Are You Happy With Cosmetics In DB?

(LCTR) #1

Currently, cosmetic effects in DB are tied to Loadout Cards - they are subject to RNG in a number of ways, from card rarity, inter-rarity cosmetic variation, etc.

Are you happy with this current system of cosmetic customisation in Dirty Bomb?

I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of days now, I’m interested to hear some user opinions on this topic

(Yes) #3

I don’t know what to vote. I’m fine with the current system and have spent plenty of money on it, but I would very much prefer no/less RNG.

I think the current system of purchasing cases is decent, but it is definitely room for improvement. I think the way they decided (splitting characters loots into separate cases) to decrease the RNG involved in purchasing cases is a step in the right direction.

They should just have loadouts in the cases and the shop, same as now. But have cosmetics be a seperate system. They can even keep the cobalt loadout cards for people who care. It wouldn’t make much of a difference to how it is now. Like I said, I barely notice the cosmetics anyways. Especially not on the enemy team.

I would happily buy some skins if they were something more than just recolored versions of the default model, more like the founders’ skins. So far I haven’t spent a dime on the game because there has never been anything worth buying.

(Ctrix) #7

Pretty much. The only thing that’s value for money are mercs and bronze loadouts from the shop. But what else would I spent my ingame currency on?

(DarkangelUK) #8

TF2 has proven that cosmetics > loadouts. SD need to remove skins from loadouts and have those be their driving force for purchases.

(SereneFlight) #9

I don’t really mind but I would mind less if cases were cheaper/ less RNG/ no RNG considering that usually there’s 2 or 3 cards we’re happy with and meanwhile we rather use the bronze card instead of cobalt because it has crappy augments.

Also wouldn’t mind if we could have permanent skins regardless what loadout card we’re using. Wouldn’t mind spending money on those… hmm… and I guess using useless cards could be used to craft a skin.

RNG for money is a stupid design choice. I could just as well go play in a casino and or play lottery, especially if i consider the chance that i do actually get the skin I want

  • 0.7*(1/17)*(1/9) = 0.00458 for Bronze
  • 0.15*(1/17)*(1/9) = 0.000980 for Silver
  • 0.1*(1/17)*(1/9) = 0.000654 for CW
  • 0.05*(1/17)*(1/9) = 0.000327 for Cobalt

So the chance of getting the Cobalt Skin i want is lower than getting my number right twice in a row on a Roulette Table.

They definitely need to change that, especially upon release many players will be scared by such a cash-shop system.

Oh and i would be ready to support this game with money anytime, as i’ve done for some other games already, but only if i get the guaranteed reward I want for the money i pay.

buy a bronze skin for 17.5 and be done with it? Open cases and trade up and get some random maybe good cards. In 4 years how many cards will you have?

(yusayu) #13

Wait is that an actual question?
Consider you do 2 packs of missions each day, play 8 rounds a day, drop 2 cases and get 150 creds per match.
On average a full mission pool gives you 2k credits, so you’d be making 5200 credits a day. Do this for 4 years and you’ll have 7592000 credits, which you could buy 7592 cases from.
From these cases you’d drop

  • 6074 Lead cards
  • 1138 Iron cards
  • 228 Bronze cards
  • 114 Silver Cards
  • 30 Gold Cards
  • and 8 Cobalt Cards

This means you would have each card 40x as Lead, 7x as Iron, 1-2x as Bronze, and less than once for all the other rarities.
Considering you buy all the cards for 17.5k you would have to play for about 836 days or 2.3 years.

Sorry, i was bored.

having to grind for cobalt over cobalt for the desired skin with a set loadout is pretty crap. got the cobalt loadout i want, just not the sexy fragment skin.

sound sgood to me man

Well, that’s total 31 Cobalts.

Nobody and I mean nobody is going to grind a game for blue colored cards. Like if you can enough about something like this you will spend $400 on cases.

After witnessing the clusterfuck that is starcitizen there is no doubt in my mind people will spend thousands on a videogame (even one that doesnt exist) .

I bought the starter pack for $30 AND $20 in cases not because I cared but because I thought the game was worth $50. I will enjoy randomly finding cards. The idea that you should have all the loadout cards you desire in a couple months is weird.

(LCTR) #19

I guess, for me, what stops me spending money is the chance I will still not have what I want afterwards.

Maybe that’s the sort of person I am: I don’t play the lottery, bet on sports, go to a casino, etc. I just don’t get enjoyment from it

So to get a CW Loadout card guaranteed I need to spend almost £28? Fine, I’m in.
But I can’t control the merc? Or the loadout?
What if it’s Phantom?
What if it’s Vassili?
What if it’s Rhino?
What if it’s Phantom with no-katana?!?!

I don’t want ANY of those options ^. In fact there are more bad outcomes than good if you look at the possible CW cards.

The fear of a bad outcome stops me spending money.
The idea of seeing a card I’ve spent money on and I’ll never use - that I’ll see every time I play the game - is worse than not having that card at all.

No amount of sales or limited edition promotions will get me to play the RNG game in its current state. System needs work if it wants my money, simple as that.

Edit: And just to be clear, whilst the Elite Case A and Elite Case B offers some reduction in RNG, it doesn’t resolve the entire issue with getting usable loadouts when all you really want is a skin.

Separate skins from loadouts or at least offer non-loadout specific skins and this problem is avoided entirely. I’ll happily buy an RNG skin box if it were going to give me a random weapon skin since the skin can potentially be used on multiple mercs. Yes, the potential is still there for getting a skin you don’t want, but that’s far more acceptable than how things are right now for me.
