Aren't you too old for Brink?

Pls vote .

why?
what if there is corelation between brink and our age? just a hypothesis, but i think, objective and only objective focused games are something new here and older players have problems to adapt new ideas. I cannot enjoy Brink because im not solid team player. yeah i know it. What i only need is that feelings from mass kills and camping or hunting for noobs and so on.

anyway whats your opinion about that?

(Oz70NYC) #2

My opinion? That your opinion is completely misconstrued. Age has nothing to do with it. Perception on the other hand, has everything to do with it. A game like Brink requires at the very least, some semblance of tactical know-how and communication to be successful at. Which sadly, the “CoD” crowd don’t have. Takes no skill at all to be successful at CoD games. Just knowledge of how to better exploit the engine and physics of the game then the next guy. Couple that with small maps, OP guns and perks that make you superhuman, and it’s no wonder so many people prefer CoD games…they’re easy. A casual gamer can pick of a CoD game, play MP for a few hours and have some marginal success. Whereas I’ve been in games in Brink with obvious CoD players (how I know they’re CoD players? They’re the idiots running into a group of enemies.) thinking they’re Rambo and within seconds of getting riddle with bullets lay Incap’d screaming how much “Brink sucks” before they eventually quit.

Those kinds of players know no age range. They’re so pigeon-holed into the CoD “run & gun” game style that they take to ALL FPS games like that. And in the games where run & gun get you nowhere, like Brink…they fail miserably at it. And because they fail at it, they pan the game, say it sucks, and flame it half to death. And no, I’m not saying CoD sucks. It is a good series. It’s just not my personal cup of tea. I like my FPS game to require me to plan out and think my kills before I engage, not run into a room and Leroy Jenkins everyone.

Objective based gameplay has been around since way before I started (PC) gaming most likely, but most people probably know it from W:ET and RTCW so new gameplay? not really.

(TONSCHUH) #5

… I’m 40 and I recon that Brink is the best shooter game I ever played … I can’t really tell why, but the game has something to keep you going …

It’s called SMART which is an acronym for Smooth Movement Accross Random Terrain.
With this, you can slide, vault, jump, climb over any obstacle

(PsYcHo) #7

I’m 17. And Brink is for me the best shooter in the last years  (after CoD4, which i played competitive)
But, its sad that mostly all other members in my clan stopped playing it :frowning:

That’s hardly fair. There were games before Brink, and it is highly likely people older than you played them.

You are never too old for anything. Paying taxes gets old, though.

What new ideas? . . .
And if anything, it’s more likely the other way around…younger players having
problems adapting to this kind of gameplay, too much "work"and no team mindset. But who knows.
I am the opposite of you, I can only play for and with a team, anything other (the things you mentioned) bores me to tears =)

So true. Brink is a challenge. Plain and simple. But hella fun.

I guess at 43 I’m the grandad of Brink.

@ Topic creator

Its quite the opposite. Older players actually know teamwork quite a lot more than modern kids who have played games like Cod, BF, etc.
People who have played W:ET, TF, RTCW are usually the better ones at teamwork.
Just by looking at competition players most have a history in those games.

Older players who played Quake games have usually excellent aim. Then they learned teamwork
and again like the previous games mentioned are also top players.

Growing up I always thought Adults played PC games, not young people. Like back in the early 90s, you had to make good money to afford computers that played top-graphics games. Kids were playing console games like Nintendo. And my friends’ dads were playing Unreal and Doom and most PC games. That’s what I always thought growing up. Now there are consoles and everyone plays games.

Call of Duty and Madden have crossed into mainstream entertainment. But, games to me were more of an alternative form of entertainment. Brink is like old school gaming when it was alternative and something that not “everybody” played. I mean, everybody do not like to play RPGs or Team-based or Simulation or Action Adventure or FPS games. So it is less about age, and more a reflection of a game being made for a target audience, rather than an age-group or mainstream causal gamers.

Rather than asking if folks are too old for Brink. A better question would be "Is a Team-based, FPS Objective Game right for me? Do I enjoy teamwork? Or will I get frustrated if I can’t focus on just killing fools?

I’m nearly 47, loved ETQW and love Brink

I’m 36 and I’ve been playing computer games pretty much since they existed (Zork on a Radioshack TRS 80). I think anyone who was brought up on computer games will never be too old to play them.
