arg... keep switching to gun after dropping dynamite...

(bani) #1

…i want my pliers instead :banghead:

(FallenMatt) #2

yup… i don’t remember that ever being a problem in vanilla RTCW.

it is really fun when you manage to sneak in to some place where bunch of enemies are around, you try to plant a dyno only to burst a loud serries from your gun… not even mentioning the wasted time to switch back to pliers…

recently it has been happening to me over and over again…

(senator) #3

Happened to me more than once. I haven’t tested it but I think if I press fire to early while the game is still busy switching to pliers I get the gun instead. Maybe more patience is needed until the correct tool comes up ?
But, as I said, haven’t tested it, it’s just a feeling

(Formaldehyde) #4

I remember this happening in RTCW at least in the beta days when I played eng a lot to blow the beach wall and door. If I shot the dynamite instead of getting my pliers I’d usually end up buying the farm so I got in the habit of continuously hitting ‘5’ until I saw my pliers actually appear.

(kvilli) #5

It’s annoying. Happens also when planting mines…

(Cyber-Knight) #6

turn off all your autoswitching and hold down on the 5 key on your keyboard upon dropping mine or dyno.

(amazinglarry) #7

i’m pretty sure this is implemented in the game. For example I only take out my gun instead of pliers when there are visible enemies on my screen. sort of like an “auto defense” which I think is pretty annoying. Cause it happens all the time when I’m trying to plant land mines.

But yeah. I’m pretty sure it only happens when enemies are on your screen. Watch out for it, let me know if I’m right or wrong.

(BlackDeath) #8

Yeah, that really is a bitch when that happens. :stuck_out_tongue:

(Agrado) #9

Also CovOps switches to pistol after throwing smoke grenade, which is also annoying and mysterious. What’s wrong with switching back to Sten?

(BlackDeath) #10

Cause good players have akimbos :stuck_out_tongue:

(Ranstaton) #11

As well as auto-switching to primary weapon when you throw down a satchel, instead of switching to detonator…

(BlackDeath) #12

yep, that happens to me too.

(Freedom[]Tickler) #13

I pasted my RTCW CFG right into ET test and full, I always get pliers after droppin dynomite. Not sure why youre having this issue, perhaps you have offended the video game gods.

You shld be thinking ritual sacrifice at this point.

(Ranstaton) #14

/me dusts off his sacrificial altar.

(bani) #15

ive had it happen on oasis when the entire axis team was in limbo waiting to respawn. no enemies in sight, and it pulled out my garand instead of pliers :banghead:

also happened on fueldump while planting mines, again no enemies in sight…

i dont like the game making random decisions for me, i would prefer consistent behaviour not random one… :bash:

(Kendle) #16

Never had this problem Bani. Although I rarely play Engy I had several rounds as Engy only yesterday (cos every other fucker on the server was running around stealing uniforms and not contributing one little bit to the team).

But then I’ve always had this cvar set in my config:-

seta cg_noAmmoAutoSwitch 0

which ensures that you’re not automatically switched to another weapon when you’re out of ammo. I guess when you plant Dynamite or a Landmine you’re “out of ammo” cos you can’t plant another one until your bar re-charges, therefore you get switched to next best weapon, which is your SMG.

I agree it’s a bug, but I think you’ll find the above client cvar will fix it for you.

(bani) #17

arg… had the most sucky autoswitch tonight. loaded a nade into my garand, then dropped dynamite. damn thing switched back to my garand instead of pliers, so… boom – blowed myself up thanks to the ass autoswitch
:banghead: :bash: :banghead: :bash: :banghead: :bash:

(Sombee) #18

This happens to me quite often as well.

I’m curious as to what position those who are not having this problem are in whenever you drop a mine/dynamite. I am usually standing (and sometimes running) whenever I drop, and then immediately crouch to arm (resulting in switching to my gun more often than not). I don’t believe I’ve ever had it switch to gun when I was crouched and not moving at the time I drop my mine/dynamite.

(Kendle) #19

I played Engy and Field-Ops last night, and tried to observe what happens in various circumstances like this. It seems that with seta cg_noAmmoAutoSwitch 0 I don’t ever switch to SMG automatically.

For instance, as Field-Ops, when I throw an Air-Strike canister I’d expect to swap to SMG automatically (because I don’t have enough charge to throw another), but I don’t. I remain holding an un-useable canister. It doesn’t appear to have anything to do with crouching. As Engy I’ll usually throw the Dynamite whilst on the move, and only crouch when ready to arm.

I haven’t actually tried using the Autoswitch function in E.T., I think it would throw me as I’ve had it disabled since OSP first introduced it in RTCW. I can see how it might be of benefit when you’re in a firefight and your SMG runs out of ammo and you’re automatically switched to Pistol, but then again I like to be in control and have the flexibility to decide what weapon I’m going to use and when. I have auto-reload disabled for the same reason.

(Blackadder_NZ) #20

It seems to switch to something else if I’m an engineer and I throw down a mine/dynamite when I’m moving.
If I stand still and thow one it stay’s. So, yea…
