Hi, I am trying to get some background music to work for my server (different music in different parts of the map) and was just wondering what file(s) I need to edit. I was thinking oasis.sounds or oasis.sps (Oasis as an example for a map I want music for). Is there a way to do this without overwriting everything in oasis.sps with the music that I want in those parts of the map? Also, I am making the music at a reasonable volume so that you can still hear footsteps and other things.
Background music for my server.
It should be possible to do it by just editing the oasis.sps, but I don’t know how you would figure out co-ordinates etc for where you want to place your new sounds. If you want to replace a sound that is already in the map, that is probably easier. You would just have to find the sound in the pk3 and replace it with your own sound.
Start ET, set g_gametype to 2 and devmap oasis.
Wait for map to start, then type editspeakers <enter> to turn on speaker editing. This loads the oasis.sps from the game pk3s and writes it out to sound/maps. Use dumpspeaker to add a new speaker, point your crosshair at it and type modifyspeaker to bring up the editor to add your keys and values. Fill those out, and move onto the next speaker until you’ve added all the ones you want.
When you’re done, make a new pk3 containing your sound/maps/oasis.sps and the sounds you want to use, and put that on your server as you would any other custom pk3.
