attacking sucks

It’s not as bad when teams are even, but when defenders have even one more player than attackers it’s frustrating.

I spend 10-15 seconds trying to get to the objective on Terminal to die in 2 seconds to defenders who spawn right by the thing I’m supposed to blow up.

All the distances from attacker spawn to the objective are too far and every map favors defenders too heavily. Couple this with the free 200XP “Long Defense Bonus” every few seconds encouraging the more skilled players to stack, there’s literally no incentive to play the game when you have to attack, unless you’re stuck with the “secondary objectives” mission and need a round or two of Underground to complete it for the credits.

I kinda agree on the general statement. I prefer defense nowadays because no matter what you can just sit back and kill things that come to you unless you get completely stomped. On attack you often end up the only guy actually trying to push which is just painful, or you join your camping attacker team and get bored.

The only time when defenders have more players is when people on the attacking side leave… the game prioritizes attackers when new players join a match which makes them rarely down in numbers.

For a map like Terminal the reason you have trouble is because it’s extremely beneficial to take the Forward Spawn objective, it makes it way harder for the defender side, for other maps it’s suppose to favour the defenders otherwise the rounds will be over far too quickly and thus less fun to play.

(SteelMailbox) #4

The only problem I see is that every damn time I try to flank through defenders spawn they fucking spawn with their spawn protection and I end up dead…

(Dirmagnos) #5

Weirdly enough, when playing terminal, i actually prefer attacking team.
Sure, attackers spawn is much further from objective than defenders, but once attackers cap forward spawn, then situation becomes opposite. While defending team is still closer, terrain is heavily not in their favor.

play stopwatch

defending sucks. its boring.

attacking at least gives you something to fight for.

(JesseKomm) #8

Honestly what we really need is some form of Capture The Flag, symmetrical CTF is a hell of a lot of fun, look at games like TF2 with 2Fort, easily considered the greatest map in the entire game and the most fun for both teams.

(SteelMailbox) #9

HAH! I see you never played TF2 cause that map is considered one of the worst maps by experienced players, much more prefer upward or badwater and CTF in TF2 wasn’t done all that great so a majority of the more experienced community play gamemodes lik 5CP or PL

(neverplayseriou) #10

I like attacking, defending is so lame.

I do need atleast 2 other people who know what they’re doing though, once I had 4 teammates standing on the balcony like thing in underground when the enemy was defusing the c4…

(neverplayseriou) #11

I would love a ctf map such as the bfh (battlefield heroes) map buccaneer bay ^^

I have 1770 hours in TF2, I’m extremely experienced in the game and it is still my favourite map and gamemode.

When that happens you should quickly check how much time you have left till your respawn than use that to figure out their spawn time. Usually it’s at 12 seconds so you should wait till 14 or 15 seconds before you flank past their spawn.

(Mister_Jim_E_Rustler) #14

I prefer attacking easier to PTFO IMO. Easy to rack up a serious score in terminal.

(Pecka) #15

That’s all you got for playing objective. Just play stopwatch

(B_Montiel) #16

Since they’ve choosed to go for synchronous spawn times between attackers and defenders, it’s indeed quite hard to pass some objectives, if both teams are equally skilled.

The lack of side routes also worsen the situation for quite a good bit in terminal and bridge mainly. In terminal, water pump route is just a quicker way to get at the same place, but it’s not a literal side route which needs extra attention if you’re defending the door to the forward spawn already. In bridge, as long as you’re camping the EV and the main road from afar, nothing to dangerous can happen to you. The lack of side routes, potential ways to hold the defenders far ahead from objectives reduce indeed the strategy you can apply for.

I really hope there will be some updates on the current maps, because except chapel and trainyard (there’s still a couple of things to say about those two), maps are imo way too defender-sided. This makes the game interesting on attack if you look for challenging plays, but the defending side is close from a rail shooter…

(LifeupOmega) #17

If you want good CTF maps, Doublecross and Well exist. But I do agree, I’d love a CTF mode.

(Sinee) #18

I agree. I tend to prefer playing defense. I feel like there’s a bias towards defense on most maps, though it’s most obvious on Bridge. But my experiences are probably worse given I almost exclusively play pub. It’s not unusual for me to be the only person giving a flying fuck about the obj and pushing it solo. Probably comes with the territory of pub though.

(Yes) #19

I want to know who’s idea it was to allow defenders to disable the EV right near their spawn on Chapel, while also giving them loads of cover and making attackers have to run out in the open.

(neverplayseriou) #20

@Clown I always throw down a bushwacker turret and start repairing once the match starts, quite easy.
