ATI Quick Fix!

(BUDA20) #1

This is “the best” combination for ATI cards.

…after a lot of testing

The game now runs fluid and without crashes.

*** this is no longer needed, in the last update of Brink + Catalyst 11.6 the game runs fine ***

Note, they delete the files now every time you run brink, there is of course a way to prevent that, but as I say is not longer necessary, I left the files here for someone who need it for testing.

But the new update and 11.6 work better, because is basically the same plus no longer hard drive access.

****************************************************************************

Simply decompress this two files in the same folder as Brink.exe
http://www.mediafire.com/?f29ew916ih24nlr

Uninstall (or turn off)
Remove the files, or add a “-” at the end of the name.
You want to try this if you install a new driver and you want to see how it performs.

Tested on Windows 7 x64:

C2D
HD5870
Everything on and high
Catalyst 11.x

C2D
HD4870
Everything medium, only anti-aliasing and vsync
Catalyst 10.x

I prefer myself only anti-aliasing, and vsync and triple buffer forced in CCC not in game options, and shadow
and textures to normal, because I want the extra boost and the smoothness (I don’t like shimmering)

atioglxx.dll taken from 11.3
aticfx32.dll taken from 11.6

so, you basicly just took the open gl dll from 11.3 and one needs to just copy it over the current version? what version i currently have installed doesnt matter?

im curious if someone will test this. it seems pretty dubious.

(BUDA20) #3

Is exactly that, but not replacing anything!, you put them in the Brink.exe directory, it only affects the game as long as you keep them there.

You can verify yourself about this method, is used for example by the application RadeonPro to change different drivers in run time.

But you need to make a lot more steps using RadeonPro and finding the right files.

And, no, the version you have does not matter, I test it in 10.x and 11.x
off course it can be, an incompatible situation, but in all my test I dint find that condition.

In fact, the game loads perfectly fine in broken driver versions.

And is a lot better that reinstall old drivers for 1 game.

This is intended for people who want to put the files and finish.

Regards.

u got 60+ fps in all situations/maps?

(light_sh4v0r) #5

At least the files are clean, I’ll try it.

(BUDA20) #6

cl0k, not in numbers, BUT!.

it does not matter!, because the microshutering is gone. so is completely fluid visually.

I tested in the worst map, and almost all levels, not a single visual glitch and completely smooth.

visually the difference is A LOT compared to 11.5 for example.

The only thing that remain is read access to the harddrive, even on a faster SSD the game stops for a fraction of the moment when it reads something.

You can try it using your drivers, and then put the files and try again, you will see what I mean.

Most of my test are in the HD5870 but as I say before I tested too in a HD4870.

Regards.

It does make quite a difference for the cutscenes and character customisation screens, this is more fluent now. Ingame I’m still stuck at 20-30 fps with dips to <10.

OC’ed 4850 btw.

(BUDA20) #8

light_sh4v0r, try to activate Triple Buffer in CCC and disable vsync, using this files.

Of course start testing at minimum graphical options, and then rise when you already got good performance.

If you mess with the options, I recommend to try a fresh config. the same apply to Catalyst.

For example forcing Anisotropic in this game, has a very profound negative effect.

BUDA20 - I am happy you found a solution that works for your particular configurations.

For everyone else: We cannot recommend this solution. You are a lot more likely to experience both visuals- and stability-issues by combining driver-versions like suggested here. Please run with latest official AMD drivers as described here.

Thanks!

(BUDA20) #10

I understand that, and I think about it before posting, of course is not an universal solution.

And the problem for Splash Damage is if people forgot to take away the files or report based on these files.

I’m glad you people see this.

Regards.

Please optimize the damn game finally.

Thanks.

but the current ATI drivers arent great.

i get same fps with all eye candy on as i do with medium settings. i still get ~25fps in some areas on certain maps. surely i should be getting 80fps everywhere with my rig?? is a quad core i5 really that much better than a 9550? its marginal at best in comparison charts

(light_sh4v0r) #13

I’ll try triple buffering, but I think that made things worse when I tried it earlier.
@SDGJoel: I realise it’s all at my own risk, but people go to great lenghts in an attempt to play Brink

(kilL_888) #14

quick question here…

in security tower on the opposite side of the first objective. i walk to the wall with my back and overlook the whole area facing the building where you have to hack.

i get 35 fps there in 1680x1050. everything disabled. i also get 35 fps in 800x600, everything disabled.

running the 11.6 rc2 on a hd4870, intel quadcore q9400@2.67 ghz, 4gb of ddr2 ram @ 667mhz. windows 7 x64.

what is wrong with this? there is something massivly screwed and i dont know what or why it isnt fixed or if it is fixable at all.

(BUDA20) #15

using 11.5b the game works, but bad for me.

using 11.6 rc2 the game shows an OpenGL error and does not work.

I’m using right now 11.6 rc2 + the Files i posted. and the game works just fine in my HD5870.

Can you post and screenshot?, one part I recall a lot of lag is looking at the plane, in the map there is an hangar.

Now is fixed for me, of course the game has his “needs” but that kind of hang no longer occurs.

Regards.

(kilL_888) #16

no, i cant. i get a black screen when i make a screenshot. also tried the print screen on the keyboard, but the image also is black.

(BUDA20) #17

Use the game in windowed (no fullscreen), you can make normal screenshots in that way, and paste into a program.

Or using fraps.

Regards.

(Je T´aime) #18

I tested this, about fps they are basicly the same, but the game feels smoother, i notice i have a lot less slutering, thks for this buda : )

(cl0k) #19

yeah the game feels smoother but still low on fps

(BUDA20) #20

Please post your specs like processor, video card, memory, windows, etc.

To know better.

Thanks!.
