, crap.” I understand it in ranked, but PUBS? I mean, I never play ranked, because I often have to leave mid-match for legit reasons. I get that they want to punish rage-quitting, but they’re also punishing people that have to go do stuff that’s more important than an FPS game. For example, say a guy with a kid is playing DB, but the kid falls and gets hurt. Why should our dude get punished for taking care of his kid?

Second, the thing with sights. How the heck is that P2W? You can pay for mercs, and they’re not P2W. It’s not like certain sights give an insane advantage, it’s just preference. Make them cost 500 credits or 50 cents (by which I mean both), you’ll get a cup of coffee from the proceeds, and we get something that will add actual customization, and “Oh, that’s awesome!” to spectating. I mean, who here actually cares when they see somebody with a cobalt?

Third, the Phantom thing. WHAT?!?! Exedore didn’t actually say anything, he just kinda stuttered some garbage. The ideas are still a bit. Right. The only thing he confirmed is that they have no clue what to do with Phantom.

Fourth and last, the multiple case issue. How does that hurt anything? It’s a matter of convenience. All it does is make it easier to buy a bunch of cases. That’s all.

I feel like Exedore was just like “No, no , no,” to everything shoe asked. Shoe mostly asked stuff that WE ALL WANT. I think this just reiterates the fact that SD doesn’t care what we think.

Because the armor is bullshit, it creates an unfair fight for the victim. And it’s clear that the armor is the only thing that keeps him relevant when it’s arguably EXACTLY why people are so annoyed with him.

He needs to be an ACTUAL stealthy character for anyone to feel like it’s fair to fight him, as well as play him in a serious environment.

(ImSploosh) #77

Yeah I did actually, then I saw it, and forgot to edit my post. Another fail by me! Yay!

But still, some of the things I said hold true. The boosters just do not appear to be working right unless a lot of people are delusional. I mean, I know I’m insane, but I figured that the amount of people complaining about this should show that something’s not right. Perhaps it’s a bug of sorts?

I’m really glad we finally received a response though. That was nice. And now the boosters actually make sense, but something’s still just not right. Hell, I’ll still buy them anyways to see for myself. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad to see that at least someone here is making posts based on facts and statistics instead of wholly made up and wildly speculative opinion.

Those are facts and statistics. This isn’t a research project, I’m not going to go back and cite every thread/poll. My statement was just broad, that’s all. :expressionless:

you will NEVER be able to balance stealth properly. Its either completely invisible or visible. Good players have no trouble seeing phantom, i suppose it drops their accuracy by sth like 5% vs. uncloaked opponents.

The whole point of the entire game and each merc is that they have some scenario where they have an advantage. Sure Phantom has armor that is useful for peeking and stuff, but is it better than frag nade, +30hp and better guns at a cost of a bit mobility? Or Phoenix who can actually heal himself at rate similar to armor regen AND be an asset to the team?

People raged at Phantom cause he was a beast in solo duels, where neither player has backup. That and the beyblade shizzles. And then Phantom got overnerfed, and while still OK and great fun to play, definitely not on par with tier1 mercs, even on pubs.
Even good players complained, rather than try to adapt and fall back to teammates, where Phantom’s weaknesses come out.

(MTLMortis) #80

Lose the invisibility and turn it into a personal rechargeable bullet shield or 2 second invulnerability that is cancelled by any offensive action. Problem solved.
