Hi guys.
There are a few maps that I would like to have on my server but I don’t because they download automatically even if the map is not being played next.
Does anyone know if there is a way of disabling this.
It’s not nice when you join a server and have to download three or four maps even if that map isn’t being played at the time.
Some maps have a built-in campaign file - i think thats your problem.
Only way is to open the PK3 and remove the file and give the PK3 a new name - example “temple_final_nc.pk3”
you can also add a list of empty campaign files into a pk3 in mod folder… newest nq has something like that in…
just use ETPro and b_campaignFile
Allows admins to specify a specific campaign file, so that clients aren’t forced to download every campaign/map pk3 on the server.
The syntax is scripts/xxx.campaign

Perhaps I should have mentioned that I am running a NQ 1.2.3 server.
I assume it’s ok then to modify peoples PK3s then, I don’t want to go upsetting anyone.
I wont be changing any maps at all, just removing this small problem.
hmm, may just open a new can of worms there, people will now have to redownload modified maps as they will now differ from the maps they have. I can’t see it changing the problem unless NQ has the same b_campaign function as ETPro.

Much better is… virtualy overwrite those .campaign files.
How?
Delete whole content of those campaign files instead removing them and put them into some .pk3 file (named like z_something.pk3). Effect is same but you dont have to change original .pk3 files.

Thinking about that, wouldn’t that mean that people would spend time downloading temple_final.pk3 then have to download z_something.pk3 because the z file comes later in the alphabet.
I think a good thing would be for map makers to not include this campaign file in the first place.
Make it an addon if people wanted it.
For me, and I would assume most server admins, it’s not nice to see people disconnect after a couple of minutes downloading six or seven maps that aren’t even in a particular cycle, they just happen to be in the etmain folder waiting to be used in the future.
Important advantage of this way is: you don’t have to change original .pk3 file (containing map). If client already have donwloaded an original .pk3 file containing map - he don’t have to donwload same map again.
All what player have to donwload is tiny .pk3 file containing empty .campaign files.
Disadvantages: none.
