Audio but no video

When starting ET I get the grey console coming up, and everything seems to init fine. But when the game starts proper, I only get the audio output - the screen switches resolution to the game’s default 800x600, but it’s completely grey.

I installed the 1.02 client patch, but this hasn’t fixed the problem. I’m now wondering if it may be down to my system’s gfx-card; an Intel 82845G. I have the latest drivers installed for the card, and this seems to have improved performance quite dramatically in a number of games/applications, so I’m not sure it’s an incompatability problem as such.

Any ideas, folks?

I think this has something to do with reaching the master server or pb server. I experienced this problem on LAN’s where there’s no internet connection. You should try to leave it on the grey screen, after a few minutes suddenly the game will start and next time you won’t have the problem again.

Not too sure tbh… Card supports both Q3 and RTCW so…

Take a look at http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/ - could be several things tho…

After rebooting the system the game seemed to work fine… :???:

Once ET was up and running, all I had to do was set the appropriate permissions in Kerio Personal Firewall and everything’s a-OK. Runs suprisingly quickly too - all things considered - with a minimal amount of tweakage to give the graphics chip a slightly easier time.

You guys are damned fast at responding; cheers for the pointers!

There you go, Sick Boy was right. Your firewall was probably blocking the connection to PB/iD or whatever it uses hence it was hanging at the grey screen until some retries or whatever it does behind the scene. Hence when you allowed it to connect it made it straight off and it started.
