Average review scores -- surprised?

Brink, so far, is receiving 6/10 - 8/10 review scores. Not sure why this seems shocking to some of you. I thought we all knew that this game wasn’t going to amaze critics and it definitely wouldn’t be a game that would easily please the masses. This is a niche game that was meant for those of us who wanted the opposite of games like COD.

While watching early release gameplay vids this past week, I kept thinking “Shadowrun.” I’m not sure what you think about that game, but personally I thought Shadowrun was an amazing, fun, and unique game that was never given a chance due to its low review scores. Brink is going to be the same. So please don’t get this game thinking it’s going to be one of the most popular games out there – it won’t be.

Joystiq’s review was amusing to read. Apparently the game is bad because it didn’t have a lot of ‘hero’ moments, but at the same time it’s also frustrating when the rest of your team doesn’t get it together AND you can’t see the amount of kills you’ve made.

In other words, the salty tears of a COD player who doesn’t know how teamplay works.

I’m not surprised at most of these reviews because I expected this game to have a niche following as most of their past titles have. At the same time I expected the game to have a lot less bugs at launch (PC) due to the fact that I read the game was heavily tested internally by Splash Damage. Audio cutting out, compatibility/performance issues, connectivity issues… missing a chat box/chat history and ping indicators are just a small number of things I can think of on the top of my head.

This kind of just gives people who clearly want to hate this game even more ammunition and justification of rating the game poorly.

I trust that most of these issues will be sorted out within a few days, but it is still disheartening none the less.

Metacritic’s xbox 360 reviews have -

5 reviews below 75
4 reviews 75-79
8 reviews 80
1 review 81

Now, I really hope people will read the link I am about to post before they trust that awful review from joyprick. Scroll to the bottom where it says update - the journalist played with the joystiq member who reviewed Brink and found some interesting things when he looked at his gamercard. He even posted photos. The joystiq member did not even finish the campaign.

Oops forgot the link!! Damn I’m tired.

This summarizes most of the game play I experienced. Turns out all that team-play instinct I gained cranks out a serious score. There are always at least 2-3 people on the other team that farm kills(camp, etc.) There character is spec’d for damage. I remember a player named Radix. Farmed kills with the shotgun and Carbine buffing his damage when he spawned. Score was 3rd to last in each match. He was good at camping, not so good at helping. That should quickly weed out the CoD derelicts.

I wanted this game to replace the masterpiece that is Killzone 2 on PS3, and Brink looks like total fail. From what i seen there is no recoil, and way too much team work. Team work is cool but too much in Brink. I also never liked the cartoony look, too bad… sorry splash damage.

Maybe you guys can make a game for PS3 as good as Killzone 2?

The game is looks like a fail, because you don’t like team-work?!

That’s the worst statement I’ve heard in my entire life…

Wow you fail hard. I said teamwork is cool, like there is in KILLZONE 2 for example, but too much of it is not cool. Depending on a team too much to win is not cool. Learn to read.

I know you mad cuz brink failed hard, the user scores at 6.3 at metacritic lol

(AutomaticSnake) #10

Troll? Look at my previous posts, i was really looking forward to this game, i though it will be the next hardcore thing. Many of us hardcore killzone 2 fans wanted Brink to replace it cuz Killzone 3 failed.

Learn to accept other peoples opinions nerd. If you like and wanna play this low rated fail of a game then go ahead.

(throwback8) #11

Seeing as the user scores at metacritic cannot be manipulated by 12 year old kids who have nothing better to do than troll forums, such as yourself? Riiiiiiight. facepalm

(AutomaticSnake) #12

ign just gave it a 6 lol

keep failing my friend.

You need to chill the **** out. You’re calling other people nerds but you have used the word “fail” in pretty much all your posts (Which I view as NERD-speak). And you also called yourself a hardcore Killzone 2 fan. Then you go off and say that someone “fails hard” and say something completely lame “the user scores at 6.3 at metacritic”

So please. chill the **** out closet nerd. Your post shows you have some deep mental issues. Probably some scrawny kid with an inhaler. Probably don’t even play sports. Nerd.

There is nothing like “too much” teamwork. Good sex always involves two plus people, alternatively you can choose to jerk off for the rest of your life  .

It’s because everyone is addicted to CoD. The point of Brink is to put the team back in Teamplay. The killing part of the game requires just as much context as the team portions. You have to kill at the right times or it will be useless. Killing everything in sight is not a winning tactic. The game forces you to play as a team because, frankly, few people would otherwise.
